Wasn't expecting main story relevant stuff in the sidequests. Was wondering how substantial they'd be since some of them are full voiced. Guess I should do them all when they show up.

There's no soft reset, is there? I had to close out of the game after ending a slow stall against the first boss due to the NPC reviving my party.

I'm having an excellent time so far. Nothing beats a good job system for getting me excited about an RPG. The demo had me feeling a little cold about the English VO, but I'm actually liking it more this time around- the main party all sound really excellent, especially Adelle, who I'm positively in love with.

Also, nose around for treasure by equipping the freelancer passive skill. There's a nice axe in one of the basement areas of the first dungeon (access stairs in top left of the ground floor).

Kk hard is getting really fun I reached a pretty big roadblock (demo area sand city). I have two choices right now tweak my jobs or unlock another job I've been putting off.

No idea.

If you want a tip against the first boss: battle items are very strong. A single 'Stone' will do hundreds of damage to both bosses.

Oh, I crushed them. I just had Seth as a Black Mage after running through the dungeon without fighting anything without a staff so he was totally incapable of dealing damage so I couldn't push past the heals.

Yup, there's lots of good loot. Itemization seems solid so far, which is a shocking rarity in RPGs.

Oh maybe everyone knows this already but JP is consistent so if you wanna grind up jobs chain battle against weak enemies that will give faster and more jp than trying to fight against enemies at your level.

I know everyone hates how this game looks, but I actually dig the characters and shiny enemies. I love the visual style

The ship exploration only working in sleep mode and not when the game turned off feels like a waste. I get they probably wanted to stop people from just changing the system clock to get rewards faster but that shouldn't really matter since it's a single player game anyway.

All right, should arrive on Monday or Tuesday. Looking forward to getting into it.

How is the sleep mode stuff? I remember enjoying the town building feature in the 3DS games. With Switch lacking something like StreetPass/SpotPass, do your Switch friends help out in any way?

Anyone knows if you can buy/farm monster treats somewhere?
probably in later countries. but at least from what i've seen from trying the treats on sahagins, i ended up with net positive on the treat amount

yeah a bit disappointed with how the timer works when i realized it earlier.

I am just an hour-ish in. Why is magic so weak? Even Elvis being a dark mage and hitting a monsters vulnerability seems weak as fuck.

You gather some items while you Switch in on sleep mode. The amount of which can increase if you are online too. It is explained pretty early in the game (1st sidequest).

The only thing I'm not liking about the player models has nothing to do with how they look, but how they animate, or lack thereof - often in dialogue cutscenes, they'll 'lip sync' for the first half of their spoken line and then just stand there with their mouths closed while their voice actors are still speaking.

So I know that the game is definitely the Final Fantasy IP put to good use, but most of the time that just shows in the music, jobs, and spells. But shit like "Ochu" still manages catches me off guard as that is a pure steal from D&D filtered through a very specific spelling decision made during the 1980s when making FF1.

Pretty much finished off the first town and quests. Bosses were surprisingly tough because I was way over leveled and they still gave me a hard time with the healer. Overall I like the side quests and loot as well as the enemy designs. This game has surpassed my expectations even though I was expecting good stuff and was already hyped for the game. I'll finish off for today but tomorrow I'm going to dig deeper in the jobs and stats.

I'm about 9 hours in now and the music keeps getting better. There is something so charming about this game. Definitely recommend playing in handheld. So far I'd rate it an 8.5/10

I'm really impressed by the overall presentation of the game as I play, just started chapter 1. The cutscenes are pretty well directed and they make use of the world map for some of them by zooming in which I didn't expect, and still looks good upclose. Even the more standard 2D plane with characters talking has a decent amount of unique animations for story stuff.

How's the difficulty in normal. I found the demo bosses a bit too difficult. Is normal in the full release a bit easier ?

The balance is really good where I'm at. Just beat a super hard job unlocking fight and again key was setting up another job properly to edge out against the enemy rotation. Maybe with the new job my other roadblock solves itself.
------------
Prefacing this with I might be wrong and the endgame might break really hard, but the sense I'm getting is that team asano are pretty much experts on balancing right now when it comes to their own rpg system. Octopath was the first game they really honed on it and it seems BD2 continues that.

BD1 and BS at the point where I'm at would already be breaking from certain setups. So far this feels tight.

Really liking what I've played so far. I was initially going to hold off on buying it since I have so many other RPGs to get through but these are the sorts of experiences I want to support day 1. Hopefully the sales of II will encourage SE to port over the first two games. I sold my copy of the first regrettably and never played Second.

I never played the demo and am about an hour into the game (docked).

I...like it so far, but the framerate or at least stuttering is seriously unfortunate. It happens simply moving around in the first town. The overworld seems noticeably worse. I guess I expected it to be a smooth experience. Bummer

Actual game seems cool so far. I hope they can patch performance because it needs it.

The only concern I have before I buy is character voices during battle and how they overlap / clutter the overall aural experience.

Does anyone know if battle voices have their own volume adjustment so that cutscenes aren't made stupidly quiet? It was one of my concerns from the beta, and I hope they made some adjustments since it made playing on a good speaker setup kind of... grating.

I think the English voice acting is seriously great. There's a lot of character and really well delivered lines. I get that it is super atypical for an RPG but I think people are selling it short.

The first beta or the second demo? They mostly massively revised combat voices based on the early demo's feedback.

i'm... really bad at b 'n' d lol
Some opponents are nigh impossible to beat until you built up your deck. Returning to the first city for more opponents to take cards from helped me for the special b'n'd quest in the casino.

Just reached chapter 2. I suspect Berserker will be a very useful class for farming up but I might be wrong.

Anyone know if performance is better on handheld Vs. docked? The stuttering and weird lag in menus while docked is really messing with me.

if it's better in handheld I'm willing to play it that way at this point??

Definitely a mixed bag visually. On one hand, the 3D stuff, like characters and their outfits, pop in docked.

But the 2d stuff, like the towns seriously pop in handheld, while the characters suffer. What to do, what to do?

Only 3 hours in but I'm loving the game so far. I feel like I'm already getting into this game more than I did the previous two.

Do jobs level a lot faster this time? I had the default jobs at level 6 in the prologue dungeon lol. Maybe it was always like that, but it felt fast.

I got a HP boosting bun from the tutorial exploration and used it on Elvis who had the weakest HP, expecting it to increase his max HP by like 10 or something and got like 265 max HP. Wat
lol same thing happened to me. Wasn't expecting it. Especially because I just equipped him with a Star Pendant too so all of a sudden he's walking around with my highest HP. Might put that on somebody else instead.

That's how the other Bravely games worked, the first 4-5 levels are pretty free in any class since you need that to get the basic skills of the job. After that the amount of JP needed to level each job becomes more of a commitment. If those first few levels weren't quick it would really hurt your ability to experiment with the job system.
