Activision has confirmed that the Standard Edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on next-gen will be priced higher than the current-generation standard editions.
For almost 15 years now, standard editions of games have been $59.99 for players, with almost all companies offering higher and premium editions for different prices.
Activision has now confirmed they will be increasing the price of the Standard Edition of next-generation games for their franchise starting with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The "Standard Edition" for next-gen will include a copy for current-gen users who want to play on that version too.

Pretty significant news I'd say. Will probably be the new normal in a few years with major publishers like Take-Two and Activison already pushing for this.

The last game I bought for full price was Fallen Order. Before that, Battlefront(2015). So I think I only need to be concerned about fallen order 2 being that price.

Not particularly surprising. I feel like this was going to happen at some point. Can always wait for a discount if necessary.

So the cross green bundle for $70 is the only way to get the game on next Gen systems?

Damn. I thought they were just pulling some BS for digital preorders to start now but the standard edition would be $60 when the consoles launched.

Are they purely speaking for the COD franchise or ALL of their games they publish?

Well, I guess I will be paying $70 for the Demon's Souls remake (you know all devs are going to do this..).

I wonder how that translates to euros because they were always more expensive here already.

59.99 Dollar = 50 Euro but in reality it cost here 69.99 Euros which translates to a whooping 83 dollars.

Hello $100 games.

Thank god I live in Ontario where PSN charges no tax. Woo.

That and Game Pass will save me.

PC still has it at 60. But regardless this just makes me not want to pick up games day 1. I can easily wait.

I confirm I'll be increasing the amount of time I wait before purchasing videogames.

Also, key resellers are my friends. Even more than before.

Looks like I'm not buying games day 1 anymore. No way I'm spending $89.99CDN for a new game.

Most games go on sale 3-4 weeks after release so I'm not too worried.

So in Europe, it will be 74.99€ instead of 69.99€ for the MSRP
(even if I'm sure, majority of Europeans here bought their games for less than that day one, physical wise)

Well I won't be buying it then.

With GamePass and other modes being offered for free, like Warzone, I feel no need to drop $70 on a game like Call of Duty. For something like Red Dead Redemption, a meaty single-player game that also has a full online mode, sure, but not for CoD that comes out every year and has a ~10 hour campaign that you've mostly played before but in a different setting.

Looks like this translates to £64.99 in the UK which isn't too bad. Some current gen games are already hitting £59.99 (Final Fantasy VII Remake was the most recent one I can remember on PSN) so it's about a fiver more.
