So I've cultivated quite a collection of various artbooks over the last few years and I was wondering, is anyone else amazed at how quickly some of these books go out of print and then explode in terms of secondary market prices?

For example, I have almost every Marvel Art Book to date but I missed out on The Winter Soldier and you can't touch a copy of that book (new) for under 300 bucks.

Even something like Art of Doom (2016) is trending at between 90-150 bucks.

The Breath of Fire artbook was around $700 just last year. I was surprised at the secondary market as well. The Disney Story design book is like $500 I think. Mad I didn't bite.
And the other Disney books are going up as well. I done fucked up.

I know right?! I have a few rare old ones including the Art of Halo 3 which used to go for ridiculous prices back in the day, might still do actually. LOL

I haven't bought and books lately due to moving with the exception of the Cyberpunk 2077 one that came in the CE. Surprised it was a full size and filled out book full of a ton of great content and developer commentary.

I might lean more towards Dead Space since that book is older. Whenever it goes out of stock the price will likely skyrocket like it does for almost everything else. Still kicking myself for not getting the book for Evil Within when I had the chance.
i think the artbook did go out of print a couple years ago iirc, might be getting mixed up with a HC graphic novel

I imagine it's just warehouse stock, like Wolfenstein and DOOM I imagine it will rocket up once those dry up.

Do people really buy these books second hand for these prices ? It seems nut to me

They do, at least looking at sold Ebay listings.

Buying from book specialists is the best, I love the care they take with packaging.

Great, Amazon.de just cancelled my order for the Control artbook, I thought this was supposed to finally come out this month.

I guess they will just put it up again when they have a new release date, but it sold out so fast last time, I was happy to get my order in. Now I have to get lucky again and hope I don't miss it...

My copy of the Gameboy Box Art Collection just showed up, and goddamn is this an incredible book. It's my first Bitmap purchase, but I can tell it definitely won't be my last.

Glad to see people enjoying Bitmap book. They do incredible work and cant be praised enough. Their book are made with passion for fans and every grams shows.

On my end, I cancelled my Tsushima order as it was never coming back in stock but ordered back from the US because it got reprinted there and even with shipping over the atlantic its cheaper.

Just splurged on the Crash 4 book. Maybe I won't mind landscape format so much if I just keep buying them and get to a sizeable number of them.

Looks like I got the Anime Architecture book just in time. I'm used to seeing video game/anime art books sell out, but this one seemed to go especially quickly. I'm sure it'll get another print run.

Picked up FF DOT. The hardcover is so cute, it's small and chunky.

I like how Kazuko Shibuya designed sprites for the newer generation characters.

So I'm still waiting for Amazon to ship me this:

51hFrCZtPFL._SY369_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

Only Taschen's own site seems to have any stock currently. And it's considerably more expensive than what I preordered it for on Amazon.

The first one was excellent and I've heard this one is actually even better.

Also, is it cool to post non-gaming artbooks in here? If not I won't do it again.

Oh nice, didn't know there's another. I bought the Ralph McQuarrie two-volume set so ended up skipping the Taschen book. The first looks excellent from the previews. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this one.

There no rules and I welcome anything. Yes its broad, but as anything can be art so the sky's the limit. Come and share your books, maybe it will inspire or be of interest to someone else.

Hey everyone, I need a little advice. I was going to purchase the Zelda: Breath of the Wild Creating a Champion Hero's Edition from Amazon. I noticed that they were out of stock and it didn't say if more was on the way. I saw it available though on the Book Depository website, for about $40 CAD more.

So should I wait for Amazon Canada to restock it so I can get prime 1 day shipping and get it for much cheaper, or should I assume its not coming back/being restocked and go with Book Depository and get it for more expensive and for 1 month shipping? Thanks everyone.

Generally, if Amazon is getting more, there will be some mention of more being on the way, or "order now and we'll ship it to you when available." If you're not seeing that and you just have alternate sellers and whatnot, then chances are it isn't coming back and you'll mostly be paying aftermarket prices. It did come out back in 2018 and artbooks don't hang around forever.

Absolutely. I'd say J.W. Rinzler's 'making of' books are the best Star Wars related books you can buy. Empire's went out of print here in the UK so prices were really high for a while, but thankfully they reprinted it and I was able to nab one.

I mainly lurk here in here but I enjoy seeing everyone's pick-ups. I don't own many gaming artbooks. Just BOTW: Creating a Champion and the two Last of Us artbooks.

Got shipping confirmation on two books from FanGamer being sent out: "Press Start to Translate" ($15 down from $22) and "This be book bad translation, video games!" since that was also only $15 & I had no idea when I'd order from them again. These should make nice companion pieces with that Retro Game Super Translation Selection book from HG101.

Quick question about that Arcade Typography book. I see it's $27 on Amazon & remember hearing decent things about it. There seems to be commentary for each game, so is it just more than just pictures of each game's font? It's tempting, but at the same time, I kinda wanna save up for something like the Gamecube Anthology from Geeksline or the Atari 2600/7800 Visual Compendium from Bitmap Books just so I can be caught up with those.

That McQuarrie collection is gold. I have it myself and it was worth every penny.

Came across this and it seems like Dark Horse / Square Enix used fan translations for the NieR: Automata World Guide. Wonder how common this actually is.

Didn't the same thing happen with Dark Horse's release of the Super Mario Encyclopedia?

.....I wonder if it was the same person/translator.

Dark Horse had mistranslations in the FF Ultimanias. Anything published by them is an easy skip for me.

Is there much overlap with the first Archives book? I forgot why I decided not to pick it up.

No, Archive is filled to the brim with new material though of course there is some overlap. It also contains tons of pictures, early script notes, etc.

FYI, they just released the smaller version of that book. It has all the material but smaller print and pictures.

And it's less than 20 bucks on Amazon.

FY,I I have the big sucker and this version and they format the smaller one very well. It still has all the material and honestly, it's much easier to manage. :)

I know there are some Katsuya Terada fans here, there's a live digital draw going on right now:
