Is the problem supposed to be that Bernie is signal boosting Rogan by making this ad? Surely it's the other way around?

No doubt there is some cross over in the vein diagram of their supporters but I'd be shocked if all 10mil of Bernie's twitter followers are Rogan fans. Going on the show is one thing but tweeting out this endorsement ad is signal boosting.

Kind of a bizarre move to do this during the Dem primary, it would have made more sense during the general. Joe is a moron who should be kept at arms' length outside of that.

Other than that, only Nixon could go to China.

My assumption is that they want to attract non voters that will be same-day registers for Iowa and take it from there, hoping the college-educated people don't hold a grudge for this if they win. Kind of a super risky move imo and probably not even worth the moral compromise it represents.

Regardless of whether or not Bernie had reposted the clip (which, honestly, he probably shouldn't have since I think it was doing work on its own), even Rogan just saying he'll vote for Bernie brings so many more potential voters to him than if he had, say, been endorsed by the NYT (especially in the context of what they recently did). I'm really not a fan of Rogan and think he sucks ass, but Bernie's appearance on his podcast a few months back also seems to have led a bunch of Rogan's listeners to look at him more positively, at least based on a lot of the comments.

So transphobic, she was the first SoS to let trans people change their gender markers.
It's not the point of this thread but she is a TERF and has been open about it

hmm, I'm surprised about that actually. with that big of a difference I'd agree. is Joe Rogan really active on Twitter?

Oh is she running too?

neither are running

Just curious, what is your intention with that? Simple curiosity or essentially learning their typical arguments in order to debunk them?

Much like here, I generally veer away from Political threads, other than a cursory glance. Trump fans are... something else.

Here like reading discussions and news articles etc. Lotta enlightened reads here.

There I go for laughs mostly, cause they are big into memes etc. Laugh out loud at stuff there frequently. But it's a bodybuilding forum, so I originally went there for health info (which I got in abundance, losing 70 pounds etc.)

This frightens me more than anything else in this thread. It's not like the people that listen to Rogan don't have the time to do this research themselves. It's incredibly disappointing that people will only rethink things if one of these bigger "content creators" advises them to do so. Are we going to get to a point where everyone just votes the way the most followed personalities on various websites do?!

That's an interesting intersection and good for you for losing the weight!

Politically this makes sense. Joe Rogan isn't really seen as a toxic figure for most of the general public. The world isn't ResetERA.

His politics also have no bearing on Bernie's policies or rhetoric. He liked Bernie last election, too; now the campaign is making use of it.

It's all very silly, honestly.

I ain't personally worrying until Bernie starts changing his policies. I can see why people have issues with Bernie's campaign making an ad out of this, Rogan has said some undeniably heinous shit and maybe it didn't need to get boosted by Bernie because those that listen Rogan have already heard the endorsement.

So at this point though, Streisand effect is in full force and Rogan is getting even more free advertising and this conversation (throughout the internet) has probably led to even more people checking out Rogan's shit out of curiosity. What do y'all think the Sanders campaign should do? Take it down, thus adding another cycle of discussion and giving Rogan even more attention? Or should he just ignore it and do better next time? Or something else?

It's like a newspaper endorsement, but for a time where nobody reads newspapers anymore.

It's kind of just the way the world works in an age of influencers. Not saying it's particularly great, but people like Rogan have a huge amount of pull. Definitely more than most newspapers or politicians when it comes to "endorsements."

Listen to every joe episode and spend most of my internet time on here and it's always hilarious how wrong you guys are about Rogan but idc enjoy what you like. It's just incredibly obvious it's the non listeners barking loudest

super glad he put his weight behind Bernie, yet hilariously y'all still complain lmao

I don't think it's quite the same thing although I do understand the analogy. Newspapers are local in nature, they should concern themselves with how a given politician would affect their communities. I can't really understand what Rogan concerns himself with, but it's certainly not the betterment of a community, at least in my limited experience with him.

People have posted videos of him doing the things they're accusing him of doing. What are people wrong about exactly?

The confusion is at the hostile defense of why someone would take issue with Bernie Sanders retweeting a known transphobe.

It really isn't hard to see why some won't like this.

I don't really see many confused at why some would have a problem with it though. If anything, it's mostly folks saying "what the hell, the more votes the better." Take issue with that sure, but it's not the same as what you're implying, imo.

I do find it interesting that people claiming to not listen to him also seem to be experts on his thoughts and beliefs. Almost like they following the opinion of what influencer they choose to believe, told them to believe

Definitely agree about that last part, but I think you can say all of this about an outlet like the New York Times as well.

