Considering we hadn't heard any news of the game in so long, only a 2 month delay out of 2020 is far earlier then I expected for it's release date. Looking forward to this game as I very much enjoyed the 2 3DS ones. Wonder if/when we'll get an updated demo.

I really like the environmental artstyle and the cities/towns look stunning similar to the 3DS games.

Character models are alright, but not a big improvement over the 3DS games.

The voice acting....sounds kinda iffy?

The changes they made pretty much address all of my issues. That's good.

Yeah I just can't get into this with those character models. The changes sound good though.

The changes video is neat. I did notice that the framerate was better in the retail footage, so hopefully any further hitches will be smoothed out by release, but it looks at least tolerable now.

Super excited, love the artstyle and I'm sure the game's going to try to mindfuck us a third time.

The difficulty of the demo was just too much for me to enjoy, so I'm glad to hear there will be options even though the demo was made more difficult on purpose. I love the art and music of this series. I was complaining about missing these relatively lower budget, older style games recently so this should be nice.

I would have preferred january, but...can't wait! changes compared to the demo already sound GREAT, and the game looks/sounds lovely

I just miss the old style. Why can't we control all characters before the turn begins?

How is the voice acting so bad? Octopath Traveler had solid voice direction. Nothing is as gripping here are Olberic or Cyrus. Nothing as charming as Alfyn or Tressa.

Not feeling it thus far.

Expected sadly, Covid hurts everything.

Still, this looks better than when it was initially announced and than in the last demo.

I figured it was being delayed. Looks like the time will help make the game much better though!

Damn, at least in Japan. Seems that you can get the soundtrack digitally for pre ordering?

twitter is broken for me so that tweet doesn't load. but checking official website, you'll get special arranged track download code (that expires after a year) if you buy digital ver by end of march or getting 1st print edition for physical. so far this only applies for jp ver since it's being published by sqex there

Man I love how the environments look in this game. Characters are less good, but still pretty alright, and voice acting is...oof, at least for some characters (overdressed villain man in particular did not sound great). Pretty excited for the game overall though, and it looks like they took the demo feedback to heart.

Funny, I thought the models and textures looked better than ever. I was really pleasantly surprised by the fabrics and monster skin surface details. I will *definitely* be playing with Japanese VO. Those English performances were just awful.

Disappointing that this being a Switch game still have the low budget presentation and chibi character models. The voice acting is also really bad and cheesy dialogue. I'd much rather SE go back to the drawing board and give this game a much higher budget and attention that it deserves.

Game is looking really good. The improvements are exactly what I wanted them to be. Dissapointed about the February date though. Was hoping to play this in December.

Ok I thought that looked really good

But

sorry to be annoying

I'm gonna be pissed if there's no Visual Works CGI but that looks like that's gonna be the case at this point

Chibi is a design choice not a power thing. SE has said Switch gives them a chance to explore AA medium budget games as well. The character art sucks but the environmental art is pretty good and it actually looks pretty polished from a presentation stand point. VA is a miss though I agree

Everything about this looks great, except for the battle speed. Default looks too slow, and double speed still makes info disappear too quickly? I appreciate the speed QOL but I don't think they get it quite right.

As expected, the Job outfit designs are pure S-Tier. VERY few of the Square games with Jobs have such a diverse range of designs between characters (notably FFX-2 and Bravely Second). All of them look so great.

I'm actively repelled by the artstyle chosen for the characters. That's some of the fugliest shit I've seen in a good while. A shame, because the actual game systems look fun. But I just can't with those characters.

I guess im one of the few ok with the characters and art. Happy to see some of the changes implemented...would have liked to play it this year but oh well.

Yeah it a bummer when games with job systems dont have a lot of visual difference between character using the same job. I remember in FF3 I noticed the Ninja job was the only one with any character differences.

Refia gets a whole new outfit. But the othet characters at least wore their headgear different which was nice.

Even by choice, I think they're just terribly done. Games like Trials of Mana also had chibi-ish model but way better looking.

I dunno if I would peg Trials of Mana as Chibi. It doesn't really have that super big head compared to the rest of the body proportions. It is decidedly cartoony though and I do think it looks much better than this model wise. ToM looks more like Dragon Quest model wise.

I think what bothers me here is it is too much of a mix. I posted a picture of the DS FF3 remake and despite being way lower detail I like the model proportions a lot more.

Anyway. What I was getting at was that the art is more about development goals that it is about hardware power.

Fair play, they addressed a lot of the issues in the demo. Graphically, it still looks poor, but I can look past that for good gameplay and story.

Would anyone happen to have a full translation of the changes detailed at 5:28 on the feedback video?

While character models look a bit so-so and the voice acting not being my cup of tea, this is still day one. I liked the tow previous games in the series, and the demo had good things in it. They seem to iron out the gameplay issues I had with the demo.

Each day that passes I can't believe how much Trials of Mana lucked out given their other lower budget efforts.

Secret of Mana was done so dirty, I wonder if they'll do another Remake with this engine since Trails of Mana overperformed

Personally I'm ok with the character models they feel weird only a handful of times but I get where people are coming from I also wanted them to look a little more human-sized and less chibi.

Funny to read some stuff here were most people are confussing artstyle with little budget or low quality character models.
This 2 games on the same system come to mind were they are lower quality character models (trails has been given as an example in this same thread), or MUCH lower character models on a game that SHOULD have a bigger budget (pokemon) with a more palatable artsyle for most peopel in this forum:
NSwitch_TrialsOfMana_05.jpg

(this is the switch version, not the PC one that has bbeen posted)
theres-a-new-pokemon-sword-and-shield-presentation-coming-next-week.jpg

Again, you can hate the artsyle (i personally dont, to each their own) but the work put into them is bigger than a ton of switch games out there that had very little criticism about it. Pokemon Sword/shield DO actually look like uprezed 3ds models, even with higher polycounts compared to THEIR older games, not other studios working on 3ds (the texturework is basically non existant here, with flat details even for importanrt characters everywhere), something that Bravely Default 2 clearly doesnt.
This shit about chibi/smaller characters = to less work/budget put into them needs to stop.

I really like the environmental artstyle and the cities/towns look stunning similar to the 3DS games.

Character models are alright, but not a big improvement over the 3DS games.

Please send me your 3ds and bravelyy default game if it actually had character models with this polygonal count, better animations, high qiality textures and fur shading,
Like you dont like the artsyle fine, but the model quality is clearly visble from one to the other

And this last one is a commercial render, it doesnt even look that good in the game. Onlu the belt of the girl in the frist screenshot has alreay more texture work than the majority of the old models, and more polygon count than most of the body of any character in the original. Is night and day.

Even by choice, I think they're just terribly done. Games like Trials of Mana also had chibi-ish model but way better looking.
Trials is normal shonen design, not chibi. I think mkost of you are having a big problem with the faces, not the whole body. You can use FFIX as an actual chibi design example that is more platable to people's tastes. Again, the biggest difference between FFIX character renders (not ingame models) and these characters is the face.

They've released an English version of the changes video. Well, to a given value of "English", it's the same video, and uses the Japanese version of the game, but that text as well as the other description text is in English.

I actually thought the trailer looked great and felt it was an improvement over the first one! The environments look so nice and clean <3

A little sad that it's missing a 2020 release but I guess by now it was kind of clear.

Also looks like they really took the feedback to heart and so far what I've read about the changes makes me feel fairly optimistic.
