This isn't even a comparison. There was more creativity in the first 10 minutes of South Park than in the whole running time of The Simpsons.

South Park wins by default because it was actually funny, The Simpsons movie was unfunny trash just like the show has been since season 11.

I voted for the movie with Bart dick in it because it finally confirmed that those ads on the side of pornhub videos where he's fucking Lisa couldn't be real, even though the ad specifically said they were 100% real (and horny).

This rough for me to answer since South Park is a better film in a vacuum with stronger cohesion thematically and comedically IMO but Simpsons legit does a lot of strong character building and didn't play a small part in turning a whole generation into political nihilists. South Park also arguably had a smaller jump to make adaptation wise given how many of the shows most well liked episodes were zany adventures compared to Simpsons where most of the timeless episodes are very slice of life affairs.

When the South Park movie came out, it was a legit phenomenon. I vividly remember the crackdown on letting kids in to see the movie. When I was thirteen we all bought Wild Wild West tickets and successfully snuck in to South Park. The movie absolutely killed, the theater was legit wild with laughter.

South Park was a huge deal at the time and the movie hit with precision timing, much like the 1990 Ninja Turtles movie which also happened to be excellent. Blame Canada was nominated for an Oscar. Robin Williams performed it at the ceremony. Matt and Trey took LSD and dressed like Jennifer Lopez for the occasion:

With the Simpsons... I dunno. Spider-Pig became a meme, but kind of a weak and cringey one. The movie didn't have much cultural impact besides some thinkpieces and half-hearted efforts to check the show out again. Julie Kavner killed it in one amazing scene, but Harry Shearer is barely in the movie because he's so over it all.

Why did the Simpsons movie even need a Big Evil Bad Guy? It felt so simplistic and unlike the show. Even the underrated Flintstones movie has an interesting role reversal, with Fred getting the ill-earned promotion and Barney broke and bitter. The Simpsons just had Marge and Homer fight and threw a big dumb action scene at the end.

I recently watched Beavis and Butthead, it's still really good, but I'm not as high on it as I once was. It feels kinda phoned in, there's a lot of fanservicey Cornholio stuff. Sequences like the desert trip out scene are obviously amazing.

South Park movie was also the last time South Park had something really good to say. Once Matt and Trey got so big that they were untouchable, they immediately started weaving the most reprehensible aspects of their libertarian politics into the show, and it got worse and worse with every successive season.

That plot was taken from an actual episode of the classic era flintstones. Not the whole crook bandit stuff, but fred getting the promotion because barney switched their tests. The episode has fred becoming a tyrant boss, too.

I remember seeing it on cartoon network way back in the day after the movie and being like "ooooh, that's where the movie came from"

Even I'm not voting for The Simpsons Movie over South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut.
And that should speak volumes.

Frankly, I'm shocked The Simpsons Movie holds the edge in terms of Metacritic score.

Loved the Simpsons movie.

I found it a very well done return to form. Shit made me cry good. That scene with the videotape (among others) gets me every time.

I prefer humor and heart over just raunchy laughs.

Are people saying the Simpsons movie was bad? It had many great moments.

The Simpsons movie was just a really long episode.
A mediocre long episode.

South Park the movie did something with the movie format and made an actual movie which still holds up today and still gets laughs.

Definitely South Park for me. Only Austin Powers 2 comes close to the amount of laughs generated in the cinema for me and friends and everyone else there.

I don't hate the Simpsons movie though, it's grown on me.

Exactly. And not just any really long episode, it was a Marge/Homer relationship problems episode. Aka the worst episodes

This isn't even a contest, it's South Park. Simpsons was fairly disappointing, South Park was superb, especially the songs. "What would Brian Boitano do?" and "La Resistance" were particularly good.

South Park deserves a lot of shit, but I think one other thing maybe not brought up is making BLU a musical was INCREDIBLY risky at the time. It was a tonal shift from the show, and Disney had poisoned the well pretty thoroughly for movie musicals a few years prior (Newsies). Yet here's this R-rated animated comedy show, something that barely existed to begin with, and now they're going to make it a musical? That could've completely torpedoed the franchise. And they nailed those songs.

South Park by a mile
Simpsons movie is really front loaded. Everything after the first 30 minutes is terrible.

I first watched the Simpsons movie with extremely low expectations and thought it was sort ok. I tried to watch it again a year or two later and couldnt't even make it halfway through, it's trash. Bigger, Longer, and Uncut is a lot better and still watchable to this day.

I don't care for The Simpsons Movie at all but South Park is straight-up brilliant. I still find myself humming those songs from time to time.

Parker and Stone really know how to write a musical. I loved Book of Mormon too.

For what it is, I don't think the South Park movie had any flaws. Simpsons had a couple laughs fall flat, mostly 'mehs'

Someone mentioned in the comments that at 1:32, Cartman waits to join in with Stan and Kyle so he doesn't get shocked by the v-chip. Such a great movie.

I've probably only seen a couple episodes of South Park yet I think the movie is excellent and the soundtrack is superb.

Simpsons movie was ok. Honestly don't remember much about it but remember having my lowered expectations met. No way is it on the same level of quality as South Park:BL&U though.

Nothing about the Simpsons movie felt like a movie. If they had kept some of the older writers and made it in it's prime it probably would have been amazing. Instead, it just felt like a longer episode.

South Park on the other hand, say what you will, but their original seasons are timeless (much like Simpsons). Not nearly as hard on political commentary (although obviously it still exists) their original episodes were more about the kids school lives. When it came to the movie they pulled out all the stops with production quality and rolling all the villagers we've gotten to know in just the first couple seasons into one long epic. Trey and Matt had full control as they do today and got to show off their musical talents which down the road would even award them a Tony with the Book of Mormon.

My dad refused to take me >:(

But I probably wouldn't have taken my kid either. Great movie but way too raunchy for a 14-year-old, IMO. If he/she saw it on his/her own, I wouldn't mind.

I got kicked out of the theater even though I was 17. I didn't have a driver's license yet or any proof. And I had to wait it for it on VHS. I feel I was robbed from a great moment.
