Yes, that's what I think would be the most likely scenario, but I'd like this to be confirmed. But I don't think we will see any or many 4k120fps games.
I agree that it will be very rare and probably non existent in a few years but this year's COD will supposedly run at 4k/120 and I expect the odd indie title to as well.

This would be great news. I'm still on a 1080p TV and want to wait for a decent 4K TV to be more affordable before I buy one. I do however have a 1440p monitor at my desk, which coincidentally I wanted to play at anyways since the TV is in front of my bed. I hate how lethargic I get when I lounge on the bed playing games.

Edit: I really shouldn't get my hopes up.

By the way, did Sony ever give a reason why there isn't 1440p support on the Pro? Lots of games render at 1440p before being upscaled to 4K anyways, right?

If you're interested in high frame rates, you may want to consider a good QHD gaming monitor, as 1440p will be supported by the PS5 with a higher likelihood of 120Hz in that resolution.

The EW3280U acts so well as a console and PC hub due to having dual HDMI 2.0 (you won't really need HDMI 2.1 to enjoy PS5)

I wouldn't look at this page as proof that it's going to support 1440p natively. The way this whole article reads looks to be a translation. Plus they could just as easily be referring to render resolution. These monitors that they say are for the PS5 don't say anything about supporting VRR and are only listed as HDMI 2.0 spec. All I'm saying is is that it'd be great if they do support 1440p natively, but I wouldn't take this as any type of ironclad proof that they are going to until we hear more. It just sounds like they're trying to sell monitors honestly.

Sounds good.

Great....more manufactures dropping/confirming PS5 news before Sony does...lol. I like it.

My monitor is a Asus Rog Swift PG279Q it does 144hz on DisplayPort but the HDMI on it I think is only limited at 60 at 1440p

Does this mean my TCL series 6 2020 model can take advantage of this? Does this also mean i should get ps5 multiplats instead of xbox series x if im buying both? I need halp.

Good to know. I just purchased the TCL 6 series and it only offers 120hz at 1440p I believe. Without HDMI 2.1 I was worried I'd miss out but this will work perfectly

Edit: lol Kayla

Why?
It look better in 4K anyway
I barely see the difference between 1440p and 4k with my setup, I don't think I will go for 4k focused PC build anytime soon and I probably would have gotten benefits for other stuff by sacrificing on the resolution.

I'll also choose whatever performance mode over 4k every time an option for it is presented.

I'm not going to believe this until we get actual proof from someone with the system.

Cautiously optimistic, then.

Even if I don't get 120fps support I'll get a bump in resolution. I was getting ready to dust off my 1080p screen.

I think it was expect by a lot (myself included ) but still is nice to hear a semi official word on it . I have a 1440p144hz msi monitor that I adore but god does 1080 look bad on it for some reason . I honestly think 720p looks better on it . I know nothing really about monitors past response/lag time so I'm sure there's some mathematical reason for it

Here's what I think: a marketing person has written that blog with no knowledge of what the PS5 outputs.
Also, apparently their 400bit display with no loca dimming will be great for the PS5's UHD drive
🤢
Hopefully it will, but let's wait for someone to have one in their hands

1440p monitors may have a display ratio of 16:9, but the number of pixels is something like 1.7x 1080p so it doesn't exactly scale well unlike 4k, which is exactly 4x the pixels of 1080p.

Hopeful but I'll wait for full confirmation from Sony or someone testing.

I think they just mean your ps5 will work on a 1440p monitor, that doesn't mean it's supported.

when I use my 1440p monitor with my ps4 pro the 4k option on the ps4 is selectable.
I'm guessing your monitor accepts a 4K input and Downscales.

This was common for HDReady sets which simply had to be able to accept ta 1080p signal, even if they were actually 720p or 1080i.

All consoles were (Are?) like this. TVs don't come in 1440p so no real reason to add that.
Have gamed on monitors since the PS360 era. I'm not the only one, so seems kinda shitty to me not to support this if the console can handle 4K.

I played most of PS3 gen, all of PS4 gen on a PC monitor and plan on going the entire PS5 gen on a monitor too 😥
Same, waiting for that 4k, 120Hz(+), HDMI 2.1 monitor with good HDR, before I jump into next-gen.

WHAT

I swear if this is true I'm gonna be so damn happy. I was bummed out when this wasn't a thing on PS4 Pro, so I hoooooooooooooope Sony supports it this time. Worst case scenario, my monitor can take in the 4K signal and internally downsample it to 1440p.

Wait, why wouldn't the PS5 support a 1440p resolution?

Why wouldn't the PS4 Pro when the Xbox One X does? Why didn't the PS3 support monitor resolutions like 1440x900 and 1360x768 seven the Xbox 360 did?

Sony have a poor track record of supporting PC monitors but adding 1440p would be a huge step forward.

I'm guessing they are supporting it, since some TV's only support 120hz at 1080p or 1440p. So its wise to support as many resolutions, for a feature that will be in a lot of games.

I don't think it'll support 1440p and this seems like more of them assuming it will rather than actual knowledge. Don't get your hopes up on 1440p support.

Definitely not confirmation on its own.

Got my 1440p monitor for PC gaming and am hoping the PS5 will support it, too.

Thinking about where to place the massive PS5 in my office gives me great distress, though.

That by itself doesn't mean anything.

Sony needs to confirm that the PS5 supports a native 1440p OUTPUT.

The way it's worded doesn't sound very reassuring. Sounds like marketing person was just tasked to inserted "PS5" into their typical marketing mumbojumbo speech.

I'll wait for a better source.

It literally says "we expect". Not confirmed but why wouldn't the PS5 support 1440P?

You need to finish the line. It says they expect PS5 to support 4k/60 for the next several years. But for high framerate they pretty much say PS5 supports 1440p.

It's not quite as definitive as we want it to be but it's pretty close. We'll find out in a few more weeks since Sony won't say so themselves.
