Best/most recognizable Game Cover

Yeah I'd have to go it to GTAV overall, but the original Doom artwork is very iconic to me:

When you see the gold coloured boxes, you know it's Zelda. I wish Nintendo didn't went away with the golden boxarts for Zelda.
I had this wonderful gold edition of both the box and cart* for 'The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time':

Real talk though, it's Monster Hunter. You probably don't think it's Monster Hunter, but the thing about Monster Hunter is that not only did it had a distinctive way of framing its cover art, not only did just about every imitator frame its cover the same way, but every game that even wanted to appeal to the same audience tried to frame its cover the same way in order to get you to think of it as a Monster Hunter game. Phantasy Star is an older franchise, but a lot of the PSP entries were trying this too.

You know who he is, and the simple/striking colours make it stand out.
I'm 32. It's SMB3, I saw someone else post the proper picture on this thread. I know this cover but I wouldn't have thought of it. Never owned the game and that cover isn't so iconic to me tbh.
SMB3 is the optimal combination of being a very widely known game and having very little else look anything like it. It's also from an age when the box art was both hand in hand with every copy sold and a crucial aspect of promoting the game (and SMB3 had no shortage of promotion).
GTAV has more copies out there, but fewer would associate the game as strongly with the box art, and the art itself could easily be confused with other entries in the series.

This would be even a better cover if Mickey was there in the spot riku's in. The silhouette of the giant heart, the keyblade and a Mickey there would really make it extremely recognizable even if you squinted.
I feel like the GTA covers are also the best at this, since their style is original.
I would say the Final fantasy PAL covers:
The white background, the black "Final Fantasy" with that font exactly in the middle and the art behind them made all the covers automatically recognizable of what game they were.
I think you could have had an all yellow field with one red Tile in the middle and one blue one on top and I'd still have immediately recognized it.

No. He was used as bait to lure in kids browsing store shelves. I'd say it worked, for the most part.

The best one is open to interpretation, but the most recognizable ones are probably the covers for the mainline GTA games from III onward, and especially V's, due to the insane number of copies that game has moved (and will continue to for some time, thanks to the next-gen ports).

i was 7 when this released and wanted this game asap, i thought it looked super bad ass. the title theme is forever burned into my mind because it directly started playing after a game over :-)

The ad agency that did all the NES box art from this period were so good at iconic design work. I wish I could remember their name.
Yeah it's GTA for recognition, no contestI'd personally go for three. Since it started that style of boxart but they are all pretty iconic and instantly recognizable.

Because they used in the remake. For decades the true Final Fantasy covers were just the logo.
