Are armor packs going to be really different armors or just the same armor but with different colors?

Yeah, Destiny is obviously better as it's a FPS.
Why would or should a 3rd person game feel different than a FPS when it comes to gunplay? I mean yeah sure, you are not aiming the gun but the camera in a 3rd person game but the weapon feedback could still feel great. Think Max Payne 3 or Gears of War for example.

Had and absolute blast on this over the weekend with my friends. Yes infinite loading screen sucked and other server issues but putting them aside I was more than happy with the core gameplay. Love all the classes and all feel very different:

Colossus was an absolute powerhouse and once I had all the right components for it it just turns into a wrecking machine. Gameplay wise I like how you have no shields so have to stay in the thick of the action slaying everything in site to get the health pickup off the floor to stay alive. I rolled shotgun/auto cannon with it and was constantly detonating explosive combos with my specials.

Did they just unlock everything near the end as last night we finished a mission and it let us unlock the rest of the classes so I set up a Interceptor loadout with the intention of having a quick go and then trying Storm but never got round to it as it was just so much fun.

Interceptor though, wow after playing for hours on end as a Colossus I was not ready for the speed and agility that it had. So good being able to fly around fights nipping in and out in a never ending flurry of combo detonation death. I rolled shotgun and machine pistol but in all honesty I barely used my guns as melee was so much run. Thinking sniper/shotgun might be a good combo for it as when I tried sniper on the ranger it was great but ammo was too limited. With this class you barely do any shooting so that wouldn't be so much of an issue so you can wreck from afar with snipe when needed and got melee/shotgun for everything else to replen ammo for it if needed.

Didn't get to try Storm but one of my friends in our group claimed it and he loved it once he figured out how to play the class. He just turned into an elemental machine priming combos for us to rush around and detonate in rapid succession.

The classes work really well together when you play as a team and it's great that you can easily switch between them and have loads of varied loadouts and customisation options. There is a huge gap between people who can play a class well and work together as a team compared to people who just lone wolf it on your squad. When you work together and are all using your skills right it crazy how once difficult sections suddenly become so easy and how quick you can dispatch once troublesome foes.

Was going to buy Anthem and the Division 2 but really starting to question why I need Division 2 when I can see this easily keeping me busy for months to come.

There's armor packs, and there's armor vinyls. The former gives totally different models, the latter only gives different colors. You can actually unlock an armor pack for each javelin in the demo, costing 25 coins for each part (head, arms, and legs).

Hmm, I don't quite get it. What kind of feedback are you referring to? Like recoil? Because I can feel enough recoil in Anthem. Combined with controller vibrations, shooting gives enough feedback for me.

Didn't know that. 75 coins for full armor then? Going to try that this Friday, I think I have 150 coins.

I actually disagree on the loot, but just for one reason: abilities. Playing with a Storm, my ability drops completely changed how I played the class in moment to moment encounters, and that to me was amazing. Additionally, I was playing with a buddy who was also a Storm, and our abilities were totally different because of the drops we got. That, to me, is fucking rad.

Sounds cool, but that's not my experience with the demo. Probably because of bad luck with the loot drops.
Aside the actual loot, the way it is presented is not exciting at all.

The gunplay feels way weaker than in the Division. Weapons in the Division pack a punch and have "weight". Enemies also stagger and give visual feedback when getting hit. Shooting in Anthem is just looking at a depleting bar.

I've already canceled my annual renewal of Origin Premiere after what a buggy unfinished shitshow BF V turned out to be.

Anthem has until the end of my sub to convince me to re-sub. The state of this demo is concerning.

Beginning to think Frostbite just isn't a very good engine. Looks pretty but every single Frostbite game in recent memory has been so unbelievably buggy.

At least on consoles Frostbite is not very good, has texture streaming problems, everytime you load into an area you see textures loading in, every Frostbite game that i have played on console had this problem. i don´t think the engine is fitting for a game like Anthem at all, it is too demanding on consoles.

My PS4 was suffering the whole time I played.

Yup.

Here's the default Ranger armor parts.

And here's the unlockable parts.

Edit: Actually, the chest parts are reversed in those images. Bottom ranger has default part, while the top one uses the unlocked part.

Okay so my thoughts having played about 5-6 hours of the demo over the weekend on PS4 Slim:

- Graphics: was initially a little disappointed, but that was always going to be the case versus the Ultra PC footage released. The performance at certain points was also bothering me, particularly during some of the bigger boss fights. However, turning off all the graphical options (DoF, motion blur etc) really seemed to make things feel/run a lot better and didn't have any issues after that. Some areas were absolutely gorgeous such as the Stronghold and in free play the area with the big mushroom trees. I don't know if anyone else had this but I felt like the blacks were really weird, like it was borderline impossible to see at some stages. Underwater is a nightmare and boils down to find the glowing plants and hope for the best!

