He really liked the VR portion. Called it a gamechanger and the best VR experience he's had yet.

Seriously. Buncha whiners.
Yep how dare people be frustrated a big game in 2019 doesn't support their higher end console for reasons.
My guess is most people saying this never actually intended to buy it.

Don't get me wrong, it is shitty, but it's not the end of the world.
On the contrary, we're frustrated because we wanted to get the game but now we have the dilemma of supporting a game that doesn't even properly support our platform.

It runs fine on my Pro?

SkillUp's review is up. Might be good for newcomers because he's relatively new to the series and learns the appeal of it through his time with 7

Great fucking review. I love seeing people explain what I just instinctively like. It's like "yep that's exactly why I like it, crazy I never really thought of it till now".

Bought a HOTAS when it was on sale super cheap ($35) around Xmas in anticipation of this game. Crazy its back up to $80 now on Amazon. Looking forward to finally giving the HOTAS a try tonight w/ PSVR. I think i've played part of one Ace Combat game in my life, and i'm already $100 in for this one. WTF. That being said...

I can't wait.

It unlocked one hour ago, psn version. Going to bed now but I've managed to give a look at the settings and play the first mission.

Looks to me like a classic ace combat on steroids. Military aircraft porn baby !

Love it.

Are you a fan of the series? Would you agree with his complaints on missile locks and maneuvering? Or are there more effective strategies?

I really want to grab this tonight but I'm just worried about the replayability.

From what I'm reading the VR campaign is short though, around and an hour or two.

It is unfortunately, but I still bought the game for that mode!
And I just finished the skill-up review and it looks insane. He even recommended buying this game just for psvr (on sale) to test it out.

Even if the mission(s) are short it's a flight game so I can play the same ones over and over.

I pre-ordered on Amazon today but haven't gotten an email yet with the code for AC5. Has anyone got it that pre-ordered from Amazon?

Crap it's actually unlocked now...
But it's bed time and I have work in 7 hours :(

I guess I can test one psvr mission...

Well, I'm not a super fan in the sense where you had people in Infinity with fully decked out planes that could literally wipe clean the battlefield. But for basic play he's right. You can upgrade your plane and weaponry to make things easier. Stealth makes it's harder for your enemies to lock on to you and better homing missiles can cut down time spent dogfighting.

I can probably say this as the game is out now in my territory - there are no save points mid-mission. There are 1-2 checkpoints though.
Not in anihilation missions. You die, you start over.
There are some levels shorter than that are there are absolutely check points in some of them depending on difficulty. When dying it asks you. START FROM CHECKPOINT.

These anihilation missions do not have checkpoints. Even if you select start from checkpoint.

Amazon changed up my release date delivery at the last moment :/ Broke down and bought the absurd PS store price just to make sure I get AC5 too.

He clarified saying missions are sbout 20 to 25 minutes, they took him an hour because he failed that many times.

Okay, thanks.

I've got to say, there were definitely some red flags for me in that review that have me considering canceling my pre-order. He describes the game as being punishingly difficult. 20-30 minute mission with insta fail rules that you must follow precisely or you fail. Are there difficulty settings? Is the lowest one still really difficult?

I just now finished it with 17770 points and just crashed before getting mission complete. Yay....

I know it's too late but there's a control option to take reduced damage from crashing.

You can tone down the difficulty and purchase campaign-exclusive upgrades that increase the amount of time it takes for enemies to lock onto you and other beneficial enhancements to make the campaign easier. When I say purchase, it's in Strangereal bucks that you get from campaign/multiplayer.

3 difficulty levels. There are no INSTA fail missions exactly. I guess you could consider 1 or 2 particular starts of levels where you need to do something. But they aren't under any real stress. So I guess could consider those instafail but its rare and I can't see you failing it.

Ok, that was not a full missing.
Pro-tip, don't go into the VR mode tired and cross-eyed and start to do loops and rolls like crazy over the first island..

I was like.. "this is fantastic.. I better do even more extreme movements...... oh oh... VR sickness incomming!"

I think it will be fine when I am properly awake and don't go nuts with the maneuvers.
But it looks INSANE!!.. I can't wait til i finish work tomorrow.

This was my first AC game and I was pretty surprised at the difficulty level. I played on Easy and still struggled with a lot of the earlier levels because the game doesn't really do much to help you out. It gets easier once you realise you really need to pay attention to the map and the radio chatter - but failing a segment will still throw you back from 5-20 minutes in some cases.

By the end of the game I felt a lot more capable and didn't struggle too much.
