Someone popular in gaming circles invited to a big gaming event. I'm shocked...

This forum is the only place that doesn't like Boogie. Hey, he's also meeting up with Cory Barlog too. Are we gonna attack Cory like you're criticizing Geoff?

1. Stop being a monster and using two spaces between sentences!
2. Plenty of people on Twitter do not like Boogie. Trying to paint ERA as irrational because they don't appreciate the type of milquetoast platitudes that Boogie expresses is silly.

So it is because he doesn't pick sides right?

not really, it's because hes racist, sexist and homophobic. He said things like "gays got their rights too early", "something good come from the holocaust", or "Charlotesville was Anita's fault". He's also tend to side with agressors in cases of sexism or racism like that MtG thing.

I love how everyone is turning on one of the most progressive and left leaning directors (a member of this forum) in the decade, because of a single associate that he may not be the truth about.

Christ all mighty.
Somebody who repeatedly gave problematic people awards and now calls somebody who has nazist views a friend and publicly invites him getting criticized is completely fair. Unless you're fine with something like that, I guess.

So it is because he doesn't pick sides right?

The issue is in part because he entertains the premise of that sort of nationally-implemented racism at face value. Even putting aside a massive backlog of individual instances on his social media, he's produced full-length videos in defense of people literally criticizing genetic mingling of the races, for the sake of genetic purity of the white race.

That is choosing a side. If someone is so "un-discerning" that they produce content to support those lobbying to change laws to create an ethno-state to enshrine white power over inferior races, I don't know what to tell you. This all happened, in no uncertain terms.

Maybe Geoff and Cory are as ignorant and stupid as average people even though they work in the games industry. Just a thought.

Hmm, audience members versus people inviting, awarding, tweeting about and being friendly towards him. They're so similar!

I'm serious.

Geoff is cordial to Boogie, who is clearly a fucking moron and too cowardly to take any stance on anything except being moronicly centrist by refusing to condemn easily condemned ideas and actions, so now Geoff is by association guilty of being friendly to centrism bordering on alt-rightism... so should viewers be held responsible for continuing to support an organization that is guilty by association?

You forgot Major Nelson and their friendship.

Doesn't Cory have an account here?

It's one thing if all he knows of Boogie is his gaming work, but its another entirely if he knows of Boogie's terrible hot takes and still chooses to be chummy with the dude.

He does but unsure when he last used it. Back when GoW was coming out he did come and hangout in the review thread. It was pretty cool.

He's not a guest of honor so I don't see the issue
That's a different topic. Please first explain how his Holocaust opinion is milquetoast bland.
(I don't know if he still holds the opinion that is brought up in the thread I linked to or if that was possibly a misrepresentation.)

I had no idea everyone hated this guy so much. I never liked his annoying character myself, but I thought people just didn't like how he never picked sides. What did he specifically do to garner this reaction here?

Blamed Wizard and diversity for a prominent player getting banned for aggressive sexual harassment

Said there was good things that came from the Holocaust

Partially blamed Anita Sarkeesian for Charlottesville

Said same sex marriage came too soon.

Said the best thing about JonTron coming out as a white Nationalist is folks can meet in the middle and learn from him.

Whines constantly about forced diversity and social agendas in games and games journalism.

Defended Gamergate to the point where in the old country he threatened to kill himself if we didn't start being nicer to gamergaters.

Truly peak centrism has been reached.

Not only is this stupid but it's REALLY telling how his idea of a far left figure is someone in the videogame industry (that should tell you all you need to know about his political knowledge) who isn't even a far left democrat let alone a socialist or antifa. Idiot, idiot, idiot. Woman makes videos on feminisn and sexualization of women in my male dominated industry = FAR LEEEEEEFT

It's not hard to denounce shitty people.

I denounce Boogie, I will not associate with him on any professional or individual level, his views are harmful and ignorant and do not reflect my own.

That was not difficult.

He was given sanction to attend the event in the form of an official invitation from the creator of the event, meaning Geoff Keighly thought it wise to reach out and make sure he was able to come despite Boogie's harmful views against women, gay marriage, etc.

Okay, but that doesn't address my actual question. You seem determined to not just refuse to support Boogie (which is totally fine) - but also refuse to support anyone who merely follows him on Twitter, or maintains a professional relationship with him. So what's your exact rule regarding these secondhand associations?

The guy some of y'all are defending would have faced actual repercussions in countries with actual hate speech laws, so stop pretending he's unproblematic. He'd probably be fined here in Germany for that holocaust shit.

yes because fat jokes are the same as racism, sexism and homophobia, boogie.

OOF

I mean even fat jokes should be out of the question unless its someone being self deprecating - then it's funny.

Same with all of those other categories. If you aren't a member of said group it really is the easiest and cheapest comedy, rarely funny.

Wow, I need to spend more time reading Era. I didn't realise we now hate Boogie and David Jaffe.

Is CliffyB still cool?

Boogie is a spineless toad who knows how to play to certain audiences to get praise from them for sharing their same small minded thoughts and opinions.

People have been turning a blind eye to Geoff and The Game Awards for far too long. It's a platform that has in some way celebrated as beacons of the industry Totalbiscuit, Boogie, Dr Disrespect and ninja despite their defence of a hate movement *2, racism and sexism respectively while never once expressing any sort of comment of regret or distancing.

Well, Geoff definitely saw this thread because it says he last visited about 4 mins ago.
Well good. It doesn't matter how popular he is, when you bring someone to your show who believes that Alex Jones deserves a platform just as much as CNN then you're killing the professionalism of your work. Geoff wants a professional awards show and bringing in people like Boogie undermine that.

There is criticism to be had about Boogie. He's said extremely problematic things. But's let's not exaggerate anymore than we need to. I see people in this thread acting like he murdered someone jfc.

Was wondering if I should watch this instead of grinding some more on Warframe tonight. Guess I'm going to be mining, fishing, hoverboarding and hunting for plushies tonight and just keeping an eye on the news via Kotaku and Era. No need to give my viewership to support this.

I, personally, find that to be quite milquetoast bland. It shows he is scared of conflict involving anyone. He doesn't want violence despite the fact that violence is unfortunately sometimes required, or just a possible outcome that people involved are aware of.

Anyways, Boogie would be a better person if he got off social media. He never will, unfortunately.

Anyone supporting boogie should be made aware of how shitty he is. They don't get a past for associating with shit.
