This was kind of an impulse decision, but I sold my One X and Pro a few weeks ago along with all physical games, controllers, & accessories.

Simply put, I have too many games and have amassed a sizable digital library/backlog over the years. I'm also approaching thirty and have become jaded to the AAA release cycle and all the baggage it comes with (Hype, Release, Reviews, Live service).

Overall, I'm already feeling better about this decision. It was the hardest thing ever to let go of my One X and I'll admit that I felt the withdrawals of not getting to play any big AAA games anymore, especially with a bunch of new titles coming out, but at the same time I feel like this has opened up my free time to pursue my other hobbies. Right now my source of gaming entertainment purely resides with my Switch and Pokemon, and I have been playing that at a leisurely pace without the stresses of a huge backlog that I feel the need to complete, bothering me in the back of my mind.

But this wasn't mean to be a rant thread at all tbh, I'm well aware that people go through phases and that's perfectly fine. I just wanted to know if anyone else here has kinda just sold/let go of their precious gaming hardware/software all at once and started fresh.

I will next gen. I'm going to wait for the PS5 revision and hold out with my PC and my Switch, playing smaller games like Planet Zoo and Cities Skylines.

More power to you. Whatever makes you feel happy, that's what you should do.

That being said, I feel blessed that I don't feel some overarching pressure to complete my backlog. I'm pumped to know that I will probably have something to play whenever I want for the rest of my life.

That's great that this was the right decision for you! This isn't me at all, however. I'm 32 and the only way I'd sell my PS4 and Switch is if I hit some serious financial dire straits. Which, in fact, happened to me with all my consoles and just about everything else that I owned back when I was 19, and I never want to go through that again.

But who knows, maybe someday I'll feel equally jaded about stuff!

I've regretted selling consoles in the past so I have decided not to ever sell a console again. It felt right at the time because I would have the "Oh I wont play these again" thought, and it always turned out to be wrong.

I am not selling any game or hardware unless I absolutely have to due to financial strain. I will never play everything I have and that is okay, shit I bought Pokemon today and it probably has a 10% chance of actually getting played.

Nah, I've never felt good about selling a console, honestly. I have two consoles, one was a gift that a friend of mine gave me, and I'm sure I'll get around to the Switch.

I have no reason to sell my consoles, and as I'm all digital now, the only space taken up is the console and controllers.

I just take a break. I legit did not turn my PS4 on for MONTHS up until Death Stranding. And likely after finishing it, it'll go back to being shut off.

I still feel sad every now and then that I sold my SNES and all my games for it - and it's been about 20 years since I did so. Feel no regrets about selling my N64 and its games, though (which I did at the exact same time).

At the time, it was everything I had, effectively (can't remember if it was right before or right after the PS2 launched that I did this).

I always regret selling consoles, unless it's being replaced or unnecessary to keep playing the games (PS1, Wii)

I do think it was wise to disengage for a bit if you feel you are getting too caught up in the pointless stuff that comes with the hobby, though.

Also all digital. I like that my consoles are there for when I want to play something.

I don't usually have the time but when I do it's great.

This is me. My gaming time and satisfaction has gone WAY down over even the past couple of years. But I'd never sell my consoles. I may end up scaling down for next gen, though. Or maybe not - there always seems to be that ONE game that makes me buy a console...

I could probably sell my switch and Xbox one. I have Game Pass Ultimate and a great PC so I'm definitely cutting down next gen. Will probably just be a PS5

Considering selling my PS4 Pro whilst the prices are still good. Recently dug up my PSP and PS2 and I'm starting to think I'd be satisfied for years just going through all the things I missed or left incomplete from back then

I'll be doing this as soon as I've got the platinum in shenmue 3.

Just gonna stick with my dreamcast & saturn as I enjoy those games more and they're far more suited to short burst play which fits in amazingly with the 2-3 hours a week that I typically play these days.

Not selling my Pro until either Sony or any of the big retailers start offering trade-in programs for the PS5.

Two years ago I decided to buy and play one game at time (in modern platforms anyway. I did buy Genesis mini and I'm currently playing MWIV). I have a giant whislist on PS4 and Switch but I don't care. I'll finish Ori on Switch and my next game will be the 2017 masterpiece, REVII.

This is definitely something I'm trying to do more, not because of my backlog but because I'm overwhelmed trying to keep up with the sheer amount of games, tv shows, movies, etc that come out as well as keep up my other hobbies like coding.

I sold my gaming PC two years ago and don't miss it at all. I have my laptop which I run Linux on and can only run lighter games, so it keeps me focused more on development. Sold my PS4, still have the X1X but almost never turn it on. All I play now is Switch and I play through way more games than I used to and have gotten around to beating some retro games on the SNES that I've always meant to get around to. It's easier for me to just remove the option instead of constantly pivoting to a shiny new game because I don't want to miss out.

I'm thinking I won't buy a PS5 or NextBox for a couple years after launch, if ever. I'm perfectly content with my Switch and am thinking about grabbing a 3DS in the near future.

Nah I'm in my thirties and I would never do that, so more power to ya.

At the same time I never feel overwhelmed with what to play and whatnot, so that probably helps.

I practiced it for 5 years. Only had a Wii U/3DS and then the Switch. No AAA games to speak of beyond Mario and Zelda. I was going to buy a PS4 for Uncharted 4 but then the news that Amy Hennig was fired and the team behind The Last of Us, a game I personsally was not as fond of as everyone else, made me wait. I enjoyed it at first but by the end was desperate to play things. Nintendo basically flipping the bird to Wii U owners by porting everything over but limited new games, I bought an Xbox One for Red Dead and Obsidian's future games. Spent the last yeat playing catch up and fell in love with Xbox's IP in the process. I never had one so I caught up on Gears, Fable, Forza, Crackdown and found myself really satisfied. I plan on sticking with Xbox as their IPs are more diverse and personally appealing, and I'm not in a position to invest in a Gaming PC and do it right.

