I used to watch it too, and I believe he isn't a Muslim anymore and hasn't been for years (I recall him saying he is an atheist, I may be wrong).

I stopped following TYT a few years back, the way they debated politics was almost a leftist version of Fox News, no real discussion, onlycult-like favouritism, basically an echo chamber.

There are criticisms to be levied at tyt, but calling them fox news muddies the water of what fox news is. You can argue tyt is progressive homers, but it's not propaganda like fox.

And yes, cenk is an atheist

you mean the comments he defended speaking with the LATimes yesterday?

those views he doesnt beleive but still defends?

I don't think he was defending what they said, just that the whole program shouldn't have got canceled over it. He literally said his position is he is not the thought police of what people say in private.

Heres what he told Vox today:

Uygur told Vox he was not actually defending the team's scouting report, only people's right to say things in private. He also said he has disavowed the blog posts, which he wrote before he made a transition from Republican to progressive. In general, he said, the criticisms of his comments "are smears against me done to distract from the issues."

That's what happens when a national figure endorses a YouTuber with so much baggage he could travel the world and never need to wash his clothes

I am legitimately curious what happens in this race. By being in the race the news is compelled to cover Cenk. Let's say a debate happens. How does that look?

My guess is that the whole discussion will be dominated by the baggage. Making the whole exercise rather futile.

I think that's fair given the backlash.
The amount of backlash is actually unbelievable. Mainstream news for a local election is kinda crazy.

mainstream news of a seat held by a congresswomen who had to publically resign because of revenge porn.

and now a millionaire carpetbagger who owns a media organization is trying to run and got the endorsement of one of the major candidates running for President.

Are you really pretending this is just a local race and that it is the first time a aHouse race got national attention?

I'm not pretending anything. It's getting more attention that I would have expected. That's all.

The attempt to frame him as a millionaire is meh, given his policy positions.

Carpet bagging is also meh. If he represents the contituents whatever.

Now, owner of media network... Now that's definitely interesting .

And of course given his past and or present views people have a right to not support him.

I am curious how this plays out.

My guess is he'll suck, but potentially split the Dem vote and put a risk of two GOP folks emerging from the jungle primary

He's already yelling at his Dem opponent to debate him.

this is 'it's fine to say the n-word in private if no one can hear you and that's not racist'

He literally does not live there right now or know the area.

are you going to claim he as of right now in his candidacy is able to represent that district?

has he even stepped foot in it onve as a candidate ?

I am aware he doesn't live there. I think with some basic polling , doing what you think is right for constituents, and what not you can do a fine job. From my understanding he doesn't live very far.

Probably better than someone who lives there but represents donors and monied interests instead of constituents. Which is basically most of the Democratic party and all of the Republican party.

Have you every privately thought someone was hot? Are you a sexist if you write down that thought in a diary, or text your friend that you think that one girl from class is really cute? I can be a reductionist too, the point he was making is this soccer team got wokescolded out of existence because they made a stupid list and it leaked. Yeah, they shouldn't have made the list, but the whole program shouldn't have been canceled over it.

Now I definitely am a raciest if I do those same activities I described above, but replace cute girls with raciest slurs. These are not the same...

Also, this whole carpet bagger thing is the dumbest attack of all time, he lives an hour and a half away, do you honestly think he is so culturally different that he can't possible represent these people?

Can you elaborate on why you would label it sexist?
I have my own perspective on the matter, I'm just curious if we agree.
I had to brush myself up on the story but it's just crass and lame behavior on the part of the men's team. A spreadsheet list of women, including highschool seniors interested in the school, description of their bodies and ideal sex positions? Why? It's bizarre behavior, is the men's team 11 years old? On top of that the setting is college sports- sexually entitled athletes in an environment where sexual violence is common.

You can have mature sexual conversations with your boys but this shit was creepy and lame. I think some mens teams even continued doing the spreadsheets after the big controversy. Once that shit leaked I'm sure it was traumatic for some of the women too. It's fuckboi behavior.

Writing down that you think a girl is hot in a diary is way different than making a spreadsheet where you rank multiple girls on how hot you think they are, and share it with the entire team. it's not private if you're sharing it with the entire soccer team.

This basically means you're stating that really Sanders stands by his endorsement.
I think he does but Cenk realized the controversy and didn't want to hurt Bernie's chances for his own gain. Just speculation but that seems to be the truth here. I don't stand by his previous statements but he has sure as hell done a lot for a lot of individuals and for fighting corruption.

All of Cenk's baggage is all Cenk's fault. That seems indisputable. It comes down to whether or not you choose to forgive him (for me that's a hard hole to climb out of). My biggest issue with his candidacy in the first place is that he runs a media outlet. That's a massive conflict that directly ties into his baggage. Yes, oppo research is dirty, but dude literally runs a media outlet that he can wield. And again, there's only baggage because he really said those things.

