I've been looking forward to this for a long time. Focus Home Interactive really has been killing it when it comes to supporting story-driven singleplayer games. My one concern with Plague Tale is that the voice acting sounds a bit dodgy at times but everything else looks so great, I think I'll be able to handle that :p.

Given the big focus on the rats, I'm curious how the game will build upon that threat/mechanic throughout. So far, it's seemed kind of simple/basic, so I'm hoping that element doesn't get repetitive

There is a lot of gameplay variation around the rats. I think we'll surprise you.

FUN FACT: there is full voice acting for English, but also French. We think some people might get a kick out of this as it's the 'original' language of the authors, similar to watching subs rather than dubs in anime. If the VA isn't for you - and we're dealing with child characters, so that's possible no matter how great we might think the English version is (hint: we think it's really great) - it might be worth trying that. VO is also in German, fyi.

If they 11-11 Memories Retold or this would be "such an ERA titles" don't you think people would be expressing their interest and hype in threads like this?

Maybe I'm just cynical, but I think majority of ERA isn't into these kinda games and are all about that blockbuster AAA R* / Naughty Dog / 4A... stuff.

Comparing 4A to Rockstar and Naughty Dog is utterly ridiculous.

It certainly looks interesting but the prospect of extended escort missions has me a bit worried. Just not my idea of fun.

Had a lot of fun with Focus published games like Vampyr and The Council last year though, so i'm willing to give this a chance as well.

For what it's worth, it's rare that the game plays anything like an escort mission. There are sections where you are doing stuff like that, but often Hugo is by your side and not someone you have to worry about being attacked separately - and there are times he isn't with you at all. Naturally, it's extremely dangerous space, very ripe for annoyance, which is why Asobo spent endless time working and reworking levels to remove any frustration. You'll get the final call on if they were successful, of course, but we think they've pulled it off pretty well.

I had an internship at Asobo some time ago, before they started working on this (to my knowledge at least). They are really passionate and capable devs and I can't wait to try this out!

I'll keep that in mind, thanks :). Do you know whether the script was originally written in English or French? I tend to try and play/watch media in its originally intended language so that would factor into my decision. Oh and are the voice actors the same in the English and French versions? (Because it sounds to me like all the English VAs are French so that would make sense.)

Thanks for the clarification that sounds pretty good, will definitely put it on my wishlist.

Hey everyone,

Ben from Focus Home Interactive (the publisher) here, I'm part of the marketing team and have done a bit of work on Plague Tale. If anyone's got any Qs, I'd be happy to (try to) answer.
Hey Ben from Focus Home Interactive. Wanted to let you know that I took note of the game last year and thought it looked OK. Fast forward to a couple days ago when a new ad popped up on my YouTube. Very impressed with the polish and development of the game!
It really does look like it could be something special. At the very least I appreciate that y'all are trying something different. Some of my favorite games are the odd ones. Those rats look terrifying!
My only concern (as others have expressed here) is the escort mechanic. At best the mechanic will work and fade into the background. At worst it could wreck the game. There are very few frustration-free examples of this mechanic in gaming.
Regardless of that I do want to congratulate you one your marketing efforts (YouTube ad was impressive) and the hard work of the team in building the game.
Looking forward to seeing more!

Can't trust a person who's name is ChaosSmurf. I need to see receipts.

Er, I can take a selfie next to the sign if you like?

Script was written in French originally, which is part of why we wanted to provide the option to have French VO. The French voice actors are different from the English ones. Most of the English VAs are French indeed, however, so it feels authentic no matter what language you play in.

Yeah, I can see how it can seem like a no-win situation. The truth is that it does 'fade into the background' because it isn't something the gameplay focuses on, as mentioned. For example when the two are together, they usually move as one unit - holding hands and helping each other. If they're separated, it's for a specific reason, and there's unique gameplay surrounding that. I think God of War did it very well, if you want an example, though we have more focus on the pairing than that game did (imo).

Discovered this game a few days ago via youtube. Watched a few videos. Looks great. I know I'm in a minority but hoping it's less than 20 hrs long (because I'm trying my best to avoid long games these days). But it looks like a story driven game so I am guessing around ten hrs. Hyped so far

The concept and visuals look very cool, but this is one of those wait and see games for me. I hope it's good.

Graphics look great and the premise is intriguing. Stealth/escort gameplay... that feels like it could easily go awry. I would honestly feel more confident in this game if it was a straight walking sim.

I've had my eye on this game since E3 last year. I really loved the story trailer and it sold me on the game. My only problem is deciding what I'm going to play 1st that day this or Rage 2.

This is the first Focus Home game in a while I'm not interested in, even bought The Council day one, and the reason is unfortunately very shallow: I don't like rats.

Not in the same way people don't like spiders, it's not that they scare me, it's just completely uninteresting to me. I look at the rats during gameplay and I REALLY don't want to play that game.

Still trying to keep an open mind because Vampyr was my 2018 GOTY, and I also really liked Call of Cthulhu, but yeah, I'll wait for a good sale, at least.

EDIT: Forget everything I said, just watched the story trailer, looks awesome!

Visual presentation ever striking at least! Even if a little janky at times. :p

Just saw this pop up on my instagram feed and I'm very interested!

Narrative seems promising and the visuals are really impressive.
Need to watch some gameplay later on!

Plague is developed by Asobo? I was wondering what happened to those guys, I played FUEL by them and then...nothing. Glad to see they are still in business, and especially with such interesting looking title. We need more historical non-fantasy games.

Hopefully, it's like a good Amy. I want to see people being eaten alive by the rats, they haven't shown footage of that yet hehe.

It looks gorgeous and I love story-heavy games. I might pick it up early just to support it.

Saw the IGN video of this game and it looked real good. One to look forward to. The premise is truly unique. And it looks real pretty to boot. Kudos!

Just wanna make sure, is it possible to have just the voice acting set to French and everything else (menus, subtitles, etc) in English?

ChaosSmurf is it possible to preorder directly from the developer / you guys so I avoid giving 30% to Valve and instead give more to you in order to support such a good looking game?

I've been keeping my eye on this game since E3 last year. Just saw the new trailer and I'm hyped that it's coming out in May--I thought we would be waiting much longer for it. It has official replaced Rage 2 as my May game purchase.

Also, I'm actually really excited to play a SP game that ISN'T open world. Open worlds are great but I love the linear story-driven games just as much!

For clarity, they've worked on a BUNCH of work-for-hire and co-development stuff since then - extremely talented and veteran studio at this point, and we can't wait to help them show that to the world.

Yup! Exactly as you'd expect from a Japanese-made game, for example. We're expecting it to be quite popular.

I don't believe so right now, but I'll check tomorrow what other stores we might be supporting.
