Rather disappointed but not surprised by the dehumanising language used about the man. Clearly, his actions are fucking horrible and he needs to be accountable to them. But I've seen too many people who this forum would gladly label monsters who were the products of horrible life circumstances outside their own control, and unnoticed by the system until it was far too late

Not really, as those issues are much more specific to the US.
Racism is a much bigger issue than most Australians care to admit, but racism in general, and this kind of attack specifically, aren't "Australian" issues.
An Australian going into any thread about racist violence in America and posting "America eh? You guys really need to get your shit together and stop with this racist bullshit" wouldn't be well received because it's entirely unhelpful bullshit that's needlessly adversarial.
What in the holy fuck is this.Rather disappointed but not surprised by the dehumanising language used about the man. Clearly, his actions are fucking horrible and he needs to be accountable to them. I've lived in Australia for half a decade (pre and post 9/11) and I don't agree at all.
Islamophobia and racism (not just to brown folks, but Asians as well) has always been a thing there, and I feel like it's only gotten worse. After everything that's happened in the past year it's time to start taking this seriously.
American here, disagree. If you tell me my country has a racism or gun violence problem and that we need to get our shit together, I'm going to agree with you because that's objective reality.
Conversely a European coming into a thread about racism and claiming it's a uniquely American problem would piss me off because that's NOT objective reality.
He made this choice on his own. Plenty of people can come out of shitty circumstances in their lives without, y'know, beating a pregnant woman on the ground. Can they come out troubled? Certainly. Broken? Possibly. But there's a big fucking step before you hit the line this motherfucker crossed.Quite concerned about the mother and child. It's good to know physical harm was minimised to an extent by the actions of her friends and community members, but the mental stress for herself and her child would be significant. Similarly being a victim of racism and feeling unsafe in your own community is a horrible feeling.
Also concerned about the unborn baby. There's obvious fears on whether the baby suffered injuries in the womb, but other factors, such as high stress in the mother can contribute to developmental complications. Really hope her healthcare professionals continue to monitor the situation closely

Watched it just to see the asshole get knocked down with a chair.
FromWhat is the point in posting about this, is it just outrage porn?
If you want to fix the world, you need to see how bad it is. There's an entire running topic on this board about incidents of bigoted harassment and police brutality against black people that's still going because those stories need to be spread lest they be buried and ignored for people to claim that racism is over. It's not porn because it isn't indulgent. I don't know who gets off on seeing shit like this but it isn't me. It's real life that is worth being outraged and righteously indignant about. It should make people angry that this goes on anywhere in the world. And the world is in the state it's in to start with because of how much ignorance and apathy people have displayed towards incidents like this globally and historically. What is the point in posting about this, is it just outrage porn?
Im Australian. We really do need to get our shit together and stop with this racist bullshit.I believe Middleman was more taking issue with how it was said. "Australia eh? You guys really need to get your shit together and stop with this racist bullshit." is not equivalent to "you need to be better".
So what does that mean?

Do Not Create: Shock Threads
These are threads about news or content that is just disgusting and/or shocking, with little potential for discussion other than outrage. Nobody gains anything from these threads and you should not make them.
We have regular threads about trashbags having racist outbursts, kinda sounds to me you're mad there's bad news about your country 🤷♀️So what does that mean?
It doesn't matter what country it occurred in.
This is a discussion forum but all everybody is doing is circlejerking about how much of an arsehole this guy is. Does this lead to better discussion on resetera? Or does it lead to more toxicity?

Ok, later I will watch it for this. I hope it's one of those heavy wooden chairs.Watched it just to see the asshole get knocked down with a chair.
Yeah, I know. But the phrase is not exclusive for death news, but also tragedy in general.Thankfully she's still alive, at least. I worry about the baby, though.

Ah, right. I guess I've just used it exclusively regarding death myself.Yeah, I know. But the phrase is not exclusive for death news, but also tragedy in general.

I personally think there is merit to highlighting & discussing hate crimes in our country, and not treating it as a *shrug not much we can do about it*So what does that mean?
It doesn't matter what country it occurred in.

technically australia is the biggest island there is🙃If only we could take all white supremacists, IS terrorists,... and put them all together on a big island so they could wipe each other out.
OT : This was a horrible action from that man.
Toxicity against racism? HmmmmmmmmSo what does that mean?
It doesn't matter what country it occurred in.
