Just need the cicada shell. Am on a modified bamboo nook island, removed all the bug spawning stuff, and brought in like 6 (not fruit) trees that I am constantly running past to scare off stuff, with the idea being that the shell doesn't scare. (And occassionally have to stop to catch mosquitos and scare off ground bugs.)

This method is sound, right? Because I'm about to just grind it out till it pops up, just want to make sure I'm not missing something with my plan.

Alright, got one more shot tomorrow after spending about 4 hours today. Is there any tactic or specific Nook Island for catching the golden stag?

FINALLY! Got the damn cicada shell, completing my August leaving stuff!

What I did was do the general clearing out of a nook island (remove flowers/rocks/non-coconut trees to force the spawns), then plant like 10 additional coconut trees I brought along. Then you just run back and forth, checking the trees on each side of the island till it pops up. Oh, and of course removing any non-essential bugs popping up.

Best island for setup is probably the bamboo one, but I did mine on the spiral island okay enough. Just definitely don't want the river or cliffs cutting a part off without use of tools, as clearing out those sections of nonessential bugs will slow you down.

Alright thanks! I'll probably be doing this tomorrow.

I honestly truly hate this game. I'm missing 4 bugs that are disappearing at the end of month. I spent 8 hours circling my island and haven't caught a single one. At least with fish, I can spam bait. But this is ridiculous.

Ahaha, I bought a second switch lite and a copy of the game. I've had to abandon my other switch lite to the wife and her animal crossing obsession but now I shall play all my games again and I'll have my own island to let fill with weeds and annoy her with my neglect when she comes to visit yo ho ho.

I put a bridge on my only pond and now nothing spawns there

I guess "decorating" the island really does eff up the game part of the game

Mystery Islands. Are they stags? Try your luck trying to get a hardwood island. Islands are smaller so they are also faster to circle.

Yeah ponds need a certain amount of open water to spawn a moving fish shadow of various sizes. I messed up one of my ponds for ages, trying to terraform. But it's fixable. You can add space at the ends, or dig a new pond for fishing and leave the bridge one for decor.

I don't think we're getting it until mid/late September

Since it'll be Halloween themed, there's not really any rush to get it out ASAP

You might be right, especially with covid messing up their production schedule.

That being said there has been an update every month at the beginning of each month, or pair of months, introducing something new to the game.

Kind of expected some new activity for September. Even though they mentioned Halloween when they talked about the next update that doesn't mean that's the only thing the update will contain.

I wish they'd try to get every month to have at least some kind of minor event

July and September are a bit dry compared to the other months that have some kind of minor thing going on

Hi there! I'm all set on other recipes, but would 5 NMTs (or if preferred, an equivalent in bells or a combo of both) work for you for all seven recipes?

My villager line-up saw some changes in August. Audie (finally!) asked to leave, Sprinkle moved in and back out, Erik went on vacation on another island, and I had two awesome campsite visitors, Coco and Cherry, whom I both invited. I decided on eight permanent and two "vacation plots", where villagers can live temporarily until they give me their photo, like Coco & Cherry now. When it's time for Erik to come home, I'll have to decide between Diana and Fauna, and then I'll have my permanent eight. I was all but set on letting Fauna go but think I've grown too attached to her, so Diana might get the boot after all. I'd replace her with Julia if I can find her. The ostriches are great and I'd love to have two of them.

Is that genuine beautiful statue still available? Thanks
Is the Mystic Statue still available? Redd's in town today and selling a real Flower Painting if you want to grab that for yourself
Both still available, when would you be available to trade? I already have the Flowery Painting, but thanks!

So I went back to august 26th to meet Redd again, only to find out he wasn't there anymore (there was Gulliver). Then I changed the date to today and the visitor NPC changed too. Is it because it's a new week?

How can I get the villager's photos? I keep talking with them fairly often and help them with all their needs, but I haven't got any.

I just started to work for those elusive blue roses, hope it doesn't take me ages lol

Does anyone know if villagers will ask a second time to leave if you asked them to stay the first time? I have Lily almost since the start, asked her once to stay, but wouldn't mind swapping her now.

I got a good Nook Mile Island to catch the bugs I was missing. I caught three out of four. And the last one I was missing was the horned hercules. I had seen them like 4 times before and every time I scared them away despite going towards them as slowly as possible. But I saw one more on the last possible minute before it passed the time they stop spawning and so I go very slowly and I get very close and swing my net and I fucking missed. I legitimately hate this game. If I want any decent chance of finding them again, I've got to leave it up to complete luck to end up on the same island.

You get villager photos in exchange for gifts you give them (furniture, clothing, fruit, fossils) and (very rarely) as a reward for quests like treasure hunts, but only after reaching friendship level 5 with them. There's a helpful link in the OP on how the friendship mechanics work.

Talking alone will not get you anything, if you don't give them gifts, quests are your only chance and then it would probably take a year to get a photo - if at all. IIRC the value of the gift has to be 750 bells or higher for a chance to get a photo in return, the easiest would be three stacked non-native fruit (wrapped, if you select the stack they will only take one, meaning the value will be too low to get a photo). Fruits are great because they aren't placed in the villager's inventory, so they won't mess up the villager's house or appearance like furniture or clothing (or the worst: bugs & fish).

Basically, get a villager to friendship level 5, and then hope they give you a photo in return for a present valued 750+ bells.

Don't Nook Island spawns stay at what they are when you first arrive there? Want to say I screwed stuff up with that in the past by setting up a tarantula island right before their spawning hours started, then realizing I had wasted my time.

The trick to catching the horned herc is that it's similar to tarantula/scorpion catching but somewhat reverse. You have to catch the beetle while it's still moving up and down the tree and not when it stops because that's a sign that it's about to take flight. In other words, move when the beetle moves and stop when the beetle stops.

Has there been any rumors about the possibility of adding something in game to track what bugs/fish/etc. are seasonal or monthly?

Seems like a no brainer QoL thing, I know there's ways to see what's in the game but it'd be nice to have it in the Critterpedia or something...

Just wasted two hours of my evening running around a Nook Mile island trying to find the last three rare bugs I'm missing, they never appeared.
I cleaned the island and brought 10 palm trees with me, nothing.

Well, see you next year August, wasted so many hours running around my own island and Nook ones for nothing...

I mean yeah I figured that out by the last time I tried to catch one but I didn't end up getting close enough.
