The optics look bad, but let's be real, those outfits and weapons we're finished months ago and piece mealed out since launch and done by a completely different team than those organizing and finishing patches. It's the same shit levied at Fallout 76 and Destiny during their content droughts.

SO I agree that this sucks, but what are the game improvements and bugfixes that are not being done?

The Reddit thread OP mentions this:

Like, all we've really gotten is a nice but kind of lackluster event, and a bunch of bugfixes.

So they are fixing bugs. Are there any big bugs not being addressed? I personally have around 110hrs with the game on Series X and have not run into any game ending bugs, just gotten stuck in geometry or other small thing were a restart fixes it. The only other big bug is the one were bigger fish fall through when you kill them with a bow.

Another question is, did they have a road map for DLC? Like I said I am 110hrs into the game and still going. The game has the Asgard content and I don't recall playing the Atlantis stuff in the base game on Odyssey. So honest question, what DLC or missing game features were promised that are not there.

to me this seems Ubi being their usual self.

I was excited for Valhalla but I just can't get into it. Odyssey was such a massive step above it.
I both agree and disagree. Modern AC games are like Final Fantasy games were they shake up most of the game mechanics each game, sometimes for no good reason.

Odyssey had a better story arc and maybe main character but Valhalla has better missions. It had better sea stuff, but it also had too many missions and too much bloat. To many areas that you didn't really have to get into as part of the story. Valhalla is better IMO in this. Combat is also improved, although a bit slower.

Oh well, at least Ubi made a good show of "Sorry gais, we learned our lesson, it'll never happen again" with Origins and Odyssey before fucking us in the ass once more. Whenever the next AC comes out, I will not be buying it at launch.

This is particularly crappy because imo Valhalla is a fantastic game underneath all of the bullshit. I had a great time with it most of the time. But some of the bugs were just fucking infuriating. Worse than anything that ever happened to me in any previous AC in terms of getting in the way of my enjoyment.

I got through it, but I gave up on the idea of clearing the map like I did for the previous games, and basically had a "three tries limit" for things like the stone physics puzzles when I figured out that there was zero reward in doing all that shit. Maybe I will look through it again when they get through the DLCs, but I really am not looking forward to it, especially with the poor showing they had for Odyssey DLC.

I love how we've reached a point where a huge AAA game being broken 3 months after release while the publisher keeps on adding MTXs (to a $60 game that costs over $100 for its complete edition. I might add), is normal and people who are mad at said publisher for not fixing the game before adding more MTXs, are being mocked and talked down.

Gaming industry is moving towards such a bright future.

Huh. I played 78 hours on Series X in performance mode and didn't have any major problems outside of the occasional glitch and sometimes the lip-syncing breaking (but after 60 hours I was speed-reading the dialogue and skipping ahead anyway).

After patch 1.10 made the game nearly unplayable for me, I put the game on hold indefinitely. I'm really annoyed at how badly they messed up the game considering I was able to play both Origins and Odyssey with near zero issues immediately upon release.

I haven't tried after patch 1.11, but at this point I think I'm going to wait for at least one more patch before I even touch it again. This has 100% convinced me to not purchase another Ubi game on release day (or at full price) again though.

I just made a thread complaining about the game

www.resetera.com

4 months after launch "Defensive Measures" in AC:Valhalla is still broken

Beware Area spoilers Put 25 hours into the game at launch and hit this broken quest. It seems like part of the main story so I put the game on the backburner hoping it gets patched, considering there was a ton of people having issues with the same quest. Several patches claiming to resolve...

How the heck are quest breaking bugs still not fixed. Especially one that renders a whole region unplayable.

I've played almost all the AC games but Ubi is starting to lose me with their current focus. Part of it is open world fatigue, but also these games are just too fucking derivative this many entries in. I know Odyssey started the more adventure focus and while I put a lot of time into that the worlds have gotten entirely too big and bloated for any meaningful experience wrt story progression. These games need a quest and story editor like none other. But yeah, mtx, make as much money off a single release as possible (thanks GTA Online), keep your customers glued into that one title for as long as possible...I am just not the demographic for these sort of games.

I will at least give props to Ubisoft +, it was a godsend being able to try out WD: Legion and Valhalla without having to shell out full price, and in the past I would've used something like Redbox for renting games but that's not a thing anymore. At least things like U+ offset some of the vacuum created in its absence.

