Damn. I thought their cloud save solution for AC was already like this. Was it only announced and now it is released?

Well, anyway, that is better than nothing. Still worse than just enabling cloud saving.

ACNH needs some new terraforming options more than anything (well, maybe not more than a ton more furniture). Bridges that can span cliffs, new bridge types, natural ramps, more path types, unlock the fourth level, add a basement level, add the building types from New Leaf, outdoor rugs, hang things on walls, that sort of thing.

I don't quite know when it happened, as I did used to quite enjoy this model, but man I really hate this drip feeding content / 'service' game thing.

It's seeming more and more likely we won't be getting new buildings in any updates but instead just expansions to existing ones. I still hope we get something like Tortimer Island added since that wouldn't be a new building. Either by adding Kapp'n at the dock or adding a new option at Dodo Airlines similar to the Harv's island option.

It very clearly does. Especially with items of the same variant, too. There's so many items, but it definitely feels pre-seeded to show the same colors of the same ones over and over.
To get items of other colors, you pretty much have to visit friends. I don't think the color variation is something they see as a bug or something to fix.

Utterly insane that this game still has fewer furniture items than NL had at launch, and that's including the 160 fish and bug models. For anyone wondering why the selection at Nook's is so repetitive and limited, that's why. There's fewer furniture items in the game overall, a larger chunk of those items than usual are exclusive from NPCs, and ANOTHER chunk is taken out as being DIY-exclusive. The selection left over for the shop is tiny, which is probably why they haven't bothered adding another shop upgrade yet. They even intentionally designed it so color variants will never appear in the shop and you have to either go online or get lucky with balloons and such to collect all the recolors

Best part of the trailer was the backup island part, it's not ideal (when is it ever with Nintendo it seems? >:| ) but it's something at least.

Are we in the SH just gonna have fireworks during the snowstorms? lol. Weird.

Really wish they'd add the Nintendo items back, why take out that sorta stuff? I loved collecting them. :( Like they don't want Animal Crossing associated with other Nintendo things for some reason.

Great mind think alike, I need this function like badly as well as the character transfer to another system

And more inclines and bridges. 8 each is not enough T_T

Agreed fully. I had 8 at one point and demolished everything on the fact that it ruined this idea I had and i couldn't figure out how to make it work. I wish Nintendo gave us more freedom with letting us do what we want with the island, let us build endless bridges, inclines, and allow us to be creative with different aspects.

I just hate how town services is killing the layout of my island.

Island system transfer Latter this year. It'll be nice for me as I've been playing on a Switch Lite and I'd like to play it on a TV for a little while. As long as they don't make it a one-time transfer limit, I'll try it.

Made me laugh but true. They can really make you want to pull out your hair. Some decisions they make are mind blowing how a company so seasoned and able can just willingly make horrible decisions for their consumers. 🤯🤬

Yea also dont forget we have the Lego NES console to look forward too... Nintendo on Fire lol.

Should I be stocking turnips now to backup my island. Whats the going rate?

Il buy it at a high price. Etc

I'm not enjoying how they're drip-feeding us features that were available Day 1 in the previous games. Literally the only thing new in this update is...a shitty backup feature. Uh, thanks, I guess. The fireworks sure are purdy though.

I just want some new buildings to pad out my downtown area, but it seems clear now we're not going to be getting any more which is disappointing. I guess I'll just have to set up some fake buildings using panels and cliffs.

I wonder if they accidentally broke the item randomness in a recent update. Kind of like the balloon items broke before.
Nope, it's always been this way. And even previous games had a group of items that you would be assigned, and anything outside of that group was either exceedingly rare or only obtainable from other players. It's all intentional.

Hopefully let us make a mini island to separate and have town services, museum, tailor, cranny, and villager away from the town. Pisses me off they take a chunk of my much needed spaces. Well if you can choose how to design your villagers inside then it'll be a bit better I guess lol

Better than nothing, but behind a paywall is just hideous and anti consumer.
It is also extremely limited and having to contact them... Lol

This. Why am I even paying for online?

The lack of true cloud saves is inexcusable but this logic doesn't make much sense.

You're paying $20 a year for online play and a Netflix-esque streaming service for NES and SNES games.

If you don't play online multiplayer and you don't care about the NES or SNES games, you should be cancelling.

Crazy that they didn't have fireworks in for the 4th of July. This year especially when there weren't public fireworks shows in much of the US, they really should prioritized fireworks for the beginning of July.

