Well it's taken the better part of the day, but this is finally starting to click. I know part of the hang up here is bad luck on my part, but spending several hours just trying to get your lamp back is no fun. Really think there should be some other way to recall your lamp after so much time or so many deaths.

But, after having finally retrieved my lamp, and then spending another hour or to exploring - it's finally starting to click. Unlocked a shop, found the shortcut for the 3rd floor, figured out how to tackle those two red claw bastards. I'm having fun - finally.

Liking this the more I play it. Especially after realizing that you can kill little creatures for food. Just wish they were easier to see

Onto 21F
and I think I might have to resurface in order to collect more gems for the Lantern. None of the enemies this far down drop them and I'm worried that the shadowy tentacles might reappear soon.

Combat this deep down has definitely changed. You can't just spam attacks anymore, which is good. You can also end up overwhelmed and surrounded if you don't manage certain encounters properly. A really nice change from 3F and 4F. Things are gradually layering and getting more complex with each enemy archetype introduction. Liking it a lot more now. I still am not looking forward to dying and losing my Lantern but I have opened up lots more shortcuts tonight and have definitely gotten into the habit of updating my Blue Bonfire "bookmark" any chance I get. I think that my next inevitable death will be much easier to manage and recover from.

I found 2 different types of Marbles tonight and found that you can expand the storage containers in The Pocket this way. Learned a few new recipes tonight too, mainly Broths and Elixirs. Blue Elixir (stopwatch symbol) is really powerful since it locks your Thirst and Hunger for quite a while.

Well then. Just made a huge jump in depth level. Have a feeling I'm going to be instantly wrecked when I proceed lol

Is there a demo planned? It's not very pricey, but I don't really know if I'll like the game based on the impression here, and I have other things competing for my bud just before Xmas.

The spike traps is frustrating the shit out of me, I'm trying to play really carefully but they still get me when I least expect it. I hate cheap one shot mechanics and it feels the traps are ruining the game for me.

Just started. Hopefully this isn't a game that will frustrate me more than I actually enjoy it

Never felt this lost in a game since a very long time. What do you craft exactly? I'm near this little camp where I can cook I guess?

Stuck on level 2, got the key to the second stairs, but I don't see a way forward. There is another door in a section near by, but its covered by vines.

I used 25 diamond shape thing on a camp and it transformed the color of the camp fire. What's that?

Ok wtf, so level four..?!

So I made it through the futuristic elevator labyrinth that requires your lantern, but at the end there was just a black pillar that I could not do anything with?? Tried shining the lantern on it or the surroundings. What the, did I miss something I had to do in the labyrinth or what?

So, I died for the first time after like 3h of playing, and I went straight up to my body with the new playthrough, but didn't find my lantern. Where do I pick it up?

I believe it's so you can warp back to that campfire

You can now fast travel to this bonfire.
The game is getting better and better the longer you play btw. Can't think about anything else while not playing it ^^

Does 2 things:

1. Allows you to teleport back to that specific camp fire from another camp fire. Only works once and it's a one way trip, so you have to plan how your gonna use it.

2. Prevents the fire from going out when your gone.

The lantern should lay next to your corpse and is not "on" your corpse. Didn't find it after my first death as well till I realised that.

Couple of things I don't get. I looked my body and lantern, but why does it keep showing me to go to my body. Wish that would disappear from the map.

Also what is up with floor 4. I went 6 rooms deep and not a single piece of food and started to death. I did find a wolf, but it didn't drop anything. So frustrating.

Lastly, I really hate the black splotches that appear when you are inside. Makes me think of the old days when video cards would start to fail.

I'm on Win7 and I also can't launch the game. I'm probably gonna get a refund, but I'll keep checking the forums till there's a fix, because the game looks intriguing. Good luck.

But, seriously, did no one test this game on Win7 before launch?

Really enjoying what I'm playing right now, but you have to go in with the right expectations. Don't expect something like a top-down Zelda, it ain't that. I love the atmosphere and how tactile it feels. Can't wait to play more :)

Digging the atmosphere and soundtrack so far. Glad I scooped up gamepass when it was on sale.

This game is mentally enervating, I like the style, I want to see more, but the game mechanics and design choices.. oh man.

