I forgot this was announced, so I'm stoked all over again.

I think it's looking about as good as you can reasonably expect for a remaster of a game we thought was lost in limbo.

Okay maybe I'm crazy but I feel like the changes look worse?
Its not just you, I'm not a fan of it either. It just looks ...off, kinda like when you see people take classic cartoons and make them 60fps. Also whatever filtering it is causes too much loss of detail in textures. Still its cool to see the game get re released, but I think I prefer the look of the original.

Uhhh...where are the textures in the enhanced version? It looks like the game version of one of those horrible Blu-ray transfers that denoises the shit out of the image. It has less detail than the original.

More curious how the ingame backgrounds and voxel characters are going to look remastered. Blade Runner had some pretty unorthodox technology for the time like volumetric lighting effects to make characters blend in more naturally with the pre-rendered backgrounds.

Have we seen any actual gameplay screens?

This trailer is obviously AI upscaled so I'm wondering if they'll apply the same to all the in-game assets.

I don't think those changes do the game any favor. The blurriness hide a lot of the low poly models without making the game look bad imho.
Maybe it'll look better when actually played.

Enhanced version looks AI upscaled and that's it. It looks straight up terrible at times because of the weird texturing [clothes of the shopkeeper, for instance].

Maybe because I'm watching on my phone, but I can't really tell the difference. Doesn't matter, mind; I'll likely be getting it regardless.

They definitely interlaced this and put it into some AI upscaling thing and called it a day.

It doesn't matter. The game is fantastic. Everyone should play it if they're a fan of point and click games or Blade Runner.

Not really a big fan of how it looks, it feels like they've lost a lot of detail in scaling it up and smoothing it over.

There's definitely a loss in details with some of the textures looking notably worse. Also the motion blur

It is what it is. It's cool the game is being released on consoles at all after the source code and the original assets were all lost

it is okay. it is a pity this is a bit of a low effort, as the game was pretty amazing and would have been awesome if they could have done a more thorough remake.

Yeah that loss of detail makes me hope there's a setting to just use the original FMVs. Wondering how they're gonna upscale the gameplay characters, but mostly I'm hoping it'll come with stability and UI improvements, because I was excited when the original was released in GOG but found it pretty tough to return to. I usually don't mind games being outdated, but this one always did things a little weird.

Looks good, bump in res will be nice for those playing on big screens. I bought the regular release on GOG and copied the files to my phone to play via ScummVM so I'm fine with the lower res on that screen. Played for a few hours on commutes but got stuck and walkthrough doesn't seem to help, may have to restart.

Yeah, this is not a flattering result. The stripes from the suit are just gone.

Ah, the early ambitious cinematic game. This one really shows how far we have come, eh?

Yeah that's just been shoved in an AI upscaler and it shows on some of those shots. Also the 60fps just looks bad because it is just interpolation, those cutscenes weren't meant to be smoothed out like this.

I'm not a big fan of those small upgrades of games.
I'm fine if they port it over to a console which didn't received this game yet & update the gfx.
But it seems that we reached a point that gfx isn't the focus anymore when it comes to games.

Yes i'm a blade runner fan , so this always good thing.

i'm not impressed. it looks a bit cleaner but still still quite rough and dated looking.

surely they can do better than this?

Looks good given the scope of the studio and the amount of money willing to pour into it.

Cheap upscaling looks fugly. I much prefer the pixelated original. The upscale subtracts more from the image than it ads. Resolution for the sake of it is meaningless to me when it basically ruins the image.

If this is the scope of their work I'll stick with the better looking original on GOG.

I've just wanted to replay this game for the longest time so I would've taken the original without upgrades. This could've been better but it still looks fine. Curious to see some gameplay now instead of the fmv.

Credit where it's due, the original code was lost wasn't it and I know the game didn't use a graphics card, was some really old school technique. Either way, I'm just happy it's been acknowledged and getting a release, can't wait to play it again. Can never have too much of a cyberpunk setting.

I was kind of "yeah, looks ok I guess" about this until I saw a screenshot comparison of a guy who was clearly wearing a pinstripe suit in the original but in the "enhanced" version just looks like he has a weird moire effect on his arms.

Looks okay, but there's some definitely some lost details on clothing, skin, etc.

It's interesting to compare this to the C&C Remaster where they used a similar technique on the FMVs. There, the FMVs originally had more detail than the downrezzed versions that got shipped with the game, and the training set probably contained a lot of video very similar to the FMVs as well. So the reconstructed 4k version looks mostly ok, because the original version of thing that being reconstructed originally contained information similar to the information that the machine learning algorithm is smuggling in via its training set.

With the BR remaster, what went into the final cutscenes is probably pretty close to all the information that existed in the models and textures to begin with, and the assets used were all bespoke so you can't really have a training set that matches it. So there's no information to smuggle in, really.

Plus, the original game was heavily marketed on the voxel rendering, so I feel comfortable saying that the "pixellated" look was a deliberate part of the aesthetic. Smoothing everything out to make the game look like that ReBoot animated series was never the intention. (Again, this isn't true of the C&C Remaster, where the pixellatedness of the FMV in the original was almost certainly just a technical limitation.)

So, I dunno. I think I'll just stick with the GoG version unless the remaster lets you swap to the original graphics and it adds some useful QoL (like removing the one scene in the entire game where you actually have to use your lousy gun, the mechanics for which really sucked).

Frame rate and upres are ok, but the rest looks like they used a "beautify" filter from from snapchat and cranked it to the max. The final results looks like one of those low budget 3D animated cartoons of the early 2000's. Not a big fan of this new look.

The new version completely lacks any kind of grit. It's just far too smooth, lacks detail, and looks awkward at 60fps.

I think I'll just grab the version on GOG and be happy with that.
