Red Dead Redemption 2, for sure. Both SuperHOT's too.

From the small taster I had, Disco Elysium is a shoe in.

Katana Zero seems like it would be, but I haven't played it at all. 😆

I don't actually have a set top 10 in mind, but these feel top 10 worthy at least:

1. Hollow Knight
2. Celeste
3. Slay the Spire

Resident Evil 7 in PSVR is sort of a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me, akin to seeing Mario 64 in person for the first time.

I'd put RE7 PSVR in my top 10, for sure. I also loved Inside, Superhot VR, Titanfall 2, Uncharted 4, God of War, Doom, and a few others, but nothing immediately comes to mind like Resident Evil 7 in PSVR.

Xenoblade 2. I haven't done my list in a while, though. This is what it looked like last time I did it a few years ago. Some games I flip flop too much on so I put them both.

1) Final Fantasy XI
2) Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island
3) Legend of Mana
4) Pokemon (Ultra)Sun & (Ultra) Moon / Pokemon Black 2 White 2
5) Animal Crossing: New Leaf
6) Diablo II
7) Earthbound / Mother 3
8) Ico
9) Nier: Gestalt
10) Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Xenoblade 2 definitely earned its spot and is cemented directly into my top 10, though. As time passes I only feel more fondly towards it. Another game I adored this generation is Red Dead Redemption 2 and I could see a scenario where it makes it into my top 10.

God of War

It's partly because it's a really good game and partly because I have never seen a reboot work so well. It's a job I would never wish on my enemies. They had to do a major refresh of the game because the original gameplay and atmosphere has become very boring (after some 6 games?), but they also had to satisfy the original fanbase while making a good character out of Kratos. There is no reality where I expected them to succeed with all of that.

Instead of a trainwreck, we got a game that took the best ideas of modern games, stuck to it's metroidvania roots, straight out all new characters were quintessentially God of War but better, and the sole old character, Kratos, was given so much depth in a single game that retroactively made the old games better.

Also they managed to fuck everyone over with the nostalgia (those who played it through now exactly what I'm thinking of), which manifested in the most cathartic few minutes on last gen.

Cory is a god.

No I don't think so. Maybe THPS 1+2 sneaks in.
It's been a solid generation but it hasn't had many true standouts for me.

DKTF and Smash Ultimate both did. Also, idk if this counts, but for Crash 2 I mainly think of the remake version. I think both versions are great and could be on my top 10, but I'm sure the remake version of Crash 2 is.

DKTF is #4 for me, Smash Ultimate is #5, and Crash 2 is #8.

My top 10 rn is

1. Pac Man Adventures in Time
2. Pac Man World 2
3. Donkey Kong Country Returns
4. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze
5. Smash Bros Ultimate
6. Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
7. Super Monkey Ball 2
8. Crash 2
9. Jak 3
10. Pac Man World 3

Breath of the Wild for sure. I'd need to take the time to actually look and make the list, but God of War and Mario Odyssey are other possibilities.

Dishonored 2 for me.

As a series, Forza Horizon and Hitman (edit: and Yakuza) reached "No previews needed, will play the next one" status.

Bloodborne, Witcher 3 and Dragon Quest XI for me. Possibly Dragon Age: Inquisition, with it and a few others definitely in the top 20 if not.

Witcher 3 definitely did. I think TLOU Part 2 probably would too but I'd have to sit down and think about it.

Bloodborne, Yakuza 0, Persona 5 Royale and maybe even Hitman. The Witcher 3 used to be on there, but I feel less and less about it as each year passes.

I don't know what my Top 10 looks like off the top of my head, but Breath of the Wild and Hollow Knight are unquestionably on that list. I'd rate both games as 10/10's and the only other games I know off the top of my head that I'd do the same with are Okami, TTYD, and maybe Yoshi's Island. Unreal that the games came out a week apart.

The other games from last gen that I'd rate extremely high that I wouldn't be super surprised make my Top 10 are Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Celeste, and Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth.

Wonderful 101. Played on Wii U, not sure if it counts as last gen.

Maybe Bloodborne got into my top 10, or close to it. Nier Automata, XC2 and Splatoon 2 got at least in top 30.