You won't be able to restore the backup at any time; you will have to contact Nintendo and only on a new or recently repaired console.
Generally speaking because this is customer support, I'm gonna bet that it's just a legal statement. Save file corruption will likely be an unspoken reason to enact the backup as well.

July 4th fireworks only happened on the Gamecube game, after that for a more worldwide appeal they moved fireworks to the whole month of August.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I think the biggest issue is that there was more furniture on NL, so Nook's Cranny expansions felt more important. Maybe they want to wait until they create a hefty amount of new furniture to update the shop.

We're also getting a free wallpaper with the update:

it seems like people are more focused on what's NOT in the game than what's actually in it. and all the datamine info that was found has only further fueled that.

in my opinion, the outdid themselves with this update. the fireworks and the dream suite look insanely well done.

Can someone explain the Dream Suite to me? I mean, in further detail? It sounds like it was a feature in previous games judging by the posts here.

They don't have them on November 5th either. Almost like it's a worldwide game and not just based around American or British dates of importance.

The Dream Suite is a way to visit themed islands people create without having to be friends with anyone or to need an active online connection with a different person.

It was a feature introduced in the 3DS version with the advent of more extensive online multiplayer. Horror islands were very popular back then.

Not much, but it's a feature in New Leaf where you're able to customize the space there, and have others asynchronously connect to your New Leaf Dream Suite, so people can look around and admire your custom designs and layouts. All without you needing to be friends with someone.

I really hope we have the chance to order or catalog some items in dreams, because Switch does not have Streetpass, and that shit was crucial on 3DS for getting your furniture sorted in a semi-timely manner.

Basically, in New Leaf, it let you visit other people's towns in a dream instance. So you could interact with the island, but anything you did to it was restricted to the instance. It was a way for randos to visit your island and 100% guarantee that they wouldn't fuck it up because it's just a dream and not your actual town.

GAAS Animal Crossing regularly adding in new things to discoved sounded like a great idea that would keep me regularly playing the game longer than others in the series.. but this has been more of a drip feed, nothing substantial has been added in ages and we're only just getting back some of the things from past games.

I can only assume they got hit hard by COVID, Isabelle was clearly designed to be like the Splatoon announcements that keep telling you about new things all the time except she awkwardly keeps saying there's nothing new which makes the lack of updates stand out more.

Nah I bet the game just isn't made properly for there to be constant updates. Nintendo is just not prepared for these kind of games. I bet eventually they'll get it but its gonna take a few years. They probably also have an internal roadmap for the game that they just dont want to deviate from no matter how successful the game is. They probably thought this should hold everyone for now. Who knows how many people are even on the Animal Crossing team anymore or if they have already moved on to something else. Nintendo is pretty backwards sometimes supporting a successful game is not something they are good at maybe Smash brothers but then they are just adding characters for the most part.

There is also people who just burn through content and just want more. If you play the game daily at a moderate pace you're probably still paying off your home loans and building your town up so these kind of updates are fine for the general public.

Honestly the Dream Suite is one of the most important features they needed to add imo. They gave us more tools to customize our towns but no way to show them off to the world. Dream Suite allows random people to see your work without having to be there with them and they can't ruin your island cuz it's just a dream.

If they added the catalog feature from the Happy Home Showcase that would be even better. In Happy Home Showcase you could download models of other players homes via streetpass and you could purchase any furniture in their houses for yourself.

Triumphant return of pinwheels!

Original game had wind, but was only ever evident with pinwheels. Now they can spin like crazy on those blustery days!

A lot is limited behind the NSO paywall, as mention a few posts above variety of colors for items is pretty much impossible unless you visit other islands, not to mention stuff like crossbreeding flowers that have their chances diminished unless you get other people to water your flowers. And even sharing custom designs, this are QR codes, why the hell do you need NSO for?. Honestly I've been avoiding getting NSO out of principle but with the dream suite I might have to cave in, it pisses me off.

If you don't have NSO there's basically no update in August.
Although I don't see why I'd go in other people's island in dreams.
But it's still winter on my island... Would I still get the fireworks?
They only care about season logic for the northern hemisphere so I guess yes, like diving in water in winter, that sure is something you'd do for fun...

Kinda disappointed by this. I was expecting Wave 2 to have meatier game content than Wave 1... I mean, unless Dream islands are really useful in some way...
