Funny to read some stuff here were most people are confussing artstyle with little budget or low quality character models.
This 2 games on the same system come to mind were they are lower quality character models (trails has been given as an example in this same thread), or MUCH lower character models on a game that SHOULD have a bigger budget (pokemon) with a more palatable artsyle for most peopel in this forum:
(this is the switch version, not the PC one that has bbeen posted)
Again, you can hate the artsyle (i personally dont, to each their own) but the work put into them is bigger than a ton of switch games out there that had very little criticism about it. Pokemon Sword/shield DO actually look like uprezed 3ds models, even with higher polycounts compared to THEIR older games, not other studios working on 3ds (the texturework is basically non existant here, with flat details even for importanrt characters everywhere), something that Bravely Default 2 clearly doesnt.
This shit about chibi/smaller characters = to less work/budget put into them needs to stop.
I really like the environmental artstyle and the cities/towns look stunning similar to the 3DS games.
Character models are alright, but not a big improvement over the 3DS games.
The voice acting....sounds kinda iffy?
Please send me your 3ds and bravelyy default game if it actually had character models with this polygonal count, better animations, high qiality textures and fur shading,
Like you dont like the artsyle fine, but the model quality is clearly visble from one to the other
And this last one is a commercial render, it doesnt even look that good in the game. Onlu the belt of the girl in the frist screenshot has alreay more texture work than the majority of the old models, and more polygon count than most of the body of any character in the original. Is night and day.
Even by choice, I think they're just terribly done. Games like Trials of Mana also had chibi-ish model but way better looking.
Trials is normal shonen design, not chibi. I think mkost of you are having a big problem with the faces, not the whole body. You can use FFIX as an actual chibi design example that is more platable to people's tastes. Again, the biggest difference between FFIX character renders (not ingame models) and these characters is the face.