- Sound: amazing, everything sounds great to me. The javelin noises are badass for taking off, sprinting etc. Played with a Colossi teammate last night for the first time and him taking off sounds SICK, seems to be a real difference in sound between the 4 javelins for various actions. Guns sound weighty and with punch, same with abilities.

- Quests/missions: found the voice acting and dialogue really, really cheesy (played with Male character, not sure if Female is any better?) and obviously it's hard to connect with NPC's and missions that are mid way into the game as far as I'm aware. The actual objectives were pretty dull on the whole but there were some cooler ones scattered within such as the Stronghold section where you have to pick up stuff and can't fly once picked up. This lead to some nice sort of team escort mechanics to help others back to the relic to drop them off.

- Tarsis: just felt weird to be honest, movement speed criminally slow, felt empty (I know this is subject to change as you go through the story). It might feel bit better when you can talk to all the NPC's and do more there. Performance on OG PS4 is baaaad too, it's like a PP presentation when you go out into the market lol.

- Javelins/gameplay: Started off as Ranger (obviously) and enjoyed it, spent some time in Free Play first of all getting used to the flight controls etc. then delved into match made questing which worked nicely (loading bug aside!). Started off on normal before quickly moving up to Hard which felt a lot better challenge wise. I have to say though that it a lot of the time it didn't feel clear I was about to get smoked, guess a lot of stuff one/two shots on harder difficulties, especially in the lighter javelins like Interceptor (which is what I moved onto from Ranger). Once I got the hang of the controls the game is an absolute blast to play at times. Last night for instance in the Stronghold where you have to deliver the orbs and it's an open arena with turrets on cliffs? I was flying around the outskirts and got targeted by a turret laser, I evade rolled and dodged the missile, stopped and threw my glaives into it while I hovered then started flying again through the exploding turret before landing and meleeing a bunch of snipers. It was beautiful, I can imagine when people really get a mastery of the controls we're gonna see some insane stuff from the different javelins.

- Bugs: it'd be unfair to leave this out, I was luckier than some in getting onto the game past the loading screen bug but this was super annoying. I had a lot of disappearing enemies, some weird stuff going on with dark spaces as above (I tried turning HDR on/off but was same) and at one point during stronghold our 4th player who was holding the final orb disconnected and we were left unable to progress, had to quit the whole expedition and restart.

Summary: Loved what I played, especially once I moved onto Interceptor which seemed to gel a lot more with my play style. Roll on Friday!

with certain weapons the gunplay was meh. But once i found some weapons i liked I enjoyed the gunplay.
Gotta remember we're using Rare Blue weapons. Which is the same tier as Destiny's Rare Blues. Which u could probably go on Destiny Reddit right now and find a thread about wanting to autodismantle blues as trash loot lol. If all u played in Destiny was with green and blue weapons u wouldn't be too keen on the guns in that game.

i want them to spice up the loot drop tho. That weird lil triangle doesn't do it for me. Like ok, i can maybe tolerate that u can't get ur loot till the end "reward screen" kinda thing. But at least tell me what type of weapon i got. Say "Rare Shotgun"...."Common Sniper".

I had the chance the play with all the other Javelins after my initial impressions (of only the Ranger). Holy s***t, they all play quite differently. I really like that. Going to be a lot of fun probably mastering all the Javelins. I can see now, after playing Storm, that the aim was to go for a Diablo kind of feel. The game turned into a firework orgasm when we did the Spider boss with 2 storms, 1 Colussus and 1 Interceptor. I was impressed.

If they iron out the bugs and have enough content, this game will be a hit IMHO.

Yeah, that's totally understandable. To me, I found the Ranger to be a rather boring class, but I generally don't like Bioware's "soldier" class. The storm felt great, and I found myself floating above the battlefield raining death down, and sniping here and there.

My friend played the colossus, and seemed to really like that. It's just a shame you can't trade loot.

Yeah, I played with a group of friends that each chose different classes, and it was really cool to see how they all worked together. It was very impressive. All rangers feels like a weaker Destiny, but when you have a Storm, an Interceptor, and a Colossus in the mix, the "real" design philosophy behind the game started to show its hand more.

That said, I think starting everyone with a Ranger is a design mistake. If you got to choose your first javelin, you'd be able to show off the gameplay diversity far earlier. I suspect some people will play the Ranger, feel that's the way all the classes play, find it boring, and move on to something else.