That being said, Mendoza Ferrer's intentions are totally transparent if you visit her Twitter profile today. It's almost entirely retweets about how this is all about Sanders. Constantly using Cenk's name but not really attacking him; opting to use him to bludgeon Sanders with. She's also liking conspiracy tweets about how the Sanders endorsement proves that Sanders is trying to build a society where all his women detractors are harassed and doxed for disagreeing with him, or that Sanders and his movement are a bigger threat to women than Trump supporters.

I'm going to spoil this for you, Bernie doesn't want to cancel Cenk because they align on 99 percent of the issues, he's apologized for all the crazy weird edgy stuff he's done in the past, and Bernie would love to have him in the house. He pulled his endorsement because Cenk rejected all endorsements, but Bernie definitely still likes him.

It seems like you're a progressive that's more interested in keeping sports teams intact than confronting toxic masculinity and sexual harassment and actually trying to stamp it out

Interesting

"Wokescolded" is some real SJW type shit

Funny y'all are stanning for a dude with a media company that spreads conspiracies, talks shit about women and when he's confronted with his past on a national stage for the first time he instead chooses to lash out and make himself a victim

Cenk ain't shit

No, I'm not arguing in bad faith, I don't actually care about the sports team. What I care about is how the left will go to huge lengths to demonize a clearly progressive person over something they said in the past.

Maybe if that progressive person apologized again when confronted with his past instead of painting all of his critics as part of the neoliberal right wing big media corporate buzzword empire I would start to agree with you.

I think that's a reasonable read of the situation... And one damning of Sanders, as it again showcases him putting loyalty to his person above any other consideration.

Also imagine you're in CA-25 and you're not "extremely online". Your first exposure to this guy is someone who lives outside of your district coming to replace someone who was ousted for revenge porn and there are videos and articles from him saying some heinous shit and you're not aware of the stuff he's actually done outside of that.

What would your reaction be if you googled him to make your own opinion and you see he's blaming this on everyone else except him. It's not a good look.

And that's the heart of the issue, even if you have a Cenk body pillow you have to admit he's a bad political candidate for this race and Bernie endorsing him was stupid.

This is literally the point. This is what happened to Labour in the U.K. besides the Brexit stuff, endless smears meant to distract and mislead the people that don't know any better.

This "actually Bernie is still secretly endorsing Cenk in his heart" thing is some weird fanfic from people way more invested in both people than is healthy.

If Bernie wanted to make it clear that he didn't think Cenk's comments were bad he could have left out the part where he said he understood his supporters' legitimate concerns. He didn't, because he wanted to make it clear that he agrees that Cenk is bad.

Not complicated!

It's not a smear when it's their own fucking words! The "Its a SMEAR" response to actual, legitimate electoral issues is the online equivalent of putting your fingers in your ears and going "nuh uh nuh uh"

... that's not what I said. I said Cenk's way of handling this is absurdly terrible and one of the many reasons he's a bad candidate. Him smearing all of his critics is pretty disgusting.

This is the definition of smear, this is being used to say Cenk hates women and will obviously vote against women interest when this is clearly a lie. The genocide one is also a classic smear against him, he does not believe any of this any more. Yeah, he has a really edgy past, but I'm will to take him at his word, his actions as a progressive, and all the women calling this a smear, that I have deep respect for, at their word. Cenk is CLEARLY an ally for the left.

You should go watch the interview he had with Sam Seder today.

Cenk rightfully shouldn't run for this seat and the bad faith people are having fun with this also. Those in power don't care about Cenk's misogyny, he's a pain in their ass period. Cenk had an MSNBC show last decade and was canned for criticizing Democrats and Washington.

Basically this. TYT should've run Ana Kasparian instead because at least she doesn't have decades of baggage for Neo Lib ghouls to cynically weaponize in defence of the status quo.

"Caring about someone making misogynistic and racist comments is cynically weaponizing words the person actually said, and defended!" I hate it when people use things I've done and said, and defended saying to show that I might not be the best choice for a house seat. They should only look at the words and actions I've done that I want them to look at, you know, the ones that make me look good, and ignore all that problematic stuff.

So you think it's worth throwing away the fight for M4A, criminal justice reform, green new deal, ending financial corruption in politics, ending the wars etc. all for some stupid comments made in the past? Seems self defeating to me, unless you don't really care about those things.

Why on earth is that worthy of a parody? You deliberately chose to only say women's rights because you know for a fact that Cenk is not beholden to financial interests, while Smith is.

Cenk is a financial interest. "He's rich so he doesn't have to listen to donors" is literally Trump's argument.
