No that hot. Christian Bale gave a very bland performance in that film.Hottake. Sam Worthington was better than Christian Bale in Terminator Salvation.

I wouldn't call it bland, but needlessly angry and intense at all times throughout. No that hot. Christian Bale gave a very bland performance in that film.
He's also amazing in Perpetual Grace Ltd. The best show from last year that nobody watched.
He wasn't great in GoT.
Will was not "terrible" in Enemy of the state, I Robot, the first Men in Black, even I am legend and Hancock, whatever we can think of those movies. He also did Six degrees of separation after Fresh Prince, and even If I didn't see the movie, I heard he was good in Pursuit of happyness.
Driven is a bad movie, but Stallone was fine in it. I think people are mistaking bad movies for bad performances in this thread.Okay, he is not bad in those (I'm assuming you mean the first Rambo film) but for every First Blood or Copland there are ten Drivens or Paradise Alleys.
elijah wood in the war is easily one of the top 10 performances by a child actor.Elijah Wood was good in LOTR and Wilfred, not much else. Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter.
Leonard Nimoy. Outstanding as spock.
Absolutely terrible when he was supposed to be the master of disguise in Mission Impossible
That reminds me I still haven't watched Joey..

Thought he was really good in Killing Them Softly. Though he appreared to be on the verge of a heart attack the whole time.I feel like this is true with pretty much every actor in the Sopranos. I don't remember James Gandolfini standing out in any post-Sopranos films. Plus, it's really, really, really hard to follow up something like the Sopranos. It's like a Top 3 TV show of all time.
Never seen Vice Versa, the second best body switching movie after Like Father, Like Son?Judge Reinhold was incredible in Beverly Hills Cops 1,2 and 3. He never got much of a chance besides shitty family fare after that. He should have been the next Eddie Murphy or Dave Chappelle but white.
He's definitely better at his post-MM comedy roles. Dude is amazing.honestly is surreal how incredible Jon Hamm was Mad Men and how completely unremarkable his career outside of it is. I always get excited for a moment when he shows up in any film and then immediately disappointed.
Elysium and A Team. But that's still better than 95% of the picks posted.Someone please convince me that Sharlto Copley doesn't belong in this thread.
Watch Gandolfinj in "The Mexican"I feel like this is true with pretty much every actor in the Sopranos. I don't remember James Gandolfini standing out in any post-Sopranos films. Plus, it's really, really, really hard to follow up something like the Sopranos. It's like a Top 3 TV show of all time.
In most films Will Smith basically plays himself. He may have a different job or he might live in different time/place but the characterization is pretty much the same.
And Free Fire.Elysium and A Team. But that's still better than 95% of the picks posted.
Again, Pursuit of Happiness, I Am Legend and Six Degrees and even Enemy of the State. In most films Will Smith basically plays himself. He may have a different job or he might live in different time/place but the characterization is pretty much the same.
In Ali he gives an actually convincing portrayal of a real person. It's the only performance from him I have seen where I stopped thinking about the character just as a Will Smith alter ego.
I'll give her Stretch.
Yeah, no, if you think he plays the same character in all the movies I mentioned, we'll have to agree to disagree. In most films Will Smith basically plays himself. He may have a different job or he might live in different time/place but the characterization is pretty much the same.
And he was good in Something Wild.
Okay my last correction because I fucking can't with you guysDaniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter)
Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker)
Adrian Brody (The pianist)
Gandolfini had some decent roles but no major lead role afaik. He went into production and theater after The Sopranosa and had a couple of nominations, so still successful.I feel like this is true with pretty much every actor in the Sopranos. I don't remember James Gandolfini standing out in any post-Sopranos films. Plus, it's really, really, really hard to follow up something like the Sopranos. It's like a Top 3 TV show of all time.
That must be the single worst performance I've seen in a mainstream blockbuster movie.Too often when people think they are judging acting, they are actually judging writing.
That being said, Mark Wahlberg was the first person I thought of for this thread
What a doofus.
Then you need to see Adaptation and Leaving Las Vegas Cage has a reputation but when he wants he knocks it out of the park these two specifically are some of the best performances I can think of ever from any actor
Nicolas Cage's only good role (H. I. McDunnough from Raising Arizona.) He is absolutely terrible in everything else that I have seen him in.
I actually thought she did a good role at Emma Frost. It's a shame they killed her and many others off screen for DotF because their villain presence was done well in first class
You probably didn't realize you were watching Gary Oldman in other movies the guy is a friggin chameleon
Love that movie Radcliffe and Dano were greatMore people need to watch Swiss Army Man.
PSA: Please Watch Swiss Army Man people
A lot of these answers would still be terrible still.People are taking the op too literally.
Of course, there aren't any (well-known) actors that are great in one thing and terrible in everything else. Even a mediocre actor isn't terrible in every project they do. They wouldn't be able to sustain a career longer than a few years if that was true.
Better way to frame this thread would be "actors with one performance that is considerably better than everything else they have done" but that wouldn't be hyperbolic enough for this place so the thread would probably die before the first page.
Was going to say Napolean Dynamite but he was already mentioned.
Leaving Las Vegas he was also good in if you want to talke conventional roles but I dig him in roles like Mandy, seems horror is made for him.

It's become an opportunity to recommend other great movies posters missed in most cases. That's not so bad. This was a cool topic/thread but then I read through it and all these god awful takes/responses and I just don't have it in me to respond to all of them. There is a few good choices in the thread but not many.
I won't because he absolutely does. District 9 was his first and only convincing performance.Someone please convince me that Sharlto Copley doesn't belong in this thread.
I mentally checked out after seeing someone mention fucking Gene Wilder.Holy shit we actually have Russel Crowe, Gary Oldman, Nicholas Cage, Ben Kingsley, DiCaprio and Sam Neil mentioned here lmao. Watch more stuff people
He was hilarious in Elysium and A-Team !Someone please convince me that Sharlto Copley doesn't belong in this thread.
Perhaps in The Crown ? I dunno, didn't watch it...Has Matt Smith ever done anything close to the level of his Doctor Who work?
This deserves a ban.
Or, conversely, should watch more movies before dishing out those ridiculous hot takes. Some of y'all should be locked in a supply closet and barred form ever watching another movie again.
I liked him in American Psycho, Requiem for a dream, Mr Nobody, Alexander and Lord of War.Jared Leto in Dallas Buyers Club.
Absolutely terrible in everything else.
I feel like that's as much as the quality of roles he's given as anything else. I don't know if that bizarre Ryan Gosling film or failed Terminator Reboot No. 124 are enough to go off. Wasn't he axed from Rise of Skywalker too? (Probably a blessing for him)Has Matt Smith ever done anything close to the level of his Doctor Who work?
