Are Fighting Games the Skateboarding of Gaming?

Both seemed to get a huge jump in the mid to late 80's/early 90's, the skill required to be really good at it is pretty high compared to other games/sports, tournaments get held in weird locales like some guy's empty pool or some guy's bathroom, there's an insane amount of terminology to learn that sounds like gibberish to anyone outside the loop, and they both have trouble getting recognized as legitimate sports by really old people. Skateboarding didn't get into the olympics until next year, and people are still pissed about gaming being on espn

Fighting games are the Sex of gaming. Everyone likes the idea of it, but not many people know how to do it well, and they blame the other person.

It's worth noting that Tony Hawk considers the rebirth of skating to be '92-'95, which is also around the time fighting games got big, with SFII, MK, Samurai Showdown, etc. coming in

NO. It's embarrassing to suggest as much.

Skateboarding is fucking hard and fucking dangerous. There is nothing in gaming as whole (let alone the fighting game niche) that even compares to trying to learn a flip trick and racking yourself in the groin multiple times until you get it right or trying to learn how to drop in on a vert (pool or ramp) only to be unsuccessful a hundred times (and eating shit or literally running down a ramp without your board). There's a reason why it's classified as an extreme sport.

Have you ever had the fucking cops called on you for playing a god damn video game in a no video game zone?

Is there a fucking such thing an actual illegal video game zone?

When the greatest injury you could suffer is the same as that in a desk job, you shouldn't be comparing the two.

Take your carpal tunnel risk toys and compare them to something else.
