Was there ever any word on how this game sold? I mean it seemed to be doing well just from the general activity around the internet, but I don't recall seeing any comments from the team/IGA.

So I am late to the party but absolutely loving this game right now. When I saw it during the campaign and then after release I always thought it looks crappy.
I still think parts of this game look crappy and tacky, but it also seems to know that it's not to take itself very serious.
5 hours in and just unlocked the first manipulative shard. I am slow and bad at this ;) Still loving.

Playing on PC. Would have loved a good Switch version tho :(

I know it's weird to rebalance a single player game, but I think it's a little too easy to be too strong. The directional shards, in particular are nuts.

Honestly, while it didn't look super great, I completely beat the game and loved the hell out of it on switch, and they are focusing on patching the switch version right now, so keep it in mind for the future when they finally get all the really awesome stretch goals in the game.

And double honestly, this might be controversial, but I sincerely wish they didn't capitulate to focusing on fixing the switch version, and just focused on getting the Stretchgoal stuff implemented, like the other playable characters and the roguelike mode.

It breaks my heart that I'll likely have to wait several more months, if not another year, to get the rest of the amazing content to come back to the game with, when I had very little issues with the switch version.

However, I understand there are more things wrong then just visuals, and I definitely respect fixing the load times between rooms and the occasional and very annoying crashes. I'm just more interested in the additional content.

I did not even know there is still content coming. That is awesome.
I need to look at the campaign then - maybe I should wait for the Switch version patch.

edit: Oh wow most of this stuff is not in, huh.

edit2: is curse of the moon good?

Yeah, there's a ton of stuff coming Lost release, but it's gonna take it's time. I wouldn't be surprised, and I'd honestly agree with this approach, if they decided to finish the content in sets, and release them (for free obviously, this isn't DLC, these were paid for) and make a marketing push to get more people picking it up post release.

Like, Bloodstained has Zangetsu now playable, and a mysterious Roguelike mode! Check it out on nearly any avalible systems now!

That would be a smart way to keep revenue up in a way that doesn't hurt the people who already bought it, while funding continued development. I might be a bit optimistic about it's effectiveness, but I'd like to think it could work with the right channels.

Are you saying this before or after applying the rebalance patch?
After. I progress very slowly because I don't have much time to play, so I got to experience most of the game (in fact, I'm probably not even that far now) with it applied.

Before the patch, I was easily one-shotting everything with Flame Cannon. After? Same. I guess maybe it did a couple points less--but still way too much--damage?

And then I got 8-bit Fireball.

So did anyone get tracking for their backer rewards or anything? I mentioned it on the bloodstained discord and gotten no response.

Yes. It was too easy... until it wasn't anymore. I was almost one shooting everything with True Arrow and tanking bosses til I fought Bloodless. Then the game really got hard when I reached the fire area and it's been really hard since then. I'm at the final boss right now and not sure how I'm going to beat them.

I really wish this game had a better difficulty curve.

Funny. Bloodless was also the boss that gave me the most problems. And like you, after Bloodless, the bosses became harder. At least, that's how I felt.

But, in general, I think that all the humanoid bosses are harder.

Bloodless was a check point where I didn't know if I missed/skipped something because I actually died on her. After her it was back to the normal face roll though. I may have done too much grinding for items and shards/upgrades. I don't even really know the attacks of any boss after her, even the optional bosses, since I could just tank and swing and get the kill with minimal involvement. My own fault so not complaining, just saying.

I caved and bought in on the Switch too. The patch can't be too far away (?) and it is my preferred way to play anyway.
I am not too far in on PC so replaying a bit won't be much of a hassle.

Got the bad ending earlier. It was kind of obvious. It's so easy to become OP in this game. I found a hidden area that bodied me, but I'll revisit later. Now to stumble around and try to find an area where a new ability will progress me... or look through an FAQ. I wasn't above doing that with SotN back in the day.

There's honestly a couple places where it does not become obvious how to progress, and there's no shame in asking for help or looking it up. Trust me, had to do it twice. Sometimes talking to Dominique, she'll give you a hint, but sometimes it's super vague even with the hint she gives you.

Does anyone actually play with the slow and hard hitting weapons? I like them more in theory but the faster the weapon the better it seems...

I used them at times, because I used anything with a technique to master it.

...but as a result I was mostly just using their techniques a lot and not using them naturally, so it's hard to speak to how good they were. I liked them more for bosses, since with faster weapons I tended to play a bit too dangerously and got hit a lot more. I guess greatswords ended up being what I liked most of that bunch? And maybe katana/swords for weapons in general? Hmm.

