Both are essentially dessert beverages and both cost pretty much the same. So, which would you prefer?

For me, the answer is clearly milkshake. If Boba Tea was cheaper then sure I'd buy it a lot more. But, when you're about $5 a cup then I'll just go get a tasty milkshake. Also, you can dip fries in your milkshake. You can't do that with Boba Tea.

Coffee > Milkshake > Boba Tea

Not a fan of little gelatinous blobs in my beverage.

Milkshake. Listen, Boba Tea is cool and all, but I'm not fond of the balls themselves. I've got nothing to compete against whilst I slurp myself a nice vanilla milkshake.

This is one of the only places such a terrible poll wouldn't be a complete blowout. Milkshake.

I used to love milkshakes as a kid but they make me feel kinda sick to get through one these days.

Boba any day.
So many variations too. There's something for everybody, even those that don't like the pearls...

I grew up on milkshakes but boba is the truth.

honeydew with rainbow jelly
Taro with red beans
Coconut with lychee jelly

They're both super sugary drinks, but a milkshake is definitely more luxurious, special thing IMO. I feel like boba is much more of a casual treat. But maybe that's because my girlfriend and I would get boba pretty commonly when we'd visit the mall pre-COVID, whereas milkshakes were much less of a frequent thing despite me enjoying them more.

i wouldn't expect most ERA people to vote for bubble tea since i don't think it's as accessible in the western hemisphere. i know you can get it but i don't think there's as much variety/quality as you can get in asia.

Really depends on the flavor and quality for bubble tea. You could get a standard chocolate and it's basically milk with nesquik quality, and that tends to range in the $5 range.

I want to vote for bubble tea because it can definitely hit the spot but dang if I wouldn't go for a good milkshake every time.

Boba tea is generally available in more flavors and generally would have less calories than milkshakes. It's boba tea.

I feel like Milkshakes have the higher ceiling here.
I've had some great boba teas, but I've also had a few utterly incredible shakes.

Boba, but for everyone saying that you don't like the toppings, you can enjoy milk teas without any toppings at all, or getting salted/cheese foams as well, that mix in.

I've always thought that milkshakes are just too thick/too filling and could never finish one.

From a quick google seems to be that cream cheese like on carrot cake, which is awesome, so I can see it.

Initially pictured like that plastic orange spray cheese the US has and 🤢

Ohhhhh nonono lol The Happy Lemon global chain is a good example of it (milk tea w/foam in front row, tea w/foam in back row).

Those that are complaining about the "snot" or whatever, the tapioca balls.
The pearls are the most common default topping, but they are one of many many options.

You can have aloe, beans, popping balls, jelly, etc
Or no topping at all.
You can have milky or fresh tea. You can often choose how much ice or even sugar you want (one of my go-to teas is just fresh green tea with aloe, no pearls, no sugar, no ice - perfect for hot days).

Maybe people don't have as many options in the US or something. Boba places are all over in Australia, and they are amazing.

edit: oh yeah, the foam is awesome too

I'm Asian, and I enjoy Boba Tea, but I prefer milkshakes. Boba does provide greater variety though.
