Early Access FAQ (as at 25/06/2023) said:
Why Early Access?
Through releasing Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2, we've learned that working directly with our players during development makes our games better. RPGs this large, with so many avenues for player choice and exploration, thrive from feedback as new features and fixes are incrementally added to the game.

Early Access gives players a chance to participate in development, and it gives us an opportunity to explore different game ideas with a live community to find what works best. We want to learn how you play the game and use that to make it a better experience for everyone.

Will I enjoy BG3 in Early Access?
Having been in Early Access for a while, Baldur's Gate 3 is a relatively stable experience with many hours of content. However, though we incrementally add classes and features in the lead-up to launch, it contains approximately 1/3rd of the game.

Only buy the game now if you'd like an early look, or if you want to participate in community feedback ahead of the full launch. Otherwise, we suggest you wait until version 1.0 releases – that way, you'll be able to enjoy the full story of Baldur's Gate 3 along with all of the playable classes, races, skills and spells that will be included in the full game – and you'll get less of the bugs.

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?
Baldur's Gate 3 releases August 31, 2023.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?
The full release of BG3 will include all of the classes and races, and most of the spells and skills contained in the D&D Player's Handbook, as well as Act 2 & Act 3 of the story of Baldur's Gate 3.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?
As of Patch 9 (14 Dec 2022), the Early Access version of Baldur's Gate 3 includes Act 1 of the game – that's approx 25-35 hours of content, and potentially much more than that if you're someone who likes to create new characters to explore different paths. Player levels are currently capped at 5.

Current Playable Races: Humans, Elves, Half-Elves, Halflings, Dwarves, Drow, Half-Drow, Githyanki, Gnome

Current Playable Classes: Fighter, Wizard, Rogue, Ranger, Cleric, Warlock, Druid, Sorcerer, Barbarian, Bard, Paladin

(Last updated 5th May 2022)

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?
The price of the game will remain $59.99 USD / £49.99 GBP / 59,99€ EUR at launch. As Steam makes periodic changes to their recommended regional pricing to reflect changes in purchasing power and currencies around the world, the price in other currencies may change to reflect Steam's most recent recommendations.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?
Since we announced BG3, community discussion and feedback has shaped what we've said and done. Though we have a strong vision for the game that runs throughout our team of 350+ people, our goal is to create a game that gets our audience – you! – excited, and to maintain a healthy relationship with those who take the time to provide feedback and help us to improve.

We use data collection tools to help us better balance the game, but we also listen to feedback wherever conversations about BG3 are happening and we use that to drive internal debate. Working with your thoughts, feedback and gameplay data helps us to better understand how our ideas are received and how they can be improved.

Gather your party, and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.

Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a Mind Flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil.

From the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2 comes a next-generation RPG, set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons.

Gather_new.gif

Choose from a wide selection of D&D races and classes, or play as an origin character with a hand-crafted background. Adventure, loot, battle and romance as you journey through the Forgotten Realms and beyond. Play alone, and select your companions carefully, or as a party of up to four in multiplayer.

An_expansive_original_story.png

Abducted, infected, lost. You are turning into a monster, but as the corruption inside you grows, so does your power. That power may help you to survive, but there will be a price to pay, and more than any ability, the bonds of trust that you build within your party could be your greatest strength. Caught in a conflict between devils, deities, and sinister otherworldly forces, you will determine the fate of the Forgotten Realms together.

Next_Gen_new.gif

Forged with the new Divinity 4.0 engine, Baldur's Gate 3 gives you unprecedented freedom to explore, experiment, and interact with a world that reacts to your choices. A grand, cinematic narrative brings you closer to your characters than ever before, as you venture through our biggest world yet.

The Forgotten Realms are a vast, detailed and diverse world, and there are secrets to be discovered all around you -- verticality is a vital part of exploration. Sneak, dip, shove, climb, and jump as you journey from the depths of the Underdark to the glittering rooftops of the Upper City. How you survive, and the mark you leave on the world, is up to you.

01_Bullets_points.png

allows you to combine your forces in combat, and split your party to follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it.

02_Bullets_points.png

offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the entire narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or many other outcomes.

03_Bullets_points.png

based on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage & disadvantage, and roll modifiers join combat cameras, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight.

04_Bullets_points.png

through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story.

05_Bullets_points.png

allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!

Time to spend ten hours rerolling characters so I don't have to do it on release!

I think I'll be waiting for release. The temptation is real though.

Best of luck for all those jumping in today! Can't wait to read some impressions, looking forward to playing once the game releases.

Still debating if I should wait until there's more content or bite now. The lack of saves working throughout early access kind of ruins it for me. I'm still only 25 hours into Divinity OS2 so I probably should finish that first

Please tell me there's a way to increase that text size, because I'm sick of developers with their tiny UI.

The characters look so good. Just wish I was able to get a 30xx, I don't think my 980Ti era rig will do well with this game.

Nice OT! Can't wait to try out the EA. Although I'm not sure how much I'll play before waiting for the full release, I'm excited to see how it feels to play when compared to DOS2 and BG2.

Thinking of rolling drow ranger first just to see what kind of changes they made to make viable relative to 5e

While Original Sin 2 didn't have an in-game option for UI scale, it was possible to edit in a config file. I'd expect something similar in Baldur's Gate 3.

I might have considered getting it during EA, but full price launch with 55 Euro? maybe 45 or so...guess I better wait for a first small sale with -20% or so.

I understand why not but I wish they had some kind of preload available for this. I really hope I am not downloading for half the day...

Rerolling is cheating and I want Larian to ban game accounts caught cheating.

It's got a great deal of content despite its Early Access label. (Disclaimer: I don't even own a gaming PC or anything but I did some research for an article the other day and I was pretty impressed by what I read.)

If anything, I hope they dial the amount of content back compared to DOS2. That game was an act too long.

I hope they reconsider then because that sounds awful

I copied pasted this from a website. It compares just the EA size.

Here are the comparisons, courtesy of Larian Studios:

  • Amount of Combat: 22 instances in Divinity: Original Sin 2 Early Access vs. 80 instances in Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access
  • Amount of Dialogue Lines in English: 17,600 in Divinity: Original Sin 2 Early Access vs. 45, 980 in Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access
  • Amount of Characters: 142 in Divinity: Original Sin 2 Early Access vs. 596 in Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access
  • Amount of Spells/Actions Available: 69 in Divinity: Original Sin 2 Early Access vs. 146 in Baldur's Gate 3 Early Access

EA is just chapter 1, right? In DOS2, that was just that first starting island - fort joy, (and the ship prologue), IIRC. So this EA is probably more than just one large area to explore.

It'll be difficult to resist playing during early access. I'd rather wait for 1.0 but I might get weak and pick it up.

I'm really curious how they will implement sorcerer metamagic (I know the class is not in ea)

I imagine there will be some aspect of the UI/skillbar that handles sorcery points, so metamagic would be part of that? For example, before you click the icon to cast your spell, you click the dedicated button that handles sorcery points, which opens up a sub-menu that contains metamagic. You click the metamagic you want, then click the spell, then cast it. Something along those lines.

I'm taking this early access as an opportunity to play the game on the Evil path which I'll never do on my real main playthrough.

As someone that never played a CRPG but is interested in them, it will be a good recommendation? I'm aware of the EA status and I don't mind being only part of Act 1, but the game visually looks appealing and that is surprising for me as "fantasy medieval" games usually don't tell me much!
