I already have a nice 4K HDR10+ set, but it doesn't have HDMI 2.1. I think I'll upgrade to an OLED midway through the gen for those kinds of features.

Listen at the beginning of this generation all anyone said we needed was 1080p. So unless people's eyes has gotten 4x better since 2013 what is the point?
I'm not sure if you're joking, but 1080p was all that was needed in 2013 because that's the best the consoles could possibly achieve. This is a new generation where games are going to be regularly running at either a native or very well upscaled 4k. I don't even have the best eyesight and I can tell the difference. HDR is an even bigger deal.

Our eyes haven't gotten better, but the hardware definitely has.

I'm going to continue to play on 1440p display.
My 10-yo tv still works so I won't buy new one.

I purchased a 4K samsung TV with HDR10+ this year (no Hmdi 2.1) but i am yet to experience any game in 4K (currently gaming on a base Ps4).
Cannot wait for PS5 to try it.

1080p. I can't really justify a 4K tv at the moment. And I haven't even started to read up on what kind of tv I want. Perhaps next year.

After seeing Gears at 4k and HDR on my friends LCD... I went home and played my 2012 Vierra Plasma at 1080p (super scaled), and thought it looked... better.
So gonna stick with that for now.

Bought a Sony 4k tv just under 2 years ago. I'm good for the up and coming gen. I watch films more than gaming these days also.

Just got a 4K TV last week (HDMI 2.1/ HDR10+) and it looks really nice, but nothing mind boggling compared to my fantastic set from 10 years ago. Mind you have not played any games on it yet.

So yeh get it whenever you feel like it.

I'm considering upgrading to a 3440*1440P ultrawide monitor some time next year, but honestly I could go through the entire upcoming console cycle's worth of time staying on 1080P no problem. While my RX 5700 XT could competently play 4K at some reduced settings, I'm enjoying high frame rates at 1080P too much to consider it.

I am upgrading to a 4K TV soon but that has nothing to do with consoles, none of which will be connected to it anyway.

I was prepping to get my first 4K TV but now Microsoft have given me a whole bunch of reasons to invest in an XSX next gen(the Bethesda purchase),I will probably keep my 1080p Panasonic plasma and get PS5 and XSX instead.Perhaps get a 4K TV later in the gen.I didn't really want to get rid of my TV anyway it's a great set.

I got a C8 right now. I won't be able to enjoy the new HDMI 2.1 stuff like g-sync/free sync but its still nice for gaming.

Been waiting forever it seems like to upgrade my projector to a 4k one but finally did it to get ready for the next gen consoles. Have had a fun weekend learning about HDMI cable bandwidth restrictions after getting issues with my PS4 Pro outputting 4k/60 with HDR. Kept getting screen tearing or the screen blacking out on the Cold War beta, after some digging the issue seemed to be that my cables could not support 24Gbps needed for 2160p - RGB setting with HDR on at 60fps, HDMI 2.0 is 18Gbps.

So have got shiny new HDMI 2.1 cables (48Gbps), one of which was very expensive as I needed a 10m Fibre Optic HDMI to run to the projector. Guess what, didn't sort the issue. Damn PS4 Pro can't even output 4k/60 in RGB mode with HDR on as it's a HDMI 2.0 device so if HDR is on it needs to be in YUV mode. Can only use RGB mode with HDR off otherwise the bandwidth is too high for the PS4 Pro at 60fps, it's fine with 30fps though I think. I wouldn't mind but my PS4 keeps defaulting to 2160p - RGB with HDR which causes the blackouts so have to keep manually setting it to YUV for 4k/60 HDR. Hopefully the PS5/XSX is way more easier in this regard in that it just works without all the messing about.

I'm staying with my 1080p TV due to living situations really. If those were different I'd have bought a new TV.

Picked up a C9 in June for LOU2, GoT and next gen future proofing. Extremely happy with that decision. Improvement even for current gen is immense.

The PS4 Pro and Xbox One X got me to upgrade two and a half years ago so I've got a 4K OLED. At the time, I didn't really think the HDMI 2.1 features would be used on next gen and I feel like I went in a bit too early. I now want (but will hold off on for a couple of years) an HDMI 2.1 TV.

I'm gaming on a 1080p gaming projector.
I'm not going to go smaller with some small ass tv screen. So i've waited for a good 4K projector with little inout lag. I think i've found one so maybe i'll be pmayong on a 4K projector next year.
But downscaled 1080p on Ps4 looked great.

