I'm making a few threads tonight and I don't care and I've had some wine and I don't care so:

whaddaya remember from the golden era that isn't really a thing anymore?

Ill start: Meatloaf. The musician not the food. Did he get cancelled or something cos for a few years he was my main musical influence (I went on to become a lover of folk and hip hop so - not sure where that netted out)

Skateboarding.

I just bought a new setup a few days ago actually, even though the last time I skated I was probably around 14.

no idea about meatloaf but 3D Doritos, I miss them so much.

Malls actually being a cool place to hang out, that's another one.

Radio Shack actually being really cool.

Circuit City though... That was my temple.

Oh and while we're on retailers, Toys R' Us.

I also miss exploring my city on foot. Running through peoples backyards, not raising any eyebrows.

It was a good childhood.

Two toys I'll throw out there:

Top Spinners or something similar to that. Spin Fighters...? They were tops with edges that you'd torque up in a little machine and then drop into a battle arena, the one that got knocked out lost. I had forgotten about these for about 25 years until my nephew wanted this very similar toy for Christmas, which was the same concept except it had like a ratchet gun for firing them and all of the tops had anime characters and a story behind them.

Another one was like ... Ninja Warriors or something. Basically these plastic ninja figurines that clicked into this spinning pedestal and you put the pedastal on a table and battled a friend. The ninja figures had these like ... Spring loaded plates on their chests, and free flailing arms and legs and the goal was to hit the plate of your opponent which would cause the ninja to spring off of the pedastal.

Pretty sick toys. Forgotten

People on the internet and social media literialy bombard you with 90s nostalgia on a daily basis, so nothing really. I actually wish people would shut the fuck about it more often

Tab Clear. It's coke, but it's clear! Living in the future now lads!

Porn in the woods. Who put it there? Thank God they did because we didn't have the Googles to go searching for grot. It was wood filth or the lingerie section of the Kay's catalogue.

I... uh... um... I remember this from my childhood and yet I don't have a single clue what this show is about. Nor do I remember any episodes.

A dog who day dreams about being the main character from classic stories. I'm a teacher and I occasionally show my kids episodes of it if we have indoor recess due to rain, it's a pretty neat way to introduce young kids to the classics.

And that was me depositing all the porn - you're welcome

I just bought a gameboy color and a few games on eBay. Going to mod the screen with a new IPS panel and play the hell out of Pokemon pinball and some other classics

I miss games coming with super detailed instruction manuals full of lore and other game tidbits.

When I was a kid, I'd love the car ride home reading all about the game. As an adult, it was great bathroom material.

But either way, it enhanced my game enjoyment. A PDF on the disc sucks.

me and my stoner mates used to hang out on the minramp in the village - they could skate and I couldn't.

I'll never forget the time they dared me to drop in and I did and was lucky to make it out alive

Yeah the day I quit was when I absolutely bodied myself on the 4th or 5th drop in I tried on the larger bowl at my local park.

Hurts a lot more now that I'm 24 (I know that's a ridiculous thing to say still lmao) but I'm enjoying it a lot more.

There used to be a news show aimed at kids called Not Just News that no one seems to remember outside of me and a bunch of people who uploaded clips to YouTube.

this is a wonderful point and completely agree about the car ride home

for me it was the train ride from london back to the home town, studying the precious new manual. I have vivid memories of genesis games (decap attach and jingle strike specifically) of doing exactly that

Edit: Decap attack. Jungle Strike. But I think we can all agree that Jingle Strike is a rhythm game you would all buy.

Googling now it was apparently toys based on a manga. I had no idea what manga was at that age/time.

I did have the ring though. Didn't take me long to realize the thickest always won. At least in the waist or wherever you snapped them in.

I wasn't a '90s kid. I was a young adult trying to make my way in an indifferent world, much like my peers on Melrose Place, so here's some shit for you:
  • Scamming Columbia House records. So many free CDs.
  • Marlboro Menthol Lights. I miss smoking. I miss collecting Marlboro points to get crap from Marlboro's catalog. It's a disgusting and deadly habit, and smoking's bad for you too, but I miss it.
  • Poor network security practices. If you had just a bit of computer and networking knowledge, you might as well have been a wizard
  • Being a webmaster. Coding HTML in notepad. Making money as an individual designing websites. If you knew a little bit of HTML, you could make a lot of money designing basic-ass websites for people and businesses.
  • Picking up girls by doing a halfway decent Beavis & Butthead impression
  • Picking up girls by doing a poor, but earnest, Eddie Vedder impression
  • RASSM
  • Lighting cigarettes with a zippo in one movement.
  • Beating Edelbrock dorks with a well-tuned Holly carb
  • Getting an HIV test
  • Royal Milk Tea / Georgia & Boss Coffees
  • Being in peak physical fitness
  • Gaspanic 16
  • Getting HIV tested
Many more things.

Ford Aerostars.
Lee Pipes jeans.
Hey Dude on Nickelodeon.
Trading pogs on the playground for Warheads candy.
Riding my bike up to the store to buy a $6 booster pack of Gen1 Pokemon cards.

menthols - yes

zippo - I would do the trick where you pinch it to flip open the lid, then flick it to light it with your other hand

picking up girls - I'm sorry I don't know what you're talking about