I really like Valhallasnd I enjoyed Odyssey and Origins but I really miss the polish AC games had in their cut scenes in the past. It's now just talking heads with precanned animations and 3 different facial expressions maximum. That combined with the amount of long breaks in conversations where people just stare at each other for a few seconds is just immersion breaking.
yes!!
its really trash!
I have almost 70 hours played, so I can't say that I didn't like the game but man it could have been so much more...
I love what Valhalla could have been...
this huge open world viking simulator but with better cinematograph, better combat and more polished technically ( animations, facial animations, quest design , ... ) could have been a dream game...

I was near the end when the last patch hit, which introduced the lip sync bug. I finished it while that was happening, but I guess it's a good thing I didn't wait, surprised they didn't fix that yet. Seemed really frequent.

We've clearly reached the point where bugs in a massive open world game means the game is irredeemably broken.

That still didn't fix quest/game breaking bugs and introduced new bugs like lipsync bug.

This is in stark Contrast to your OP and thread title that insinuates they aren't doing anything to improve the base game.

Having the lip sync bug myself, and have experienced some other minor bugs where an NPC froze outside a house where I needed to escort them. And, my horse decided to run with only 2 of its 4 legs, flailing the front 2 in the air. Thought I was experiencing some graphical errors early on, but turned out it was one of them animus data mysteries.

I know people have had a game breaking bug in Lundun, didn't have it myself and cleared out the region.

Still, Valhalla is (for me at least) is better than Odyssey, but on par with Origins.

Yeah, the team that fixes bugs for the store and the artists that create these items should totally suspend work until the coders and QA for the game have fixed all the bugs. Just move them from one team to the other, since they have the same skillset and are probably not in a different country alltogether.

It's lame, but there is no "prioritizing" this sort of stuff, these are done by different people. The same people creating textures of costumes (and really, more than likely these were created ages ago and are just being cycled in) are not the same people that fix bugs.
This is the truth tbh. People are forgetting how crazy long the end credits are on an Ubisoft game but believe that its the same people making skins that are working on bug fixes / QA.

Maybe I'm an Old, but I don't get what people would buy in the store. There's a zillion hours of content in the game and it's not like it's hard to level... in fact, it's a bit of a problem that if you do even a bit of side content you end up being pretty OP for the main story. Why waste actual dollars on top of that?

Played 136 hours of this game and I haven't spent a dime (besides the season pass). I can't believe there are people out there who pay for microtransactions for this game.

As far as these things taking dev time, I am no expert but aren't these things handled by different teams? Like the people making these microtransactions would be of little use fixing bugs no?

I played valhalla for over 100 hours with no major bugs and found plenty of armor and weapons. Not much to complain about for me. And even on the hardest difficulty there wasnt much gameplay difference between any of the armors. Upgraded or not

They still haven't fixed the Lundun mission 'Walls and Shadows' bug. That forced me to have to scare an NPC half a km across the map to trigger the cutscene correctly. It's a shame, given that it was supposed to be fixed in the last patch, and wasn't.

I think it's a great game, but would've preferred a touch less content, with a touch more QA.

I really don't understand who uses MTX in ACV. Unless it's for cool cosmetic stuff or something. I found myself overleveled for most challenges without spending anything-- and the weapons upgrade system means you can always buff up what you have rather than worrying about what you don't.

It's certainly not pay to win. Maybe it's pay to win faster?

I'm playing AC Valhalla from 2,3 days ago on standard PS4 and its performance is much worse than Origins and Odyssey in my opinion. Didn't see much bugs in those games, even after 200 hours of playing both, but now I had awful frame drops, lip sync bugs, voice bugs and... in less than 5 hours.
I don't care about MTX at all, if it's like previous games. Enjoyed them a lot and completed them without giving any dollar for those things. But they were much more polished games and hope to see improvements in this new ACV update and next ones.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s best feature costs an extra 10 bucks

Permanent XP Boost makes Assassin’s Creed Odyssey a better game

I think Odyssey was such a mammoth game (like, you can sink hundreds of hours into these) that, for a lot of players, getting to the good stuff (ie being able to really fuck about with abilities and having new ones coming in fast) is a big bonus. It kinda sucks that it's locked behind £7 worth of mtx but I suppose that's not a big deal to some people if they just want to play the game in the optimal way.

Would obviously prefer '50% extra XP' to just be behind an in-game toggle or something (or easy mode) in an ideal world. I get why people buy them though.
