Why is this coming up now? Their 2018 earnings report was way back in February.

The OP is also misleading, though to be fair they are quoting some random persons tweet, which does not have sources we can verify.

I'll bring a source. Their 10-K filed with the SEC. It's the whole company Activision-Blizzard btw, not just Blizzard.

First of all, tax expense is not necessarily the same as tax paid. Anyway, look at page F-53. In 2018 they had domestic income of $432M and tax expense of ($228M). In 2017 they had domestic income of $185M and tax expense of $696M.

In the last two years they've had domestic income of $617M and Federal + State tax expenses of $479M, which represents a tax rate of 77.6%. Are we still outraged?

Why put facts together, the damage is done.

It's like the Patriots and spygate, nobody cares about facts; only outrage and disgust. Get with the times, lol

GUILTY!

Besides, if the big companies didn't save millions it would just give them more incentive to move overseas and the jobs overseas as a solution for the investors.

Oh I haven't.
I also haven't forgotten how people defend games being full of microtransaction becuse 'its the only way games companies can make money now'.

While they cut jobs;
And pay no taxes;
And get money back on the taxes they havent paid.

But NO games NEED to be full of microtransactions and LIIIIIVE SERVICES!
yup.

It's funny how every politician that wants these corporations to pay their fair share get attacked and ridiculed by most national press. Look at what's happened in the US and UK.

I despair at how easily people are manipulated.

It's probably a tax cut to prevent the company from leaving to Canada... cough
Seriously though, they create jobs so they get exempt? Or paid too much taxes already?

I think this is a cynical take that ignores just how long-standing and far-reaching the centrist and rightwing propaganda campaign against any leftist school of thought has been. Blood was spilled, dirty wars were fought, coups were funded all in the name of driving back the communist menace. For nearly a century communism, socialism, anarchism, and even socdems were demonized as the greatest threat to democracy and freedom on the globe.

You can't just write it off as people being easily manipulated when decade after decade an incomprehensible amount of effort has been expended to manipulate them.

Another good read

But remember, the more important thing in this world is to instead lose your minds over metacritic scores and video game sales.

Would be good right now for all the people who spent hours telling me the video game industry would be dead if it didn't have predatory loot boxes/gambling mechanics to chime in.

Just...give it a rest. You know how this place gets. Not everyone can read a 10-K or 10-Q, sure, but sometimes things are too good to check, like the above tweet.

This is why i love american companies,they dont even pay taxes in their home country, so why should they pay taxes in other countries?

For real, cant there be some sort of court ruling and punish all these tax evaders?

Personally I'm just happy that in M&A threads it seems to have finally caught on that non-Japanese companies are capable of hostile takeovers of Japanese firms.

As mentioned by Sheepinator ( here ), this tweet does not accurately paint a full picture of the situation presented.

While there most certainly room to discuss the tax system, the loopholes, and companies that may or may not abuse it; such a discussion should start with more than a tweet that takes a very narrow snapshot of filings.
