Former Vice President Joe Biden is expected to attend George Floyd's funeral in Houston, Texas, next week, an attorney for Floyd's family said.

Floyd family attorney Benjamin Crump said in an interview with political commentator Van Jones shared on Facebook that Biden is set to attend Floyd's funeral next Tuesday.

A public viewing for Floyd will be from noon to 6 p.m. local time on Monday at the Fountain of Praise church in Houston, USA Today reported. The funeral and burial will take place the following day.

A spokeswoman for the Fort Bend Memorial Planning Center confirmed to USA Today that Biden is set to attend the funeral. Biden's campaign did not immediately respond to The Hill's request for comment.

He will say he was invited to the funeral but declined because he had so much to do regarding the crisis.

Sorry for being out of the loop on this but it just occurred to me: has Trump mentioned George Floyd at all? Like even spoken his name?

Nice.

Biden called the Floyd family days before Trump, and had a warm conversation with them. Trump called them days later, because Trump did, and talked over the brother the whole time.

It'd send a message if Obama showed up.
Along with Bush, Clinton and heck, throw Carter in.

If nothing else, because if there's a club of Presidents and he's out, he's gonna be mad.
The fact that Biden will be there and he won't is already enough to gnaw at his craggled flesh. I feel like he'll still try to send Pence or Ivanka in his place. Hope they're denied.

While that would be great to see it might also be good to let Biden stand on his own this time.

It's so wild that Biden can go to this funeral and visit protest sites but not only would Trump not want to do these things, he also wouldn't dare do them. Nobody wants him to either. Lol. Biden just cleaning up.

I hope Trump says something, just so the family can retort and make it explicit he is not welcome. Why the fuck would he be. He wouldn't even be safe to show up unannounced like he did at the church. Mourners would try to lynch him. Anyway, it feels good seeing Biden show the family the respect they deserve right now and it is nice to know they have had a heartfelt conversation. Plus, after being worried about his strategy for a while, he seems to have landed on the perfect one: assume the posture of a president now and let the contrast speak for itself.

It doesn't need to be a circus and having a bunch of people who did nothing about the carcereal state but profit is gross.

Yup, and the media will eat up the storyline because Trump will keep raging about it so they'll keep showing Biden appearances and speeches just like all the networks did today which will further wind up Trump.

has he even apologized for the laws he put through that enabled mass incarcerations of black people?
even muttered a word about that?

I'm glad Biden is going, but I hope he's taking COVID precautions. Like, how is he going to even get to Houston safely?
