Tried it about a week ago.

The game's tutorial is client side and the first campaign mission (with a really long opening animation) was curiously server side (even solo). Had a lot of hickups and lag during the latter.
And later campaign missions aren't possible because I need another player, and well no one was playing.

I like me some bot matches in multiplayer games (Red Orchestra 1, Quake III), and I legitimately think it had the potential to be a good time-waster bot multiplayer game if they fix-up the AI.

Shame, it was a pretty good game with some good character designs and deserved more really. I wasnt much of a fan of the multiplayer though. The campaign was alright, dont know why the single player campaign has to be become unplayable though.
Just launching so close to overwatch and overwatch being seen as "better" at least in MP to me, just completely overshadowed it. I didnt touch it again when overwatch came out.

I've been playing all the campaign missions solo. Just need to start a private match.

To be fair to bleeding edge, it's on game pass, so I expect the steam playerbase to represent a fraction of the total to begin with.

I'm not saying it has an high population, I'm sure it's abysmal, but still.

Game was at least almost fun, unlike BB.
Ah, that's a good point, forgot BE was on Game Pass. It probably did a lot better there for a while. Hopefully. Though given the sheer breadth of stuff available on GP it might have just gotten lost there.

Honestly, this stuff always just made me feel bad. Unless the product was made by utterly garbage people, I have to imagine it feels shitty to have worked on this project for years only to be THAT unpopular. I have no interest in this game or many other like it, but it really sucks when stuff fails this hard
Yeah. It's still kinda crazy to me that Ninja Theory of all people are behind BE. It sucks to see a game from them bomb when Hellblade was such a runaway hit.

Disregarding the quality of the game, it's pretty wild that a game can literally become totally unplayable.

Bleeding Edge is a good game.

Battleborn had its issues, but was too. The campaign was fun as a co op looter, and the MP, whilst it had an overly busy UI and some issues, was also fun. I enjoyed it more than Overwatch, for my part.

But for some reason a lot of people like to vitriolically shit on a game every now and then, and this flawed but fun game was it for a while. Completely needless imo, but hey, Era does Era.

I wanted to give this game a genuine try just because I love Borderlands so much. I think I made it one or two levels into the campaign before I just couldn't deal with it.

I actually liked the beta of this game and thought it was pretty fun. Main issue with the game was the small POV which felt cramped. Only reason i didnt pick up the game was cause it's basically an online only game and it was pretty clear it was gonna bomb.

The servers will still up? lmao. Will never forget it for memes about how awful its UI was.

Gearbox have always had horrific UI design. Borderlands is one of the most disgusting UIs I've ever seen. Until you're familiar enough with the colours/design/layout to be able to parse it, this shit is just straight up an affront to your eyeballs:

Yeah, even Borderlands looks terrible to me in general, not just UI.
Never liked the look of these games, and Battleborn is a visual nightmare on a whole other level.

But it's just so incredibly fun. Even just bot matches to play around for a bit and try out heroes.

We made plans to play coop and get as far as we can this month, since none of my friends ever finished it.

Played the beta and thought it was awful. Imagine playing Doom but your best weapons are on cooldowns... and you only have three weapons. I'm exaggerating of course. The overall action was nowhere close to being as good as Doom.

I genuinely thought this shut down about a year after launch. Turns out I was thinking of Lawbreakers.

I've tried to play this game a few times a day for the past few days and it does not sign me in. The game is already kaput.

I was looking up some old stuff, because the Japanese version of the 50 Cent PS3 game got trophies.

But the servers are down. To even LOAD the game, you have to make sure your PS3 is offline when it loads up, otherwise the GameSpy servers timeout and it never loads.

Have 5 more missions left. Put off playing for a few days. Think I'm going to try to play them publicly with others instead of solo to try to finish them faster.

I will surprise if there is anyone still playing that game at this point as much I'm surprised by the fact that it had a single-player component and that the servers are still up.

Edit: I see that the OP is still playing it. Color me surprised.

I always wonder why in situations like this, the developers don't put out an update letting you play the single player campaign or bot mode offline.

Why they can't patch the SP campaign to work offline? That's terrible for preservation in the future.

It's usually a matter of being efficient with dev time and resources.

Gearbox is likely working on new projects, maintaining the games under their publishing arm + continued support for BL3 atm, as such assigning people to this doesn't add up for them.

They could do it as a gesture, but I doubt they care enough to try and change anything, just letting it die entirely.

I actually got two people on a public match the first time I tried on Xbox One a few days ago so I expected there would be more on Saturday especially considering it was the second to last day. But there was no one. Though I didn't wait more than 30 seconds when it couldn't even find one other person.

Did finish the fourth mission solo so I have four more left. There's a good chance I won't finish before they shutdown servers tommorow but I don't mind if I don't.

All I remember about this game is that one time Randy Pitchford linked to a R34 subreddit for Battleborn and might have made it himself.

Costs money to develop, test, and release a patch. If the game stopped bringing in money, most devs won't bother to pay for it.

That's the real problem with internet-based DRM. It's not that YOU won't have an internet connection, the publisher will eventually lose interest in keeping the authentication servers online.

It's definitely funny to check the user history of the person who made that sub, as it goes from "What's this Battleborn game? It sure looks interesting." to "I'm making a Battleborn porn subreddit!" in the span of a couple of weeks.

I was legit bummed when Battleborn stumbled out of the gate.

Contrast that with Lawbreakers where I just couldn't stop laughing after it was DoA.

I just beat the campaign. Got the game for like a dollar at Gamestop. With that in mind, not bad. I like the aesthetic, humour and gunplay, there are just some truly baffling design decisions holding it back. I get shutting down the servers if no-one is playing but the campaign at least deserves to live on.

So they're shutdown now ? or today is the last day ? I could attempt to power through the campaign in one sitting

Wow. I actually played this with a friend during a free weekend or beta or something. Didn't even realize until now it was Battleborn.

As the person who created the Battleborn OT over at the old place, has some of the merch still, and genuinely loved it, I probably should say something:

It was a good, fun, First Person MOBA. I loved so many of the characters, from Phoebe to Orendi to Deande, and to lose access to them entirely is heartbreaking.

If Overwatch were to shut down tomorrow, players would have figurines and artworks and collectibles of everyone to keep as mementos.

For those of us who were real fans of Battleborn and put hours upon hours into it, and had the same sort of connections with these characters, we've now got next to nothing. Some cheaply made pre-order figures of only six characters, and a bunch of surprisingly sharp trading cards.

This game deserved better than the legacy it received. It didn't have to be on the same global status as a League of Legends, but there was just enough of a prebuilt wave of negativity towards it before it even released, and Gearbox did not help that at all with schoolyard-level marketing and not making clear for a long time this was different in playstyle from Overwatch.

I fucking loved this game, and seeing the same four year old "dunking points" used on it even when it's closing down genuinely makes me sad.

I'm bummed to see it go too. It's by far the best moba on console in my opinion, I really did enjoy the multiplayer. It failed for a myriad of reasons but I do believe the main component of the game (the core moba style PvP mode) isn't the actual reason why.