Why would you buy a new console if you don't have 4K TV?
Because there is not just a change in resolution...... wtf?

I'm hooking my PS5 up to my 1440p monitor so I do hope it supports that resolution

If not, 1080p it is

There's no HDR1000 HDMI 2.1 monitors out right now. I'll stick with my 1200p.

Will be sad to let 16:10 go tho.

I bought a 4K sony TV two years ago, i use a ps4 slim, so i can't wait to use its full potential with PS5 (netflix in 4k hdr is okay, but not mindblowing, in fact i fins some ps4 games at 1080p with HDR much more spectacular, so at 4K must be insane)

Yep I got a new 65" LG 4K OLED a few months ago and I love it. I bought a Sony W900a 55" 1080p in 2013 and it's been a great TV and served me well the last 7 years, but OLED/4K/HDR is a big step up.

Why would you buy a new console if you don't have 4K TV?

Consoles use downsampling these days... you don't need a 4K TV.

I got a new 4K TV (LG CX 48). Although 4K is amazing, I barely notice any difference between 1440p and 4K from normal viewing distance. 4K is pretty nice for movies but waste of resources for games, IMO. 1440p displays are more than enough for gaming

Both my 1080p TV and monitor are still kicking, so I'm not replacing them just yet. I still think 1080p is perfectly fine and looks fantastic, so no issue at all for me.

Already did in February. I was gaming in a small 32 inches tv anyway, and already had an X1X, so I switched to 49 inches 4k with HDR. Not gonna lie, it was fucking needed. I can't see getting into next gen console gaming (which I'm not for the moment) with a 1080p tv, without hdr, when you are already missing out on some games even without enhanced consoles. But yeah it was needed for me mostly because of tv size and having to rely on ps4's zoom feature every time I wanted to read some text collectible or access some inventory or menu.

I got a 4k tv last year when I still had a job, so I'm good on that front. Now I just need to find a new job to afford the actual console.

I bought a 4K TV this year during tax time in preparation for next gen.

All I have is a launch PS4, which doesn't output to 4K, so I haven't actually seen this bad boy in action.

Most likely gonna order my new Samsung TV today or tomorrow and I think my last Samsung (KS7090 4k) I bought hm 2? or 3 years ago?...didn't plan on upgrading that fast, but I just want VRR, 120hz 4k options, etc. in the hope that I might use it in some games ;) (or more like can use it).

Really don't see the point in buying into Next Gen if I only have a 1080p display. Main reason I didn't attempt to preorder anything. Even this current gen I'm putting off playing some games until I can get a better display, feels like a waste otherwise.

My 4K TV arrived yesterday, the XH90 55". Been watching 4K HDR content through Netflix and YT most of the night lol. Hell of an upgrade from my 2013 model 32" HD Bravia TV.

Ready for next gen gaming now, just need to secure my PS5. If Sony plans to have 5+ million systems before end of the year surely I should be able to buy one at launch or shortly after, as long as I have one before my Xmas Holidays.

get a Series S?

all next gen consoles will work just fine with 1080p screen. they will still render at higher resolutions but they will downsample to 1080p which will look cleaner than native 1080p you get out current gen consoles.

you don't need a 4K tv. the whole hdmi 2.1 is yet to be proven...the biggest benefit is 4k 120hz + VRR. not many games are gonna run at 4k 60hz nevermind 120hz. a hdmi 2.0 port will be enough for 4k 60hz. VRR is only really gonna be any use for games running at 40-120hz.

keep your 1080p tv and get a console when it has games you wanna play.

I'll probably get a Samsung Q90T on Black Friday, but won't be getting PS5 until sometime next year as where I live retailers estimate that stocks are fully sold out for the end of the year at least.

I've had a 4k for a while. I'll look to buy a 2.1 HDMI set once they become more standard and ubiquitous.

I wasn't... but our work is transitioning to Work From Home... I put my hand up to give the boardroom TV a home and they said yes! No cost!

65in, 4K + HDR compatible Samsung... its a 2017 model, so it's notcompleyely new with all the new features, but its nice enough to replace my 1080P Samsung that was bought before the PS4 came out

I am waiting to see what HDMI 2.1 will cost to upgrade my 1440p 144Hz non HDMI 2.0 Monitor. When there to expensive I maybe upgrade to HDMI 2.0 monitor to get 1440p 120Hz Support for Nextgen in some games. But hope DF will do a video about how usefull 1440p is on the series X.

I have a 4K TV but I dont want to play on a TV.