Was definitely ready for bed after putting quite some hours into this over the weekend and then finally getting into a couple of hard freeplays with friends at long last (it never happened all Friday and Saturday on ps4 despite trying the workarounds), but then they unlocked the other javelins and I had to go gear them up. Already had most of the gear to make them usable, so didn't need to stay up into the small hours again.

Going to use other accounts and do it all again next weekend :D

- The loot and the loot drops are boring. Also not being able to see what you got until the end of the mission is stupid. Getting loot has to be one of the most pleasing things in a looter shooter and it's awful in Anthem.
Nah, not boring for me, the weapon pool on offer might have been small and their perks were clearly not all implemented correctly (having two 0% stat buffs on a nice rare was :( :( ), but the level of customisation possible thanks to the array of build possibilities they offer was nicely surprising. I saw the devs talk this up in the streams, but I expected it to be far more trivial and Destiny-like, where that side of things makes too little difference generally.

You know what would be cool? Having Tarsis built on the top/edge of a cliff and the javelin station was on a balcony right on the edge and when you get in it you could jump off and start flying into the game world rather than fade to black and into a menu selection screen. Yes I know I'm probably beating a dead horse but god it feels like a massive missed opportunity. Imagine when you're done wrecking shit you just fly up and land on the balcony, watch your friends come flying in and then you all get out and immediately start selling/upgrading/etc.

That has to have been the original plan, there's probably very little left of what would have made this game live up to the "Dylan" name, but still, what is there will definitely be good enough for me. Maybe in another decade or so looter shooters really will be that seamless.

The mobility and quick combo potential of the Ranger, which leads to some excellent single target damage. I think the combo stuff for the colossus is better due to AoE but for nuking down bosses or elites, Ranger is great.

I am sad that the demo ended. Probably the most excited I've been for a game since W3. Had a fun time with the guns + abilities, loved Tarsis and the dialogues.. can't wait

I see already people saying the Storm is to strong and should be nerfed. Please dont make this game another Destiny. Instead of nerf, buff up the other classes.

All these youtubers saying "the graphics are amazing" - what game are they playing? I mean ones playing on console say it...what?

Even on PC - it looks ok - but come on. On console its a mess.

Agreed. So what is a class is better than the others, it's all pretty subjective with the level of gear we have access to.

Barely had chance to play as it didn't work much for me - but having played it - I think Storm might be a dull one to play? It was likely to be my choice pre-game but now - I think the more agile the more fun? But I only managed to play for 2 hours and didn't get to unlock anything or new javelins....

There's a thread on Reddit saying exactly this, don't nerf Storm but buff the rest and I kinda agree. It's a PVE game, don't nerf a class. It was pretty clear to me that the vast majority of people were playing Storm this weekend.

Nerfing and buffing are how balancing works, folks. I've never understood the "only buff" mentality...

Totally agree. The Storm may be a touch OP in squads, however I was out by myself doing some random free roam stuff, If you're a Storm alone who wants to try a world event that features a ton of enemies, its almost impossible. Its only really OP when you have a team to draw the enemies attention from you.

If there's one that's weak or one that's too strong, it's more likely you'll see outliers get brought into line with the pack. Because it's a lot easier (and avoids the snowballing effect) of always fixing imbalance through buffs.
Why even nerf in a PvE game...
So that people who don't want to play the standout powerhouse don't feel compelled to, either socially or through path of least resistance?

Slightly offtopic....... I'm impatient and after this demo I am looking for a looter shooter type thing to play right now, is Destiny 2 forsaken my best option for the next few weeks?

To be on topic I thought the graphics on the X looked pretty damn good - would rather it was 60fps but hopefully that's an option in the full game?

Do we know for certain whether EA Access will get you the usual 10 hours gameplay at launch on XB1? I have a feeling I'll enjoy this for a little while, but I'd really like to spend a chunk of time on it before committing the cash.

I have tried Warframe on 4 or 5 occasions but there is something about the loot I just couldn't get into. I loved HOW it played but it didn't spark joy (hoho) in the Diablo looty sparkly part of my brain.

I did play base Destiny 2 but fell off pretty much as soon as I hit the max level (whatever it was back then), can't really remember why.

I'd think it's due to being a slower burn in terms of loot. You're not generally going directly for new items, but resources or blueprints that will, in turn, let you get new items.

Though mods can be kinda thrilling. Those gold ones are always cool.

Looking at the framerate tests. Its looks the biggest problem is optimization and not that the consoles cant handle it. Also the frametiming isnt helping the feeling also. It has some weird drops in weird moments it shouldnt drop
