It feels like it if it was definitely 2022, Nintendo would have said "2022" instead of "aiming for 2022"
The trailer just says 2022.

They said "aiming for 2022" because that's what they're doing. "Planned for 2022" or "intended for 2022" would be synonyms. It doesn't mean, like, "we want to prepare y'all because we kinda don't think we're going to hit it!"

People are reading waaaay too much into that one word. They announced BotW2 for 2022. It's as "definitely 2022" as any other game — meaning delays are of course possible, but we shouldn't act like they're probable just because someone said "aiming"

I'll go with 2023 for Metroid Prime 4, given both covid and the bullshit Texas has been going through. Plus it leaves a healthy distance between it and Dread and could position MP4 as the Switch's main event for 2023.

I forget the timeline of Prime 4's issues and Mercury Steam's prior games, but I do wonder if there was a very old intent to have both release nearby like Prime/Fusion did.

BotW2 will be a Switch 2 launch game, in 2022 or 2023 whenever that comes out. Metroid Prime 4 will be the year after that.

BoTW2: March 2022.
MP4: either 2024 or outright canceled.

Both need to hit 2022, in my opinion. That'll be approximately 5 years of development time on BotW2 and ~4 years of rebooted dev time for Prime 4. Even with COVID, that's a lot.

Schreir doubted BOTW 2 comes out in 2022 (speculation of course) so I'm going early 2023 on that one

I was really hopeful for late 2022 for prime 4 but the fact that botw2 didn't release in 2021 really hampered it for me

BotW2 early 2022 and MP4 I'm guessing was originally targeting sometime in 2022 and may still squeak in there but with Covid and shit probably not until 2023, assuming development is actually going well this time around.

Even though they rebooted development I doubt Nintendo is looking to spend 4+ years on top of the 2+ that was scrapped on this project given the moderate sales potential of the series. Retro likely restarted development on there end at least a little bit prior to the Jan 2019 reboot announcement so that would give them a solid 3+ years on it if they were targeting '22 which is not a short amount of time.

Zelda holiday 2022. Metroid Prime 4 has a good chance of being a cross gen game with whatever the next Switch is.

Really hope BotW 2 is March 2022 or holiday 2022 at the latest. If it gets delayed, which is honestly very possible since its Zelda, then I hope the game introduces a dramatic different gameplay or world.

BotW Early/Mid 2022.
MP4 sometime in 2024, with our first teaser next year.

I don't think people should be expecting BotW2 2023 at this stage. Nintendo is, like just about everybody else, is hesitant to commit hard to any date (other than Bethesda with that very specific Starfield date). Before every presentation they have a blurb that mentions that due to COVID-19, release dates are subject to change, and Aonuma's statement on 'aiming for 2022' is just reiterating that.

If it was a very questionable November/December 2022 release date, they probably wouldn't have said as much. However far along they are, it must be far enough that 2022 is doable if they keep pace.

If you're very pessimistic about Japan's situation with COVID-19, and you may be, then 2023 expectations are probably fair. I don't know enough about how the work culture is managing over there to say

BotW2 is absolutely next year. When exactly within the year is up in the air; certainly not March (even if they were targeting that date at some point, can't see it making that now). We'll have a clearer picture before the end of the year though.

Prime 4 is probably 2023; pre-pandemic I could've believed Late 2022 was possible but it's not feeling likely now.

Honestly, I think Zelda will come out in the first half of 2022. There is little reason to immediately presume that it is going to be a late 2022 release, and absolutely none to presume that it will be delayed to 2023.

When even was the last time Nintendo has delayed a game where they gave a target date for, even if it was only the year? On the contrary, the constant expectation from fans about delays for games such as Xenoblade 2 were proven wrong time and again.

2022: Zelda BotW 2
2023: Metroid Prime 4

I wouldn't be surprised if MP4 is crossgen with the Switch successor, even of a better version update of BotW 2 coming one year later like FF7R Intergrade

They already have a Pokemon game this November. If GameFreak really had nothing for November 2022 they would have delayed Legends Arceus to maximize sales.
No chance there will be another mainline Pokemon game in November 2022. DLC for Arceus for sure, but no way a full game

BOTW2 I'm pretty sure will be Holiday 2022. Before the pandemic I'm pretty sure they wanted it out for 2021.

Prime 4 ideally holiday 2023 I think it's far further ahead than we all think. I also believe that Next Level Games are probably now helping Retro along production since they produced Nintendo's most visually impressive game on the Switch to date, and are western based I'm confident they could lend a hand with development to hit a 2023 target.

I think they bring out Metroid Prime Trilogy for 2022 I think we can absolutely say that there's a high chance of a Metroid Prime 4 coming the year after.

BotW 2 holiday 2022, Prime 4 summer 2023... A 5ish year development for each game that probably would have been closer to 4 if not for covid.

zelda is probably targetting early 2022, so late 2022 it is
MP we have no footage, if it was 2022 or even 2023 i think we would see some of it by now

I'm almost 100% certain BOTW2 is 2023. I think Nintendo knows this, but they didn't want to piss us off with that trailer they showed last month so they lied and said 2022. I don't see it coming out before 2023.

Metroid Prime 4, I'm guessing 2024. It still seems super early for that game.

I think BotW is next year unless the pandemic has greatly affected the development. Metroid Prime 4 started over in January 2019 (or at least that's when they announced it) but I'll still say 2024 instead of 2023. Idk, just a gut feeling.

Yes. When it was announced. MP4 was announced 4 years ago. If they had something to show for it they would have

Oh I don't disagree, but I actually think it's going to be a fairly close re-reveal to release. Given the fact that they restarted to scratch, I really don't think they're going to show the game until the have something very substantial to show. I don't think that means the game is three years away still. It could be, of course, but it could also be next year if we're lucky.

End of 2022 for BotW 2, end of 2023 for Prime 4 (just in time for the Switch successor).

At this point I first want to see a single screenshot of Prime 4. I'm not convinced this game exists in anything resembling a playable state despite having been announced more than 4 years ago. Yes I know it had to be restarted but still. Show us anything! But I suspect they won't until at least Dread comes out. Maybe for December's Game Awards? Yeah right.

The cancellation speculation for MP4 is obnoxious. If Nintendo had any intention of canceling the game, they would have done so in January 2019 instead of choosing to sink a bunch more into development costs by restarting the project.

Don't really care or think it matters, but Prime 4 is years off at least. They're both games that need to be perfect on release, so they take as long as they take and I'm happy waiting because I'll get to enjoy them eventually. Doesn't really affect me what year they end up releasing. But honestly later is better if it means we get an upgraded switch to play them on lmao.
