Congrats to John on his engagement! Not sure if this was talked about before but I just noticed the shift from girlfriend to fiancée when talking about his SO

I would probably have noticed it regardless but yeah man every girl in the FFVII Remake is doing the fucking cutesy idol shit poses and it really annoys me. It just seems to be a larger issue though since there's tonnes of voiceless grunting that would be deeply meaningful in Japanese but just sounds dumb and awkard in English, especially at this fidelity. I actually super like the English VA though, it's just totally at odds with the way they're acting (Tifa is frankly ridiculous at this, she can't stand still without doing some teehee pose or whatever)

Thank you! Was Mark's audio bad in the most recent ep? It sounded better during recording at least!
To me he sounded like he was using a bad mic? I don't know anything really about audio.
You & Graham sounded much better.
Tina's audio too, didn't sound quite as "crisp", but it seemed less of an issue than Mark's.

Not a big deal at all, it was a great episode.

Mark sounds really bad... like he's using a really shitty headset mic that isn't set up properly.

Can't wait to hear their thoughts on paper Mario.

Oh wait, Nintendo news ALWAYS comes out like 30 seconds after they record ahhhhh

I totally hear Roy's joycon stick drift woes. Mines started drifting recently so I had to switch to dock. I've been debating whether or not to do DIY work and fix it myself while I try the alcohol method as a temporary fix. In the event my Pro Controller inevitably goes to shit, I have 2 PS4 controllers to sacrifice with the 8Bitdo adapter.

On the topic of squats/working out sans a gym, I've been doing tons of squats between watching Yakuza 5 cutscenes and it's gotten me wicked sore. But I definitely miss getting out of the apartment to work out at my local Planet Fitness. Every time I walk by it, I cry inside a bit.

Mark's audio quality sounds much better thanks to Graeme pitching in. It sounds a tad muffled at times but it's nothing that's distracting. I'll chalk it up to the digital distortion. And the audio engineer is a godsend so kudos to him.

I'm looking forward to hearing Xenoblade impressions since I got to the end of the Wii version before my launch Wii got messed up. With TGS canned, I guess this means we won't be getting their yearly star studded TGS episode.

My joycon drifting is really shit because it's super inconsistent. There was a hot month it was so bad I actually called NIntendo helpline and got them to send me a postage bag, but I never ended up sending it in because it 'fixed itself' after a week. Then nothing. Then after about a month of Animal Crossing it got a little shitty again, but since we're in isolation I figured it wasn't worth the effort to send it in at this point.

I was surprised to hear some members of the cast expect that saves will carry over into the Final Fantasy VII Remake part 2.

I think there's less than zero chance of that happening, and despite it being a continuation of the story, it should be for all practical reasons considered a sequel to the initial Remake, with no continuations of stats or inventory. Given that they made a chunk of the original into a full game, I think we can expect the followups to be more like sequels anyway.

Like with X-2, XIII-2/Lightning Returns, and to a different degree Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, each followup game has it's own arc of progression, rather than continuing one consistent one. It'll be "Final Fantasy VII Remake 2" or "VII-2" or maybe a subtitle.

All of the other games with save imports that were listed In the episode have done skill/inventory resets across the board, and only import the saves for story choice decisions reasons, which FFVII Remake doesn't really do.

The most I'd expect would be some cosmestic rewards for playing and/or 100-percenting the first or maybe some bonuses. I can't imagine you'd be hopping into the next one at level 50.

I was surprised that so many members of the cast expect that saves will carry over into the Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 2. Agree - they'll probably start the characters off from scratch again. There might be some bonuses or extras for those with existing saves, but I doubt it'll be a direct continuation.

I think the EVO Online news is crazier than they realised.
The only games with actual open tournaments are: Mortal Kombat X, Killer Instinct, Them's Fighting Herds (a My Little Pony fighting game) and Skullgirls. None of those were part of the original line-up.

They basically said "all other current fighting games suck online and are no good for tournaments", so Tekken, Street Fighter etc will be featured, but they only get "special exhibitions and content".

Stickin' Around definitely made it to the States in the late 1990s on Fox Kids Saturday mornings. It only lasted 3 months before being canceled whereas the original Canadian show lasted 3 seasons. I watched it during a syndicated afternoon block called Fox Kids Summer Blast though, unaware of the original Saturday Morning schedule.

