Do they check joycons when you trade them in? Mine are launch day, and I'm thinking of swapping them out for a new pair. I think the left one's starting to act up.

They looked over mine to make sure it had no obvious damage but they didn't have a switch to test it on. Which is weird. You should be good.

I'm dying for more storage on my series X, but I'm hoping for a sale/more expansion card options announced this holiday.

about to go trade in more games but slightly off topic here, is this pro member program like secretly really good? $5/month certificate and it pays for itself the after 3 months. points earned for purchases that lead to more certificates. i just checked my gs account and i have $30 combined in in-store/online certificates. i rarely deal with gs, and its usually only during times like this (good trade in values) and typically only at the beginning of a new console gen when im trading in last gen stuff.

or do i just stick to walmart's $10 off new releases?

Gamestop does price matching so you can just price match to wal-mart.

I used to loathe GameStop (and their endless shilling of Pro membership) until I realized that it actually is a good deal.

As you pointed out, it already pays for itself through the monthly coupons alone. The absolute bare minimum you can do with a Pro membership is just like buy $5 Eshop credit (I think Xbox also has $5 codes?) every month, so that's $60 worth of credit for the cost of $15 a year

And if you actually regularly go (or start going) to GameStop, it gets a lot better, since buying and trading in games gives you more trade credit/points to work with. And if you're the kind of person that trades in games a lot, the extra credit you get from GameStop as a Pro member quickly adds up. On top of that, GameStop finally now gives a damn about price matching, so like Deader2818 said Walmart's $10 off new releases can be price matched, as well as other stores.

Right now actually is a good time to get the membership, they're currently offering 10,000 points if you become, which is worth a $10 certificate, so you're more or less paying $5 to become a Pro member.

If I'm reading this right, are you saying your points were already turned into certificates? If so, I would strongly suggest you go to account settings or whatever on your account and change your point accumulation to "Stockpile". That way you can redeem points for certificates at your leisure, instead of stressing out about using them before they expire.

Seconding this. I was kind of shocked when I revisited the Pro membership stuff the other day and discovered it's actually not terrible now? Also its relatively easy to get your $15 a year out of it.

i just checked this on my settings and its already set to stockpile. i still have to click on redeem i guess to use them, still havent tried. also noticed when looking for a headset that GS offers same day delivery for some items for pro members. looks like ill be riding this pro member thing for a while. anyway, traded in the following

Diablo 3 switch $40
Bomberman R $16
Arms $32
Lets go Pikachu $40
AC: New Horizon $40

$168 total. paid off metroid dread, bought ratchet ps5, and got a hello kitty mug for the wife.

Yea, though according to the website that ends after the 24th

Yea the old pro membership I probably wouldn't have gone for it, but it was an easy choice with the new system. Also helped that when I signed up, I didn't actually have to pay anything due to my points I saved up, then it just kept on rolling from there

Traded in some more stuff over the past few days, and I just gotta say how pleasant each experience was. I could think of a dozen personal horrible experiences I had with GameStop over the years, but at least my local store and even the main customer service phone line was truly exceptional this week.

Traded my One X, PSVR, neon joycons from my launch Switch (which I replaced with the Skyward Sword version after price matching Walmart, as others have done in this thread too), and a bunch of games I'm ready to convert to digital. Fast, friendly and totally painless. Got an absurd amount of points for this too.

I feel like I've been missing out with the new Pro membership benefits, this is a no-brainer deal even without this crazy good promotion. As long as they keep the monthly certificate I'm likely to be an ongoing subscriber.

Is the GameStop website down?

Site/app have been down for me for the last two days, says access denied. Works when I'm out and about, so idk if I got IP blocked somehow. Called customer service this morning and apparently they've been getting calls about it, they think it's an outage somewhere and will get back to me. Also helped me with my missing welcome certificate by adding more points to my account.

Hey, is the Retro Gaming section of the GameStop site messed up for anyone? I've been looking at prices the past day or two and now they have nothing listed. Fingers crossed that it's a big restock or something.

Traded in my Xbox one X, 2 extra controllers, Kinect, and 10 games. Felt like I Came out a bandit at $489 and change. Now whenever they get their bundles up I can preorder a ps5.

Do I just grab a $5 card off the rack or do I ask the clerk for a $5 digital gift card? Reddit seems to have conflicting reports. Thanks
I usually just grab one off the rack. I've done Xbox psn and eshop. I've had them print eshop before when they had no card so I assume they can for xbox
I just go on every month and get a digital card and leave haha best $15 a year

Damn, I wish my local store had $5 cards on the rack. :( On the plus side, my store also actively promotes spending the $5 monthly certificate on the printable $5 eShop code so that's nice. They said I can *only* get $5 eShop credit printed out and no other credit though.

So then, I get 5k points a month with Pro, and can just keep stockpiling that? Or is some stuff gonna expire?

Will GameStop care if my PS4 Pro sounds like a hair dryer in the middle of games? I also put in a refurbished 1TB hdd but it works fine. Sadly the drive cover is broken so I have it taped on with clear tape lol. Will they dock me a lot of money for any of this? I can order a drive cover on the cheap online

Got $40 for that PS4 controller. Cashed in on my $5 coupon and ended up getting paid $2.79 in store credit to come home with Monster Hunter Rise.

The cover maybe. They won't run it long enough to discover the fan issue though

you can definitely get $5 xbox credit, I've done it for over 2 years. There is no $5 psn credit, the minimum is $10, but the coupon also works on that. As well as $20 steam (I think $20 is minimum steam but not sure).

Stores are weird policy wise, some push Nintendo hard, some push Sony hard, etc. If they are willing to try register xbox codes will work, but I've found many times if you KNOW something works they will push back hard against what they have always been told, and its hard getting them to even try. Fortunately around here gamestop can't retain employees since the pay is worse than fast food, so every few weeks I notice new employees and most don't really know or care.

Traded in a PS4 Pro with a defective disc drive (-55) and 25 games. Probably not the best value for the games but whatever, I'm not going to put in more effort to get rid of them. Made out close to 600. Good times.

I think for Xbox, they don't have $5 codes you can just grab? They should be able to print it out on a receipt for you though

I didn't see cards that went below $10 in my store, but the employee could do a digital card printed on a receipt.
That's crazy! I figured they'd really limit what you could get. Damn, if I find a way to be able to get Xbox credit I'll reup my sub every year. Hopefully my store comes through for me tomorrow.