Not only have I stopped selling video game stuff, but most electronics altogether, just too many scam attempts or shady/cheap people to deal with. I have given up on the concept of a "backlog" though. Now I only play something when I feel like it or just move on.

I'm not selling my PS4, but I'm certainly not getting a PS5 or an Xbox Scarlet. Considering that my backlog stretches to PS3/360 gen and I still get a lot out of those games (God of War III on PS3 still holds up today), then it'll be awhile before I move to the upcoming gen.

I appreciate your ability to identify what you want here and commit to it, despite feeling (understandable) misgivings.

Switch offers quite a diverse range of quality content, it's great to have right now.

To cover lotsa additional bases I'd say the only other platform needed is a PC. Between many high-profile games coming to Steam/etc. and the ever-advancing world of emulation, all one needs to access a majority (imo) of desired game experiences is a decent-spec PC.

A long-term goal of mine (because I've intended to for 10 years but haven't summoned the energy to follow through yet) is to sell 90% of my consoles and almost all the physical games. The existence of high-quality emulation has made that goal much easier to be at peace with because it means I can always revisit a treasured past experience when desired.

I'm cutting my collection in about half. Already sold off my Dreamcast hardware and accessories and PSP hardware and accessories, and I'm currently in the process of doing the same with my GBA and Xbox 360 collections.

In the end I'm just gonna have Wii & Wii U games (Playable on my Wii U) DS & 3DS games (Playable on my 3DS) Famicom & NES games (Playable on my RetroUSB AVS) and my Switch.

In time as I finish off games I'll probably reduce my Wii and DS libraries to the essentials as well.

Nope, not me. Not really obsessive compulsive where I MUST play all new games or whatever.

I'm playing Cold Steel 3 right now. Then I'll move onto Death Stranding, control, etc.

I'm in no rush. Nor do I really delve into aaa hype or whatever you said op.

Just play what I'm interested as they come.

No, I just don't play if I don't want to, no matter how big my backlog is.

Life is stressful enough.

Yeah. I sold my PS2 and 20 games when I was 12. Got a Gamecube with only 5 games before getting a Wii and PS3 and I've been stacking up ever since. I'm heavily in "game-stress" nowadays and I've considered parting ways with PS4 and PS3 when next gen hits.

But at the same time I have memories on PS3 that are really strong that I wouldn't be without. For whatever reason I never looked back selling my PS2 even giving up on my favorites like Jak 2 and Rayman 3.

Because both my One X and Pro are limited editions I'm selling them both while they have value. I'm rocking a friends base PS4 until PS5 and bought a Gears One X for an amazing price when CoD came out.

I'm actually glad the Switch consolidated the portable/console gaming market (excluding Mobile games which I play). At one point I had PS4, PSVR, Vita, 3DS, Wii U/Switch, and a gaming capable PC. I've since sold the WiiU, 3DS, PSVR, and Vita and have let the gaming PC slowly fade into uselessness.

If Sony and Nintendo keep their models for a few gens I think I'll be rocking a Sony console and a Nintendo hybrid from here on out. I'm very tempted to pick up a Xbox One S just to play Ori 2 when it hits but I'll dump it as soon as I complete it.

I never felt like I had to play every game, and still don't, but I am spending a lot less on games that I don't complete.

The past few years I've approached games with the "I'll wait till they're $30" approach and it turns into a 50/50 purchase. But I still have Day 1 games I will still purchase. FF7R, DOOM:E and TLOU2 fur sure. Just play at your own pace and control your purchases. PC/PS4 is my combo of choice and it works out super nice.

I wouldn't go that far but I'm definitely going to scale back my purchasing moving forward and only buy games I'm actually going to play right away. Too many times I'd see something on sale and grab it thinking "I'll get to this eventually".

I've gotten to very little.

Honestly, I may not even buy a console next gen.

Planning on having more kids, and if Wild Rift / Runeterra / xCloud all hit right then a 2020 iPhone will likely be all I want to play on.

I just don't see any amount of time where I'd boot up a console in front of my TV / sit down at a gaming PC.

All of my machines serve distinct, well defined purposes. Switch is portable, PC is powerful, flexible and always backwards compatible and PS4 Pro is very easy (for bad ports or when the PC simply refuses to cooperate) and has a bunch of japanese exclusives I can't live without.

I'm all digital so there's actually very little physical space taken. Also, my backlog really ain't that large. Always been selective about the games I buy.

Sold my ps4 pro and xbox one x as well but I still have access to my pc and switch so im pretty much just waiting for next gen, and honestly though I probably wont buy them at launch for the first time since ps2. I think this gen we see every game come to pc even Sony's eventually. Not nintendo games but I only play pokemon really Ive never been to into nintendos stuff.

I feel this. I got a Pro before the One X for Spider-Man, and I regret it. Spider-Man was a great game but Ill probably just never play through it again since I have so many other options. Once Sony started doing their cross-play bullshit with Fornite, I completely lost all interest in supporting Sony ever again. PS4 just sits there and collects dust. Its sad because I never finished Persona 5 and I doubt itll ever leave Sony hardware, but just not worth it. I'll probably be offloading my Pro soon while its still got decent value and picking up Death Stranding on PC. Here's hoping Last of Us 2 also hits PC eventually. And if it doesnt, then I guess Ill watch a Lets Play.

I've kept every video game I've ever owned, because honestly the resale value is just not that great on any of it and I'd rather just keep it all.
