The amount of people who explicitly choose to opt out of crossplay in your region, and are queuing at the same time as you, is going to be a small to unplayable userbase.
I turn off cross play on CoD and only play with Playstation users and I get into games in seconds in North America. Adding Xbox users to the mix will make the pool even larger.

Maybe, just maaaybe, DICE this time puts some level of effort into anti-cheat.

Not holding my breath after 1 and V, but... maybe

Im worried about everyone carrying rockets or health

What else can they include that would be as good? Cant imagine anyone carrying ammo unless certain abilities benefit from it

Like the healing gun would pair excellently with an ammo crate but thats a specific specialist assuming they dont want to carry a health pack or rockets

Since explosives are its own category its not like you're sacrificing c4 or frags.

Guessing ammo crate, health pack, rockets aa, rockets at, motion sensor, respawn beacon, jammer, are all part of this category

Wonder if theres a dedicated rocket specialist

IF Dice botches the PC version like BFV and don't add anti-cheat, expect ton of hackers, console gamers don't play with PC gamers..

Well that's just fantastic. Cross-progression is even more important to me than cross-play.

Definitely don't like their specialists system, the class system worked just fine. I'm afraid there'll be even less teamplay. Wait and see then.

Wonderful news all around, especially with cross play. With that being a huge deal/problem in Warzone, console players having the choice to opt out of that in 2042 is fantastic.

Can't wait for this game.

Hahahha, same, except this time it is because I'm too good rather than too bad. :D
Do you know if controller support on PC will be similar to consoles? For example, aim assist, similar customization for sensitivity/deadzone settings, etc? Just curious since BF 2042 will be my first PC BF game at launch, as I was always a console player beforehand

Excellent news! Having the option to hop between the PS and PC versions without losing progression is a dream come true. Being forced to grind unlocks on two different versions was horrible in the past.

Since it's opt in by default, turning it off means you will be stuck with a small userbase. If it was opt in by choice, you wouldn't have to pick then between being stuck with cheaters, or a small user base.

And if it were opt in, nobody would turn it on, so why even bother implementing it?

Also I'm pretty sure that's not how it works. I don't think the two player pools are mutually exclusive.

It could default opt in if you crossplay with people in your party who have mouse and keyboard (which is how apex legends handles it) or if you specifically wanted to join PC servers. Battlefield on PC has no problem filling servers and having a long lifespan unlike COD which needs crossplay to help boost up the numbers on PC in that game otherwise the regular mp portion of it would die.

Yea, we still don't have the breakdown of what goes in secondary weapon vs. support gadget. But I think you are right that rocket launcher/C4/ammo/repair tool won't all be on one player's loadout.

Is rocket launcher a gadget or a secondary? We know heal/ammo are gadgets.
And is c4/sticky AT grenade in the grenade slot or in the gadgets? We know frag/incendiary are grenades.

It's a secondary gadget, which several gameplay sequences have shown. Falck has for instance been seen to run with the syrette pistol and a rocket launcher, on top of a primary rifle and secondary pistol.

Playing with Xbox Series and PS5 players isnt gonna be a small userbase.
People on PS5 and XS would have it as opt in tho by default, and therefor you won't be able to play with them. You will only get to play with people who go to setting and turn off crossplay which is gonna be small.
you can turn off crossplay?
For people who wanna play with friends on PC? If your franchise is known to be riddled with cheaters on PC, why even bother to make crossplay between consoles and PC? Just limit it to PS & Xbox.

Part of me is annoyed that anyone can be a medic and run medic packs etc, then I remember that the majority of players really don't care about helping others lol.

Shame about the traits being stuck to certain characters. Would be better to have a custom option and build as you like.

We're still months out from release so maybe have some patience since they're still working out crossplay.

i get that, but a proper functioning server infrastructure and admin tools so we can keep cheaters and hackers at bay is more important than crossplay IMO (at least for PC)
And they already dodged a question regarding RSP in a youtuber Q&A, not even just a "yes, it will be available". I don't expect any details yet, just give me the confirmation that it will be there AT ALL please

Cross play/progression is a big plus so I can just play wherever I want lol. Co-op sounding good too, will be nice to play some of my friends that dislike pvp.

Anyone who is proficient with an automatic rifle will want to run with ammo I believe. Getting low on ammo is the only thing keeping you from a glorious killstreak. This is personally why I have run Support in the past, because I hate to rely on others for ammo.

Hopefully rocket launcher will not be the go-to option for everyone. I can see it feeling too situational to bother with. I'm not interested in it myself if there are more interesting options to enhance my playstyle.

The cheaters are a bummer but the trolls that cheat in the most blatant and obvious way possible without suffering any consequences are infuriating. If BF2042 is at least troll free then I'll be really happy.

I'm also hoping that some of the would be cheaters are fine playing offline with bots.

*PC & consoles can opt-out from playing together
Hallelujah. Playing with my Xbox buddies without opening the door to PC.

Warzone totally needs this switch, it would solve so much of the heat It's getting.

It shouldn't be opt out, it should be opt-in.

Well, it works fine for Apex legends, console players there never see pc people unless there is one explicitly in their cross platform party. Then again this is different (opt out), I see what you are saying maybe.

I kind of understand why but it kinda sucks old gen and new gen can't play together. I have a couple friends who don't see a need to upgrade and were thinking about getting 2042.

Destiny & COD allow you to play across generations which is nice

It's a shame there is no option for certain cross play servers to be available for that purpose.
I wonder if they might have some special servers/playlists that way. But from what they said it's more than just 128/64 difference, also reduced map sizes and maybe even more we don't know yet. It seems it will be a markedly different experience on older consoles, though still a full fledged game with all the tools/vehicles/features available.

I'm still slightly confused about the cross play. Is it input based by default or not?
Do you have a source? I would prefer if they handled it this way.
Looks like the Apex method except in reverse? Still default console but with crossplay enabled you may be put into PC servers server browser or matchmaking if you have someone on PC in your squad? The details are still a bit light except for the fact that

Wow this generation is going to last long, eh?
Are there are other details you can provide about how crossplay is being implemented?

damn, I don't like not being able to play with my PS4 friends (on a PS5).

I guess I understand why. reduced player counts, etc. but I was hoping there'd be some solution there.

That's a real disappointment for me.
Just buy the PS4 version and play it on your PS5. I think they have a bundle where you get both versions? Thats the only way is to pay more.

I'm waiting on them to tell us more about Battlepass stuff but this is all great.

I really hope that the battlepass system is something along the lines of what 343 is doing with Infinite, but I'm skeptical, and honestly it very well might make or break if I decide to purchase this or not.

This is a once or twice a week game with friends at best, and I wish the battlepass system wasn't fomo filled like most of the others, but shrug.
