Just purchased the game on the PS4 while it was on sale. Just beat the third chapter Where you first start dealing with the rat hordes in the church and so far I'm really enjoying it. Its surprisingly pretty and the music has been great. The stealth gameplay is a bit limited still but overall its pretty good at what it sets out to do. I'm curious to see more about the story and characters considering a lot of the mystery still surrounding things like what I assume are some light supernatural elements

Finished the game yesterday and really enjoyed it all the way through. My biggest complain would be some not well placed checkpoints, but apart from that a fantastic gaming experience. My gaming surprise 2019 so far.

Just beat the game and thought it was really good. I kind of wish they made some of the puzzles a little crazier by the end and did a bit more with some of the characters but all in all a really good single player action adventure game. Did this game do well enough that there is any chance at a sequel as it feels like there were some things that were never dealt with or only hinted at.

Only on chapter 4 but so far this is insanely good. The amount of detail, voice acting and graphics are just stunning. Really hope the whole game keeps up this quality.

I've been playing this game on and off over the past two weeks, often only having time to play one or two chapter at a time. I just finished the game today and I quite enjoyed the overall experience.

Minor nitpicks aside, mostly relating to rigid gameplay and encounter design, I was sucked in by the atmosphere from start to finish. This is easily one of the prettiest games I've played on my PC, the environments are absolutely gorgeous and the main attraction of the game, imho. The story was also interesting enough from beginning to end - not amazing but good enough to carry you through an enjoyable adventure. The gameplay was serviceable at best, but I didn't hate it. I'd say it's a game that is carried mostly by its visuals, but the story and characters are good enough that I wanted to see it through to the end while also enjoying it along the way. I'll definitely keep and eye on Asobo in the future as they've shown great promise with this game.

I definitely don't regret playing this and I appreciate that it was a polished and lengthy single player game with a lot of variety in the environments.
Just finished it and this is exactly how I feel. Beautiful game, I really enjoyed it. Played the whole thing in French and I found the VA to be excellent. I was just really engrossed the whole time.

And hell... It's basically a medieval The Last of Us. I'm surprised it's not getting more attention.

I played in English as my knowledge of French is very limited. I think the English VA is pretty good overall, the young actors did well.

The medieval The Last of Us comparison is pretty apt, though this game will never have the same mass appeal. I hope it has done well enough though, as Asobo deserves some success for this surprisingly well made game.

Just finished it. Story sort of fell apart a little at the end but besides that I loved it.

Really wish this game was marketed a lot better. It's like The Last of Us, Brothers and Life Is Strange 2 all made into one game.

Really interested in what the devs do after this. Can't believe most of their recent work before this was porting crappy Xbox One games to PC.

If I had to guess why it's not getting more attention, I'd say it may be the focus on rats. A plague of rats is probably just not a very appealing subject to most people. But something equally gross like zombies/infected is more ingrained into people from classic movies and tv shows.

The game deserves a lot of attention though. It's probably my game of the year so far.

Months after finishing this game, I still pop into on a weekly basis and pick a random level and just play.
It's such a beautiful game.

This was pretty good. Beat it today. 7/10
I thought the world, atmosphere, graphics mood were excellent.
However everything else was kinda middling to above average, story kinda sucked. It fell apart in the last few chapters and became kinda generic with the antagonist.
Gameplay was ok stealth mechanics were rigid and simple usually only one way to deal with encounters. It was extremely linear. I wasn't really a fan of the slingshot either found it annoying to use and just slow and fiddly.
Also wasn't really a fan of most of the game being an escort mission having an annoying child to look after and escorting. Some annoying checkpoints and enemy encounters too. The last boss fight really sucked. Just inecessary.

All in all it was pretty good but not amazing. Gameplay was its weakest aspect but everything else was great. Certainly glad I didn't buy it digital as it's a shortish game and has no replay value.

