What kind of path did you think this country was on? If you thought things would change without anger and pushback, that this country was in a position to peacefully reconcile and get along, then you haven't been paying attention to what protesters have been saying.
A lot, and I mean a lot, of people will die or be savaged before the path you want to take is considered. And at that point there might not be a future for those protesting already.
The protests need to start dying down a bit. No matter how peaceful they are, it's only adding fuel to the fire at this point and is actually HELPING Trump.

I'm also frustrated because I'm not seeing the impact I'm hoping for. If it weren't for videos on Twitter, you'd swear there were no protests going on at all. The news isn't covering it anymore unless it gets violent.

Most of police stuff is done at a local level. There's a lot the mayor could have done to prevent this.
You could also look at Portland, LA, NYC or Seattle too 🤷‍♂️