Within the first minute into the podcast, Mark gleefully points out that his audio quality leveled up. 😆 And Dermot triumphantly returned in the FF7R spoiler discussion with equally good audio and no delay (!!). Then Gabe spoke for more than a few minutes and he's quite eloquent. Talk about a series of firsts. I don't care about spoilers and I'll eventually check out FF7R on sale but the spoiler cast was fun to listen to because I wanted more.

But I digress, it was another fantastic episode. I loved the Unlimited Saga EGM review callback. I had no idea what Graeme looked like until that picture. He looks very Canadian and I mean that in a good way. Anyway, it's incredible to see how much the audio improved from its original at home episodes well over a month ago to what it is now. It should be smooth sailing from here. Gabe is a welcome addition as the audio engineer so kudos.

I have two minor quibbles:

1. Mark if you're lurking, Schreier is pronounced Sh-Rye-Er, not Schreer like sheer.
2. Reset Era is Reset [pause] Era, not Ruhsetra.

As someone who has a name that gets mispronounced all the time (my username is the phonetization of it), I don't mind since I find it hilarious. Otherwise, keep on trucking 8-4 Play crew. You guys are doing great.

www.resetera.com

After almost 2 years, we finally know how "ResetEra" is pronounced

For those that can't view the tweet: “Hi, I’m Cerium. I run ‘that one big gaming forum’ and I’m here to tell you that it is pronounced REH-SET-EH-RAH.” (like etcetera) Team REE-SET EE-RAH FUCKING LOST
It sounds so dry though. I get why it's said that way (it's one word) but as a grammar person, it drives me nuts. It sounds like the name of a drug lol. It's a hill I'm willing to die on. It's like the GIF vs JIF debate. The creator may say it's JIF but I think the hard G sounds better.

I'm only on chapter 11 so I'm going to save the spoilercast until I'm done with ff7r. As Mark said, parenthood in the time of coronavirus leaves very little free time.

Finished the episode - nice! More things going on in Kyoto, that reminds me of chat about Kyoto from a year or so ago; I guess 8-4 has a Nintendo gig coming up/to be announced very soon?

I went back to see if ep.167 actually had any chu-hai chat but I guess it didn't, unless I skipped over it? I remember talk about 8/9 months ago about it though. Remember discussion of a review system, I have my own, would love to share it here one day.

Kind of like a White Claw that has an artificial sweetener. It's close to double the alcohol content of a White Claw, but the sweetener kind of cancels out a lot of that flavor. The sweetener also makes it taste a little smoother?
No idea what White Claw is, don't think we get it in the UK. Is it like an alcoholic soft drink or something?

Rice Wine on Brewer Street has some kinds of chu-hai, as do the Longdan shops in Shoreditch/Old Stret which stock Shikuwasa and Yuzu flavoured chu-hais. Sadly, the way that Hyoketsu and some of the other chu-hais are made make it too expensive to import into the UK to sell so you're only going to find the cheaper versions that aren't 100% the real deal IMO.

It's an unsweetened alcoholic seltzer water that's around 5% alcohol and flavored with different types of fruit. The only calories come from the alcohol so it doesn't have much flavor. Strongs have a bit more flavor.

I'm not sure if it would work on Roy's Switch Lite (I don't see why it wouldn't), but I just used WD-40 Specialist Electrical Contact Cleaner on my joycons and it completely fixed the drift problem. I got it at Home Depot for $7, sprayed it at the base of the analog stick while turning the stick with my thumb. I let the joycon rest on its face for about 30 minutes to let it dry, plugged it in, and BOOM: no drift. Did it for two joycons and both are working perfectly now.

Great show, guys! I'm about 2/3s through FF7, so waiting until I finish to listen to the spoiler discussion.

Thanks for the tip! I sent mine into Nintendo last year when they started to drift, but I've heard the problem returns. Will keep this in mind.

Apparently this it's probably a temporary fix and I'll have to repeat this process. I'm just glad it works for now.

Yeah, almost everybody says the drift returns after a while, but it still seems like a good way to keep using your switch until Nintendo fully ramps the repair process back up.

Yesterday I played the Bravely Default II demo, and Elvis said "Phew! You saved my bacon there" upon healing him in battle...

Guys, are you working on it? I know, I know, NDA and stuff. We'll find out on release ;-)
