If Biden squanders his term, the U.S. is done when it slides back to the GOP.
It is already done. There is no reason to believe Biden cares about changing shit. We're riding this planet out until it burns.

The judiciary is lost for generations. I guess this is a handy excuse to have whenever the people get too aggressive in wanting healthcare. The Conservative SC overturning anything good is a good reason not to bother passing anything.

Basically what someone would do when they won't see the long term consequences of a conservative court. Hopefully this is just election talk, and he actually does something. But atm, I wont hold my breath.

Do people really expect or want Joe to say "Fuck the GOP?" .
People are still besides themselves with no candidate saying Defund the Police.

This all seems like obvious political posturing for me. Seems like he wants the "packing" questions to just stop.

The only thing that worries me is the 180 day window. That's too long. Cut it to 100 days and be done with it.

People should stop panicking for a second. This response is to 1) avoid the headline frenzy of "Biden says Democrats will pack the courts if elected!" just days before election day, and 2) to create a sense of apolitical legitimacy.

The judiciary's problems are rooted much deeper than just Trump's SCOTUS takeover, and Biden touches on how this commission would make recommendations beyond SCOTUS.

Seriously. It's like some people are in some alternate reality about how politics work. I don't get why they want him to just out right say some of these things.

People think you can shout ACB and other extreme things (which I believe are true myself, I'm black). The thing is saying shit like this is political suicide. Just the state we're in right now. You have to play the game to win, unfortunately

This is exactly the right thing to say when you are trying to win an election.

That will go over the head of everyone shitting on him in this thread, but you have to win the election before you can do anything.

No one likes Republicans, but if you don't have Republican votes for your bills, those are the easiest and most likely things to get auto-repealed day 1 of the next Republican President.

There are legal scholars on both sides that favor expanding or changing the courts in ways that are fair. Having a commission make recommendations that make sense, makes sense? You want him to just pop off hot takes based on forum posts? It's not even an executive branch decision, as far as I know, so I'm not sure why everyone is focused on what he would do.
Because people want to shit on literally every answer he gives that isn't full on going hellfire on the GOP.

Not just the Supreme Court. Honestly, it's easy to roll this commission up into the criminal justice reform.

It's a good answer for a stupid question.

Pretty much, court packing has like a 30% approval rating right now, why the fuck would he come out for it before the election, let SCOTUS make the ACA illegal and come out swinging

Its not a bad non answer. He would obviously control who is on that committee and therefore control what ideas are submitted. He is still not committing to what he plans to change. I think he will need to add judges either way in order to make reforms.

Yeah, the reality is that a Biden Presidency is looking more and more like a 'stop the bleeding for awhile' event, and nothing more.

Ah yeah, there it is. That's the sweet stuff.

Look, I'm an angry, Biden-hating socialist, and I basically never give him the benefit of the doubt, but this is extremely transparent.

Frankly there's a lot of solutions to the Supreme Court issue that aren't quite as blatantly partisan as court packing. If we can get the court to be consistently neutral, rather than just alternating "good court/bad court" every 10 years, I'll be happy.

Biden was never going to do what FDR couldn't, but the fact he's taking the situation seriously is a good sign. I honestly assumed he wouldn't do anything.
The courts are partisan by their nature and construction.

Good answer to a no-win question right before the election. I'm sure he'll have to repeat it a dozen time in the next two weeks though.

He's about to ride a blue wave into the WH and still feels like he needs to kiss GOP ass. Baffling.

Winning the election doesn't mean he's changed people (if he wins the election). Many people have been against Trump because he burned them in personal and specific ways.

It's not like a bunch of people woke up and said "huh, I'm really not okay with the dog-whistling today."

So yeah, he makes conservatives more comfortable voting for him because that's the kind of candidate he is.

Had Trump not fucked up with COVID, I'm not sure we'd be talking about a blue wave right now.

I can't believe Joe would say something aimed at not alienating a huge swath of squishy voters instead of placating a bunch of people who have their minds made up. Who's he got working for him, professionals?

180 days is way too long. If we get the trifecta, the best we can count on for sure is 2 years of Dem control. We shouldn't waste 1/4 of that waiting for a commission to think before we even start to act on the Court. What do they need 6 months for? It's not like Biden needs to be President to get smart people talking. Start now.

Weird how people who vote the Democrats don't want them to work together with the Republicans after the Republicans literally fucked them over with the two last Supreme Court Nominees. I don't get it either, the GOP is so trustworthy.

Sorry, I could have sworn that Donald Trump is the current president of the United States. Huh, must have been a dream.

Yea. In the debate thread, a bunch of people said "yikes" or yelled at him for not literally calling all cops bastards, or immediately saying he will prosecute all republicans or pack the court.

I just hope that the same people who are supporting him now are willing to admit they were wrong about this and will rise up and do whatever it takes to get change done when they realize he won't be packing the courts,.

More like, you need to play the game to win the election? Do you not get why Biden has gotten so many centrist and moderate votes?

We have nearly 50 years of Biden's political history to look over, and yet we are being constantly told he's playing 5D political chess, so don't believe what Biden is actually saying.

Oh how I would love to be that willfully naive or blind.

Yeah, no kidding lol. I mean, Biden has pretty much said that he's not packing the court anyway, just not explicitly because he knows the time isn't right to say it with the Barret stuff going on, but you still have people in very deep denial. I can't wait to see the spin when the election is over, if he wins and then explicitly says there will be no court packing, and people will still be stroking their chins, "I'm in awe at Biden, the master." I guess I understand, people want to cling to hope in a hopeless situation, but at some point you have to acknowledge reality.

Lol, you know they won't. If Biden wins, it'll just lead to more punching to the left and the same old right wing and moderate talking points until they need leftists/POC/Socialists/etc. for their next election.

Ah yes, the age old sentiment that ignoring the GOP and focusing soley on democratic talking points is going to win you the election really worked out for the democrats the last time.

To the people not happy with the answer, it obviously makes perfect sense to give repubs red meat to chew on for the next 2 weeks. Give them the ammunition they need to flood the airwaves till the election.

There's nothing wrong with this answer. There are certain things you cant say.

It already is done. You have 40% of the electorate that is not coming back which means you'll never get the numbers you need to make sweeping constitutional changes that are needed to save this country

You can tell who here knows how to win an election and who here thought chasing only 30% of the voters and hoping it would stick was strategically sound.

What, you mean the 2016 election where Dems got on their knees and kissed Regan's ass while appealing endlessly to all those good ol' GOP who they knew were really good people or the 2018 midterm that was largely successful for Dems in focusing primarily on healthcare?

He has been in politics for 48 years. Do you really think he is some visionary who is going to enact mass change.

All he knows is how to be a politician. He will offer a calmness after the last four years. I fear some of you are going to be disappointed in what he achieves

People really expecting him to make hardlined controversial commitments off of hypothetical questions two weeks before an election?

Y'all serious with this?

"yeah I'm gonna look into having some people look into it" fills me with so much confidence. Thank you Mr. President 🙏😭

Damn, and bipartisan too?? Oh thank god, here I thought beating Republicans meant we didn't have to get obstructed by them anymore. What a relief!

This is a great way to answer this question and get the press to stop asking him constantly about it for a yes or no answer.

Now he can say look at my plan for a commission on court reform.

Done.
