Nothing. His answer was the best answer he could give. Follow police direction, know your rights and that the police need to be held accountable. The tweet, and the OP left out his entire answer because lets be honest, these kinda people have an agenda against the dude.

That is not even remotely what he's saying. His point is that, if you're black, all you can really do is your best to not make the encounter potentially aggressive as, unfortunately, cops are racist as fuck and to keep note of who the officer is so that, if necessary, you can report him or her

The premise of the question is shaky to begin with. It isn't about what the individual should do in such a situation, and I think Bernie was correct in shifting away from that.

I'm familiar with the definition. Understanding the police does not mean you need to respect it, on the contrary. Understand the way it works and the way it wields power, and use that knowledge for both your advantage and your safety. Respect doesn't come into it.
The whole answer is from a place of privilege and lack of understanding. Black folks know their rights the problem is those rights are conditional on the police respecting them. That is why soverign citizen shit works for white people, and black people get their lip busted in for holding a puppy

Cops suck. Cops have too much unchecked power and damn near no accountability. It sucks but don't risk your life. Take the officer's name and information politely so that if justice for POC is ever a realistic thing you can report said officer.

You're reaching for something that isn't there, OP. Talk about cherry picking a quote to make it sound tone-deaf and insensitive. The Bernie hate is extremely irrational. What is he saying exactly? He's saying that police should always be held accountable, but if you get pulled over, especially as a black man, you should try to remain calm, because the police have a history of murdering innocent black people that show acts of ""resisting arrest"" or whatever you want to call it. And basically what Bernie is saying, no, what he literally is saying, is that if you don't want to get shot in the back of the head, you should try to remain calm, try to identify the cop, and try to de-escalate as much as possible, give cops zero reasons to invoke ""self-defence"".