I figured out my previous question about floor 4 but FML
passing all the defenses ending up with very little health at a boss, yeah you can guess how that went. Been trying to reach the boss again past 2 hours but I'm not having any luck dying to cheesy things like being pushed into the pillars of light by the moving squares etc. I need a break from this game.

Played for a bit on game pass and really really liked what I saw of it. Liked it so much I bought a copy on PC. I love that you have to figure out stuff for yourself instead of having the game beat you over the head with tutorials.

i love this, but i'm a total noob and have some noob-level questions

  1. i finally died than got careless and died in my second play through from something dumb. i assume the dead bodies stack? that is i can track down both my last death as well as the one before to get my lantern?
  2. i saw that you can purchase a fast travel between campfires, but what are the small stone firepits mid level for? i light each i come across but they dont seem to do anything other than offer a bit of light?
  3. someone mentioned swiping your torch at the thorn. uh, how do i do that? lol
  4. how do you protect or recover from cold? torches dont do shit

finally, i gave up being kind to those cute foxes. this is a harsh world and i'mma kill you for your meat and innards. sorry

Played this for something like 45 minutes and I don't understand what's supposed to compel me to continue.

I knew absolutely nothing going into it, and I don't know much more now after having spent nearly an hour with it. It's a roguelike? Okay. That's something. But then what? I love a game with no tutorials, but there doesn't feel like there's any attempt here to actually suggest to the player what's happening in lieu of tutorials. So you just blindly walk about forever (and omg so slow, even running) until you stumble upon something? Or you open all the spoilers in this thread for tips I guess, and neither feels "right."

Perhaps this one isn't for me. The atmosphere feels tops, and that like-five-minute opening was amazing, but I just don't get the game.

I did in fact end up dying last night down on floor 19. Teleported back pretty close and died again. Now I can't teleport again and have even less stuff to try and fight back to the lantern..ugh.

the gameplay loop is completely missing me so far. It takes too long to get back to "playing" after dying and the spike traps just aren't a fun gameplay mechanic.

I think that's a valid complaint. Definitely a different pace and tone to this game than most of these types of games. im Hoping shortcuts will make things move a tad quicker. Unlike games like gungeon you may not need to go through early stages for drops.

Still lurking the thread for more feedback, but that's pretty much something that worried me from the start.
I'm not completely against "permadeath" in some genres, but this really doesn't sound like the sort of game I would enjoy with that sort of unforgiving mechanic tied in.
In fact, I'd argue that "permadeath" and "you can be killed by surprise in one hit after one single mistake" are pretty much two mechanics that conflict with each other.

i kind of feel its a bit like SoT where half the fun is the discovery of figuring out how things work, even if that means discussing it with others. like SoT, i think some gamers don't appreciate that. it certainly flies in the face of most modern game design, which is why i actually like and appreciate it despite it feeling a bit obtuse.

I managed to reach level 4 by opening a door with my lantern after going through a swimming area but died... Now I can't go this way again since I don't have my lantern.

I found another way to level 4 thanks to a key but I'm stuck again in an area with a lot of stairs because I need my lantern to open a new gate. On the map it's saying my corpse is level 3 between the level 3 that I fully discovered and level 4. Help?

I'm loving the atmosphere and the controls but the gameplay loop seems too unforgiving.

If you opened the door, it stays open. You should be able to go back to the area and continue.

The water area you are talking about is still technically level 3, even though it isn't on the map, so maybe that's why it's saying it's on level 3 even if you fully explored it

I rarely feel conflicted about games, it's either a clear "I'll buy it" or "avoid" but this game looks interesting and off-putting to me at the same time. I love the look, sound and atmosphere of this one, but the gameplay itself looks rather off-putting to me and some of the impressions here don't do much to alleviate this. Permadeath, spike traps and the overall slowness will probably kill it for me, I just don't appreciate those things. So sadly I'll skip this one.

Eh, as long as you are taking your time and paying attention to your surroundings you won't trip any of the spike traps. They are pretty obvious.

That's not entirely true. I've had them hiding behind pillars where you could only just barely see the side of them. I've actually taken to just swiping behind pillars to make sure I'm not just missing one, and in general I try and walk in front of pillars too.

Haven't seen that yet. That does sound tricky, though I get nervous when I lose sight of my character in any scenario tbh.
