Weird to see people against possible expansions for a series that releases once a generation. Might be another 7 years to we get the next mainline game....ofc they should add at least 1-2 big expansions to the game in the next couple years.

The 30 bucks in eshop credit I've earned from the past 3 Tetris 99 tourneys is going to come in handy.

I was thinking this at first, that of course Animal Crossing Switch will get DLC, but then i though since ESRB have already rated it for "in-game purchase", wouldnt that indicate that the game already has it from day one?

A season pass to get dungeon/cave exploring, like in the original concept (and the movie).
Now, I'd get this on day one !

Wouldn't you just ask for that in the base game?
Well, that's clearly not the focus, from what we've seen in the trailers, and that's a bit "outside" the traditional Animal Crossing game loop. I wouldn't mind having a traditional base game, and a DLC that try different things, kinda like the Octo Expansion did for Splatoon 2.

I'd be fine with paying for expansions similar to New Leaf's amiibo update, but obviously pushed even further.

The island structure means they can do pretty much anything, too. A theme park island, a Nintendo-themed island, safari adventures with loads of new bugs to catch, maybe even a more urban location to visit with boutiques and minigames.

It's actually kind of a clever idea - people usually drop AC after a year, if they even make it that far, keeping the game alive is a good idea.

Just... don't put in microtransactions.

True, that makes sense.

I don't know all that much about AC, but it seems like there are some features its contemporaries have that it hasn't yet adopted.

Awwww how cute that the OP immediately thinks about DLC and Expansion, so naive. ☺

Get ready for microtransactions.
The only Nintendo game with micro transactions is Smash, and that's only for cosmetic Mii Fighter costumes. I don't know how much you know about Nintendo games, but I'd be willing to bet that Animal Crossing of all games will not have micro transactions.

Ah yes, another game that joins the massive list of Nintendo console games featuring microtransactions, such as _________ , __________ , ____________________ , and last but not least ________________________ .

Pokémon had the same ESRB rating and didn't have DLC on day 1. It just means something is coming down the line. Could be a message saying you need NSO to play online, with a link to the eShop (so nothing), or it could be huge $30-40 expansion packs. We'll just have to wait and see.

Some paid expansions make sense for a game like Animal Crossing which is designed to be your forever game.

Expansions would be great for a game like Animal Crossing. The free 3DS update was wonderful. I imagine we will get a bunch of free updates and a few paid pieces of content.

Not going to support micro transactions but I really doubt Nintendo would do us like that. Splatoon DLC was done well so I assume ACNH would be the same as well. Would gladly welcome a season pass/paid DLC for expansions in the future.

I mean, what Nintendo first party game released in the past year hasn't received DLC or a DLC pass? I'm ok with this.

As long as it is not as expensive as the fortune cookies in Pocket Camp, I would most likely buy any expansions.

meaty expansions that flesh out the game 1-2 years after launch? sure, that would be good to get even more longevity out of it.

being able to pay as a shortcut to attain furniture, villagers, shorter timers or whatever? no, absolutely not. this would ruin the game as it is 100% antithetical to the core spirit of animal crossing itself.

I'm not really a fan of DLC. But Nintendo usually does OK. The Mario Kart DLC and smash DLC are pretty good. The Zelda BotW DLC could have been better.

Didn't New Leaf have new free content (furniture) after the game was released?

Yeah, after I saw that Pokémon Direct, I realized that basically every major Nintendo release will now receive some form of DLC, whether free or a more substantial expansion pass.

Octo Expansion remains the high water mark.

They will probably do a Total War style dlc. Themed dlc furniture packs, free-LC to cross promote stuff, etc. Animal Crossing is the perfect game for it. I suspect it will be a major money maker too and likely gross more than the original game as it is the style of game that is so suited to it.

You can likely bring it with you to other islands who didn't pay for it but those users will need to pay in order to use them in their own houses.

I see, thanks for the info. In that case, i'm guessing its related to NSO being required to play online.

As long as it's not microtransactions I'm fine with whatever. Nintendo has done a good job with all the paid exansions they have put out on switch.

GUYS, what if Rusty's Real Deal took place in the Animal Crossing universe and he appears in this game and is the peddler for DLC? Him or that stupid rabbit that sold you Street Pass DLC.

I mean, Animal Crossing is a type of game that adapts well to expansions. If the rumor about the possibility of going on other islands is true, then I expect new attractions like Tortimer Island in New Leaf.

Lol @ people thinking that the same developers who made the best Nintendo DLC ever (Octo expansion) would go all in on bad DLC/mtx in their next game for no reason at all with no precedents of similar monetization in first party console games.

So long as it's not priced-per-item (eg: foosball table for $1.49) I don't want it.

If it's a Sim's 4-esque "stuff" pack (eg: indoor sports pack for $19.99) I'd be apathetic. It wouldn't really phase me, but I might by one or two packs if they fit my interests. I'd love a beat making pack for my home lmao.

If they're whole-ass expansions that add a bunch of new stuff of different types, along with a new feature or two... I'll buy it all day one.

Yeah not to mention the YEARS of free updates for Splatoon and Splatoon 2. There is nothing to worry about ,and everything to be excited about.

Exactly lol, if they add meaningful content for a good price it's a win/win.

do you have more info on this? first time I heard about caves, but I'd love to have some secret areas in the villages.
Yep. Did some digging and here it is, from Nintendo Seminar 2008 : Nintendo World Report translation

Eguchi said:
The beginning of that design was that you'd have this RPG like world in this massive field, and multiple people would enter, and your play would affect the other players.

In other news, everything is RPG !

This is horrible, I'm really tired of expansions and dlcs.

Maybe instead of releasing a normal dlc, they release a "dlc" that unlocks all you can unlock with cards/amiibo figurines.

I really hope they stick to Iwata's quote on Microtransactions in Animal Crossing:
"Some might say that it would be unbelievably profitable to provide paid add-on content for Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but we were concerned that a game in which you enjoy yourself more by the power of money would not be suitable, and we decided to avoid such a feature after an intensive discussion with the development team,"

Here are the best Nintendo Switch games, from Splatoon 3 and Animal Crossing to Tears of the Kingdom and Pokémon and everything in-between.

HOWEVER, an expansion pack of some kind that adds new gameplay etc would be awesome.

Also, please Nintendo, have an NES and an SNES that you can buy in your house that links to the NES and SNES app.
Thanks