I'm abusing frame cancels with the heavier weapons and I find that they're good for clearing weaker enemies who have just enough hp to put them outside of a one-hit kill with the faster weapons. I also abuse the shortcut system to swap out heavy and weak weapons to punish enemy recovery frames. So yeah they can be very effective before you start to over level strength, but it's definitely not a play style that's for everyone.

Any news on the backer rewards? Last e-mail said they are still sending them out in August which is about to end...
I peeked in the Discord and Angel-Corlux posted a couple things in response to other people with the same question this morning:
I understand the desire for info, but we've always prioritized doing things right over doing things quick, whether it's for communcication, a patch or releasing the game itself. This next KS update is going to be slightly delayed because we don't want to just put out an update that says "we're working on things, more info to come later". We're working hard to wrap up all backer rewards in a concrete way, and then continuing to work on NSW to improve it for everyone.

we've been a little more quiet than usual just because we're hard at work, but we haven't gone anywhere

I'm hoping to release this update asap, just need to make sure everything is right first

I'd love to be a fly on the wall during NSW progress updates. I don't know enough about the details of UE4 on Switch and how they implemented it to even guess at what they're doing to improve things. I do hope they get it right though because this game could feel so nice on switch.

Was there an estimate on "the big patch" ?

I'm bit lost in the game now, I'm working if someone can point me in the right direction.
I just picked up the invert shard, not sure where to go now. The place I can think of is the tower on the left, but its covered in a narrow lane with spikes.

There are places you couldn't get to in the Towers of Twin Dragons that you can now.

Hey everyone, this month's Kickstarter update is slightly delayed, sorry about that. We're looking forward to publishing it next week instead, probably Thursday. Needless to say that we're still working on getting all physical backer rewards ready to ship out, but we need a little more time. Delays stink but I think everyone would agree that after waiting years for these items, better to do it right than quickly.

Thanks for everyone's patience!

Yeah I'm done waiting around for it. It's Fall BIG GAMING season, there's so much else to play.

Last year I bought Dead Cells in November 2018 on Switch when it launched, and it was a mess, I uninstalled it on Day one. I waited around and they finally patched it on February 2019 this year and I LOVED IT. One of my favorite games on Switch. But yeah, I'm glad I didn't wait around, forgot about it, then was pleantsantly surprised when I got to redownload it this year.

I finished once on PS4 Pro but I actually have it turned sideways so that exhaust heat isn't trapped inside the TV stand it sits in.

Yeah, it's super weird because regular enemies just die, and their projectiles will lose their hit boxes.

Meanwhile, I unloaded like twenty volleys of 9/9 8-bit Fireball (which does like 2000 damage per volley) on the twin dragons that have like 1000 HP, and they continued to take and do damage for several minutes.

Update news:

Hey, everyone.

As mentioned in the last update, the bulk of our development resources are still being put into the major Switch update. We don't have an ETA to share with you on the full revamp, but we are on track to deliver on our internal dates.

One of the things the team is doing now is going through the game and identifying visual effects that are slowing things down. Where possible, we have optimized or replaced effects with ones that aren't as impactful, but visually look the same.

Once the revamp is made public, you'll see effects that are more clear and won't drag down the framerate. We have a lot more of these kind of improvements in progress, with tons of work being done on input delay, stability, and more, but we felt that it was important to give you an idea of what's being worked on.

Xbox 1 Update 1.006 is looking to arrive by last week of September and will include:

  • IGA's Backpack DLC
  • Balance Update #1: Details Here
  • Overlord achievement fix
  • HDR Fix
  • Localization improvements
  • XB1-specific bug fixes
That's the stuff coming in the near future. We are still working on updates for all platforms, bugs, additional content, etc. We will provide updates to you as each element is closer to release.

As always, thanks for your support and particularly your patience while we get through this initial period of post-launch improvements before diving head first into additional content!

So I'm right near the end of the game now and I've reached that cool
Gambling creature you fight in the prequel game
and I'm wondering what the best way of tackling him is? I've got 80K of money on me, and I want to get rid of that for obvious reasons, but I also want the plat if possible and there's a money related trophy there. So question - do I need to possess 200K (I think?) in one go? If so what's the best way of grinding money?
Oh, and while performance on the Pro has been almost perfect for me bar the odd room or two, I gotta say this boss is bloody awful when he does the one attack with the Casino chips, absolutely tanks the frame rate. I'm more confused as to what is causing the drop more than anything...
