They are fun. Only real problem with them in my opinion is that they are really campaign style games so you need to be prepared to play multiple games to really get the full experience.

Hey, welcome! I just started playing tabletop stuff last year and play mostly with my girlfriend. After we had played Mansions of Madness together, we decided to check out the Arkham Horror Card Game which, by title, may sound like a spin off or adjunct to the other Arkham games, but that's definitely not the case. It's THE game to play if you enjoy the spooky, thematic aspects of Mansions. You're building a character out of a set of cards and testing your deck against a campaign comprised of multiple scenarios. While Mansions has one-shot stories, Arkham has an ongoing narrative that responds to your choices, and scenario outcomes. For instance: killing a mobster in the casino in scenario 1 might make them come back for revenge in scenario 4. Anyway, it's become the game for us, and I think you guys would really enjoy going through it together! Try the Core Box and see if it's for you.My girlfriend and I tried our hands at a tabletop game for the first time over the weekend. Picked up mansion of madness second edition at a hobby/comics shop. We turned a 2 hour game into a solid 3 hours but we had a blast figuring it out! I believe we have both found a new hobby. Our second run was far smoother and we are definitely getting more familiar with the mechanics.
I have a few questions. This game has a really handy companion app and seems to be enjoyable for two people. Does anyone have any recommendations for similar games? We want to get used to the systems and the general flow before we try playing with friends and such. Horror, steampunk, post-apocalyptic and fantasy are the themes we are probably most interested in. Thanks for any input everyone!

Anyone got any ideas how to spot a dodgy copy of a game.
I'm having a clear out and found a sealed copy of Carcassonne Winter Edition in the cupboard, I've heard there were a few dodgy repos knocking around and before I attempt to sell it I wanted to make sure it was legit.
I love Dr. Strange. I'm playing him with a Leadership aspect and it's been a ton of fun.Played a couple of Doctor Strange games in Marvel Champions. From everything I read I was expecting him to be overpowered and I can confirm he indeed seems super strong. The invocation deck is just beastly, even with the starter card list he can take down villains in single rounds and his card draw seems pretty nuts.
Avalon hill has a Heroquest countdown page up now. I guess they are maybe working with Restoration Games? We'll know more on the 22nd.

Ya, it will be interesting to see. Heroquest was a lot of fun as a kid but it would need some serious updating design wise and the dungeon crawl is a very crowded market now. Also, someone on BGG noticed the ESRB logo, which I completely missed. So, it could be a companion game or app too.

How much?Anyone want to buy my deluxe version of Raccoon Tycoon? It's still in shrink. I also have metal coins to go with it.
The long wait on the kickstarter basically had reverse hype for me. I honestly just have no desire to play it and the box is just such a massive shelf hog.
I know what you mean. I have several games I'd like to get rid off but no takers.Wish it was easier to sell board games. Seems like you only have luck on Reddit if it is super rare.
I am considering donating them to a library.I know what you mean. I have several games I'd like to get rid off but no takers.
I've all but given up on selling them. Used to make some decent discretionary cash flipping games. These days I usually bring them to local stores swap and shop days if I really want to get it gone.
Pissed I passed on a sleeved and punched Machina Arcana for 15 bucks last time they did one. Silver lining is they have new stuff on KS soon but I doubt I'll ever see it that cheap again.
I have at least two local used game sales near me but they didn't happen because the pandemic so I didn't get to do my purge. I'm mostly just trying to get rid of stuff before more KS come in!I might just wait till Origins next year (if they can manage a comeback) and participate in a used game flea market to get rid of some games and thin out the collection.
I've been selling a lot of games to Noble knight games. They won't give you the top price, but they also don't pick and choose from what your offering. I've sold a bit through BGG market but for games that are unlikely to find a buyer they are a nice alternative.
I will write you all a guide to selling and trading on BGG, but you have to promise you're going to get over this phobia of shipping, unless you live somewhere with no post office for miles.
My SO went to the post office on Monday to buy postcard stamps and they said they were going to lunch. That's fine, it was 1p. She goes back at 4p (they close at 5p) and they were already closed. She returns Tuesday or Wednesday and sees people ahead of her just leaving from the line. Gets to the front and they said they can't sell her the stamps because the person who does it isn't working today and doesn't know when they will be back. Goes back Friday and finally buys regular stamps because there still was no one there.I will write you all a guide to selling and trading on BGG, but you have to promise you're going to get over this phobia of shipping, unless you live somewhere with no post office for miles.

There are a lot of issues with the post office these days and I live in a popular city. It is no longer as easy to use them these days.
My mom sent my SO a birthday card and she said it took along time to arrive but I honestly don't know how quantify how it is going in any other way. This post office has moved three times over the course of about 7 years. How is your day-to-day mail delivery going? There's definitely post offices that are worse than others.
My wife just leaves things (packages) in the mailbox and the mailman picks them up? We print labels/postage off our computer.
That works but we are moving so the precious boxes and lack of printer is an issue. I don't have many friends with a printer as well.
I almost sold games to them but boy did they give me bottom dollar on Rising Sun w/Daimyo box. $115 for that, Battle of Five Armies, City of Kings and three other games. I laughed hard.
The problem is the cost of shipping heavy and odd shape games. It kills the deal for both seller and buyer most of the time. Not always now, if you sell a high ticket item people will be happy to pay. But if you have a $50 game and you want 20, sometimes those are 20 just to ship them. Most people would rather spend the 50 to get it new than 40 to get it usedI will write you all a guide to selling and trading on BGG, but you have to promise you're going to get over this phobia of shipping, unless you live somewhere with no post office for miles.

Sell stuff in a big bundle to get the most value for shipping but the more there are the more it costs. It also depends on how far they go. I sold time stories and all expansions and it was only $30 (that included having ups store box them and bubble wrap them too) but it only went 1 or 2 states awayIs there a good option to ship many (heavy) games at once? Anyone know?