A few did, but overall I feel like there was a lot of great games but almost all were held back by really annoying blemishes (Usually with bad launch state, Monitization schemes or bad post-launch support)
  • Killer Instinct
  • Red Dead Redemption 2
  • Elite Dangerous
  • Total War: Warhammer 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 might be the best game I've ever played, so that's definitely in my top ten.

This got me thinking as to what my top 10 actually were.

Current top ten (that I can think of at the the moment) in no specific order:

Final Fantasy VII
The Last of Us Part 2
God of War (2018)
Metal Gear Solid
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Hollow Knight
Bloodborne
The Secret of Monkey Island
Resident Evil Remake
Mass Effect 2

Final Fantasy VII Remake needs to be in there but I'm unsure who to kick out lol.

But that makes.. 4 or 5 this gen that are in there.

My current top 10, listed in release order w/ games from Wii U/PS4/XBO bolded:

Super Mario Bros. 3
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Phantasy Star Online
Metroid Prime
Final Fantasy XII
BioShock
Super Mario Galaxy
Xenoblade Chronicles
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Hollow Knight

That said, I've got tons of runner-ups from the last 7 years including Nintendo Land, Pikmin 3, Super Mario 3D World, Bloodborne, The Witness (Jon Blow is shit btw), Sonic Mania, Celeste, Baba is You, Gris, and Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Haven't really tried to nail down a top 10 of all time before but I did throw together a 4x4 recently which included
Yakuza 0
Kingdom Hearts 3
Danganronpa V3
Undertale
Devil May Cry 5
Dragon Quest XI
Shovel Knight Treasure Trove
Persona 5 Royal
Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2
Ys VIII Lacrimosa of Dana
Super Mario Odyssey
Bloodstained Ritual of the Night

So yeah considering that's 12 things I'd say this gen has been pretty good for me personally.

Minneapolis
Forza Horizon 3/4
God of War,
Halo 5 multiplayer added to my just all-time fave franchise.
Destiny 1/2 as a whole.

Slay the Spire and Hades perhaps.

Most fun I had the whole gen was probably OG Titanfall though. Hard to put in there due to longevity issues but man was that fun.

Red Dead 2 and Nier Automata had such good stories it shook me forever. Control just had a style that I haven't experienced in a very long time.

Definitely Bloodborne, God of War, Yakuza 0 and Stardew Valley. Possibly some more too, I'll have to actually make a fresh top 10 list to be sure.

Not sure I have an actual 'top 10', but Overwatch, Bloodborne, and Hollow Knight would probably be closest.

Crash Team Racing, Prey, Alien Isolation, and Resident Evil 2 were also very good.

My top 10 has massively changed in recent years. Undertale, Breath of the Wild, House in Fata Morgana, Nier Automata, and Outer Wilds made it in this past gen, and there were a couple more changes at the tail end of gen 7 as well.

I've been playing games since forever, but in the last decade it's felt like there have been more games "for me" than ever before.

Bloodborne I think would be the only one. First start to finish Soulsbourne experience, really is the standard for me in those type of games.

I don't hold a super solid goatntip ten list so not sure but off the top of my head, I definitely think BoTW would have a good shot. Ori, Sekiro, TLG and Doom 2016 are all pretty much perfect games too. I don't really want to open this can of worms though, mentally 😂

Super Mario Odyssey and Spider-Man.

Still got quite a few games from the previous generation to playthrough, but those 2 left the biggest impact on me personally.

not really. last gen was filled with disposable experiences

my top games are highly replayable (eg. quake 3, civilization IV, rise of nations). if i make space for other stuff, it would probably have to be some groundbreaking leap for the genre (or invent a genre) which just doesn't happen compared now compared to the something like the early 3D era

maybe magic the gathering or one of its clones would make my list (because of drafting), but it's hard to assign a release date to the concept of booster draft

Most of them are just replacements. They don't really alter the list all that much. Mostly because I don't really like having multiples of the same franchise in my top 10.

So God of war replaced GOW3
Last of us part 2 replaced last of us
Uncharted 4/lost legacy replaced uncharted 2
Bloodborne replaced demon's souls

Got some older titles in there still like MGS1 and flashback. But generally I find newer games are better.

One completely new entry would be divinity 2. Co-op RPG perfection.