Just finished the game today, and only just realised french voice acting for it was a thing. Dammit, I'd totally have played it like that if I'd have known. The English VA was very good though so I'm not too disappointed, only time it got annoying was at the end with repeat dialogue on restart.

Basically I really enjoyed the first 14 or so chapters, but kinda got annoyed at the last chapter or two. Unfortunately I felt the stealth/encounters in these final sections just felt a bit too annoying for my liking, when coupling people you were escorting and one hit kills. Basically felt like you had to do certain things perfectly else your screwed, likewise the boss fight at the end felt like real trial and error where it wasn't clear on what to do until you die a few times - sorta - as the VA does actually tell you what not to do, but its drowned out by music/other stuff so its hard to hear. Looked damn good though.

So yeah, other than some gripes with the end game, I really loved it. Great setting, looked damn nice and I felt the child characters were actually pretty well written and believable for the most part. The rat puzzles were fantastic and early game stealth worked ok (at least, better than most stealth games I've played these days). Your powers you gain along the way were great, and added a nice layer of depth to each encounter, though again like the above complaints I wasn't personally a fan of
the point where you gained control over the rats. I basically felt that most of the earlier mechanics were thrown out the window at that point to simply being - remove light, use rats - which ruined some of the run, and again tied into my distaste for the final chapters encounter design.

Still, absolutely worth playing, especially if you can find it cheap, its absolutely going to be one of the hidden gems of the year no doubt.

My copy of this game is still in it's plastic wrapping. I need to get to this. I bought it a couple of weeks after it launched then forgot about it!

How many of you would say this game is in your top games of the year?

Finally played and finished this game last week. Wow! What a gem of a game. I was so surprised by how good it was, interesting engaging characters, a good story that caught me off guard with how dark and bleak it got at times. Just a wonderful game to play through! Oh and the music was fantastic!

Bumping this to say I bought this on a whim and it ended up becoming my current GOTY. Just came out of nowhere and went right to #1. What a pleasant surprise.

My favourite game soundtrack in ages, too.

Signed up for origin premier to play fallen order and now that I've beaten it I'm giving a plague tale a chance.

I'm up to chapter 4 and not enjoying it. Does the game get any better or change at all going forward? So far, it's just way way too linear for me. There's only one way to proceed and get through. Does it open up at all? I was excited to play it based on the reviews and the 94% positive rating on steam, but so far I'm not enjoying it at all.

Most games in this genre are pretty linear, don't think you'll enjoy it much if you don't like it after 4 hours.

Wound up wrapping this up tonight. Really loved the game's atmosphere and the characters. I think the game does a great job immersing you in the role of Amicia, and it as cool seeing her character grow as the story progressed, particularly her reaction to dealing with enemies during combat. All in all, just a very solid adventure story.

The gameplay itself was a bit of a mixed bag for me. I feel the game walks a very fine line between tedium and satisfying combat (particuarly that last chapter). The stealth mechanics are serviceable for the most past, though the most interesting part of the game is the various ways of dealing with the plethora of rats in your way. More to the game's credit, it does provide a lot of neat mechanics for getting around the rat infested environment and enemies, which does feel satisfying when figured out. But it can also fall apart rather quickly (whether it's checkpointing feeling a touch stingy at times or the stealth mechanics feeling a bit finicky). I don't necessarily mind Amicia being easily suspectible one hit kills (I think that vulnerability adds positively to the tension and immersion), but at the same time, it can be a bit frustrating, especially if a checkpoint doesn't quite put you back where you want to be.

But overall, definitely enjoyed the game, and glad I got a chance to play it.

Trying to avoid spoilers, but how much longer do I have roughly in terms of time? Wondering if I should try to go for the end tonight.

I escaped the University with the book. Rodric came with me. I think I'm at Chapter XI?

Thinking to get this game now. I'm in the mood for a well paced and atmospheric linear game with emphasis on story. Played the demo several months ago and liked it, very very good looking game.

How long is this game roughly?

