Detroit represent... wait a minute.

I'm actually surprised Detroit is still ranked at #1. Seemed to have gotten much better in the past few years I've visited back home.

Surprised DC is still so high.
Not surprised Baltimore is, though.
As the article points out though, crime rates have been falling for years. It's interesting to see the wide variability in poverty rate compared to the rankings though—substantially lower rates in some places with much higher overall crime rates. You'd expect them to be much more strongly correlated.

Here's their methodology:

To identify the 50 most dangerous U.S. cities, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed violent crime rates in cities with at least 100,000 people from the FBI's 2018 Uniform Crime Report. The total number and the rates of murder, non-negligent manslaughter, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, which are included in the violent crime rate, as well as burglaries, larceny, and motor vehicle theft, which are classified as property crime, also came from the FBI's report.

We considered ten year population change using data from the FBI.

Annual unemployment rates for 2018 came from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Median household income and poverty rates came from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2017 American Community Survey and are five-year averages.

I do think Chicago has the most dangerous neighborhoods, but not sure on the stats to back that up.

Pueblo in the top 50, and the only City from Colorado makes sense. It's a god damn meth town at this point.

Hmm, my hometown of Tacoma didn't seem that dangerous when I passed by a few months ago. Well what lol

KC is only dangerous if you insult our BBQ.

Or I guess if you're around the Westport area.

I'm honestly really surprised to see it that high. I've never felt like it was a dangerous city, and I've been all over it.

I live in Modesto and visit Stockton regularly... I don't see them as particularity dangerous. Maybe I'm just use to the environment.
I mean, you live in Modesto (#41). None of those central valley cities are known for their vast economic opportunity or crime-free living. Didn't know about Richmond, but all the rest of those make sense. Kinda shocked Fresno didn't make the cut.

When moving up here I got the impression Tacoma has quite the rep.

Hilltop was not a safe place to be when I was a kid in the 90s, and where I went to college in Parkland in the early 00s was the meth capital of the US for a long time, but I was always under the impression that it had significantly improved.

I think according to this list Tulsa has gotten less dangerous over the years? Also, I am surprised to see it rank higher than Chicago.

How did they not list Chicago 50 times? That place is more dangerous than Afghanistan!