Hillary sucks too though.
For sure. I'm gonna be honest, I only posted that because I got annoyed seeing some posters who were head over heels defending Hillary the other day repeatedly say "known transphobe Joe Rogan" in this thread. They are both bad and I don't think people should listen to either of them.

lets not act like older generations were critical thinkers.

they voted Trump.

In your country yes. The entire world was not raised that way in previous generations. I grew up in the country that was first to give women the vote, first female prime minister, first openly trans member of parliament and we were taught to be critical thinkers.

I can only speak for myself, but I've watched/listened to five episodes of his podcast and I found it disappointing how he didn't press people to back up their opinions. He just let them say whatever they wanted to say without challenging it. I've argued with a friend of mine who disagrees with me on this, but I think anyone has a responsibility to their audience to challenge people's beliefs when they come on a program one is hosting. Especially in the case of the people that Rogan has had on, which in some cases, are outright white supremacists, or on the fringe.

To add to that, the evidence posted here and in previous threads is pretty damning. It'd be one thing if Rogan walked it back and said that he said those things, they were hurtful and he doesn't believe them anymore and that he's sorry. I haven't seen that from him though.

It's hard to rectify this post with the previous one I quoted. How can you be so approving and proud of critical thinkers and progressivism and be weakly defending someone like Rogan, who is the very antithesis of such?

He's still shitting himself with his new all meat diet, because he "feels like he has more energy", and you claim he's open about being wrong?!
Him doing things that aren't scientifically proven doesn't mean he isn't open to being wrong. If anything him changing diets every so often (I never knew he was on all meat diet) proves he is the opposite. Even if it's for the worse as in this particular case. He is open to the worst of claims suggestions as well as some good. It's why a lot of people hate him to begin with. He's open to "both sides". Although despite some of his bigoted views he's much more left leaning than people will admit on here.

Only because we have a generation who were not raised to be critical thinkers and allow influencers to sway there personal thoughts.
People have been easily influenced by media for decades. Stuff like the Nixon-Kennedy debates, the stark contrast on how Americans viewed the Vietnnam War vs previous wars like Korea due to broadcast footage, and the influence of radio on how politicians addressed the public to better appeal to the "common man" show how powerful media has been. And it's a world wide thing, there's a reason politics follows so many advertising and pop culture trends.

In this thread: People completely missing the amazing news that Rogan is encouraging his historically right-lite audience to vote for an open socialist, and acting like Bernie should turn down the support of someone with an audience of millions who is genuinely engaging with him as a candidate.

Meanwhile, Bernie's platform is unchanged and is fucking incredible.

I don't like Rogan whatsoever and he has a lot to answer for but many, many takes have been lukewarm here. If Hillary had gotten Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity to endorse her you know she'd be tweeting that shit.

In the end, votes are votes. Unless Bernie is literally altering his platform to cater to undesirables, this won't hurt him.

There's a little bit of leeway between turning it down and making an ad of it.

I actually believe in free healthcare and free college tuition and/or vocational training. I just hate the tendency to disregard Bernie's continual gaffes in putting his economic policies above issues of race and gender.
I guess that's kind of the heart of it. Not everyone sees these as "gaffes" -- particularly if they are effective in a political context. And not everyone sees these moments as somehow supplanting issues of race and gender. He is not compromising his policies to score votes with Rogen's audience, he's not becoming a TERF or TERF-like; the transgression, instead, is something more subliminal in moments like this, a refusal to condemn for fear of alienating which some see as tacit endorsement. He wants that big tent, which would be particularly beneficial in a general election.

It's disappointing to me, though. And that Warren also wanted to get on the show sucks, too. Not one of them are willing to tell a guy like this to fuck off if they have an opportunity to extend their base.

And I've said it a million times, but these threads are increasingly predictable and I wonder when we're going to tire of the same debates with the same people. We all rationalize, filter and prioritize, depending on whether or not we already favour or dislike a candidate. Some people just really like the guy's policies, his decades of meaningful and consistent progressive action (or maybe some dgaf and just like the free tuition), and are always ready to downplay and accept moments like this. Others have long-since soured on Sanders, perhaps in 2016 when he ran against Queen or have just tired of his refusal/inability to prioritize race/gender when he communicates, and will frame most things as unforgivable or more extreme than they are.

There's going to be a contingent here that, depending on who the nominee ultimately is, will not be able to help themselves from taking potshots while leaving Trump alone. I genuinely think that will be the case whoever the nominee is, though Warren probably stands the best chance of mitigating ResetEra salt.

Ironically, even in that video where he's praising Bernie you can tell he's also subtly throwing shade at movements like #metoo. The fuck can't help himself.