According to Steam, I made it in 17 hours but I made a completionist run and got all the achievements. Story is easily wrapped in about 13 to 15 hours.

I'm a slow player and I got 15 hours. Didn't care about achievements much but I did take my time with it.

I started paying this on Gamepass for PC the other day. I'm through the first 7 chapters and really liking it so far. I'm not big on stealth or puzzles, but so far it's pretty basic and more about atmosphere and characters. Which is what I was wanting as I had thought it was more of a walking sim type game (went in mostly blind).

It looks amazing as well. I wish we got more of these 10-15ish your linear single player games with top production values.

I played the demo on PS4 Pro and the image quality was horrendous. Has anyone tried both the demo and the full version? Does the full version look better, or is the demo Pro enhanced as well and they look identical?

I finished this up last night. Overall I enjoyed it, but really felt the wheels kind of came off the last third of the game or so. Probably a 7.5/10 type of game for me, which isn't bad as I'm not a fan of stealth games at all. I honestly didn't know it was a stealth game going in mostly blind, and also thought it was a more grounded game about the plague/inquisition than it ended up being--and would have liked it more if it was. Plus, being someone that doesn't care for kids at all, it didn't resonate with me like it probably did others. I found Hugo very annoying and it seems like a lot of grief could have been avoided if
you just let the whiny little shit die early on and end the Macula threat before he reached the thresholds and had his blood taken etc.

Still, it was a decent experience, but I'm glad I didn't end up buying it the few times I thought about it as I'd be more sour on it if I'd dropped cash on it vs. playing it on a $1 three-month Gamepass period.

Oh, and if you play on PC and are having a lot of frame drops, put it in borderless window mode instead of full screen. I was getting a lot of drops in places and found that tip and had few issues after switching, even with an older PC (GTX 970, but in 1080p).

The game had a fair chunk of Chromattic aberration, I can imagine if you are playing it in a lower resolution then that would look more jarring.
They actually turned it down and put in an option to disable it , which probably wasn't patched into the demo

Let me start by saying I'm disappointed with the OT not being named "Rats off to ya!" smh

With that said, I was really excited to finally try this game when they added it to gamepass as it was a very anticipated game for me. However, while I am somewhat enjoying the setting and narrative, I'm very unenthused by the gameplay.

It's mirroring all of the reasons why I don't like The Last of Us to the extent that it's a completely analogous experience. I hate the rudimentary stealth that typically involves progressing every encounter in the same way-- Throw something to distract and walk by or find what interactable item in the environment needs to be shooted. I'm about halfway through the game and while it is adding a bit of nuances to encounters (I just got the bit that takes enemies helmets off), these additions don't deviate from the core gameplay loop.

The game is exceptionally pretty from all angles to include graphical fidelity and art direction. Some moments are pretty immersive, like the first time you're in the crypts and come face to face with the rats. The visual storytelling in this sequence was top notch, with little flourishes like the placement of furniture, blood, and markings.

Pretty disappointing experience. If you like TLOU, you'll probably like APT. If not, look elsewhere.

Beautiful Province of Quebec.
Trying to love this and its pretty great graphic wise, voice acting is good, atmosphere is excellent but man it"s getting too much of a trial and error thing for my taste I think...currently stuck in chapter 5,trying to figure out how to go through the battlefield and I keep getting caught...I am out of the sleep potion or whatever, which would make it easier but I hope that's not the only solution...so if I fling a rock on a pile of metal that flashes, they look at me instead of where the rock landed but if I throw it,they go near the metal...? I am not sure on this and this guy spots me right away and Lucas gets caught in a battle and its rinse and repeat time again...

This place is the first time I am really stomp,it was fairly easy so far...its the place where you see guards throwing bodies in the fire, there's 3 of them and one more a little way down, standing still looking in the direction I probably need to go...probably something obvious that I am not seeing for now, like when I had to send Hugo through a hole to open the window for Amicia...

EDIT: and I made it the first time on my next try lol...up to chapter 8 now.
