My old favorite go-to was always o_O or o_O; along with :/
Weirdly I almost never use either of those anymore, meanwhile ones like :P and <_<; will still pop up occasionally.
And of course my old classic, Meta Knight:

I truly miss the screenshot wars from the old days. So much pointless fun. Remember the dreamcast vs ps2 stuff? I think it was MSR vs GT. It was so ridiculous and over the top.

It's weird thinking back to it, but AIM used to be such a huge part of my life. I'd spend hours every day on it talking to friends from school, as well as friends I met on forums, and sometimes just complete strangers I met through friends of friends. I talked to people from all over the world and of all different ages. I'd be like 10 years old talking to people like 3 times my age and they'd send me porn and shit like it was no big deal lol
Discord is probably the closest thing I've found to AIM these days, but I'm no where near as social as I used to be when I was a kid.

No, in the *old* days of the internet smileys were :-). That originates from the early eighties. WITH the nose, which has fallen by the wayside in recent years.
The Japanese-style smiles that aren't rotated didn't appear until the *mid* eighties. FAR too new-fangled.
(I guess, in a sense, this is "Old man yells at Cloud"?)
I don't think I ever went on the forums but GameWinners was my cheat site of choice because the layout/color scheme of the site was way more elegant compared to other cheat sites at the time.
