Has the original Pokemon anime show ever been subbed before? I always wanted to watch their version of the show.

It was actually the Pokémon anime that got me into the franchise, specifically the vhs tape with the island of giant Pokémon in it. I've watched every episode now since.

I do kinda miss seeing premieres on live tv. I'm would always go to my grandmothers each weekend to catch the new episodes and would get really hyped for the movies.

I can still remember my TV breaking during the episode in Johto where Team Rocket was stealing the bells from Tin Tower.

No its likely because they don't want to pay more license fees. The US Dub swaps music out im assuming its because they don't want to pay extra for them. Which I don't understand I guess the American division of Pokemon would be paying the Japanese Division of Pokemon I don't know how it would work or why. Pretty much cuts out almost all the anime versions of the game songs for generic royalty free sounding music. They didn't use to do this its been this way for the past 5-10 years or so that I noticed around when Ash's VA was changed to his recent one I wanna say but might be after that even. Its really dumb because it would just promote the Pokemon brand music more. The anime versions of the game songs are awesome they have released some OSTs for the anime that have them. Some of the dub may be censored/dialogue changed a bit too not sure how much they alter the dub version of the show I think they know how global it is now so they stay away from problematic stuff now.

I feel so fucking old lmao
I was a bit to young for the kanto season but I got right into it when Johto started. One of the few anime, alongside naruto and Yugioh, that I would watch on a daily basis in both french and english. To this day, the pokemon anime still has some of the best anime opening ever especially the entire johto season. I really loved the pokemon marathon twitch did a few years ago and I would love it if they were to do another one.

Anime "saga" rankings:

Kalos > Sinnoh > Hoenn > Kanto > Alola > Johto > Unova

Jury's still out on Journeys (Galar doesn't have a dedicated thing like the rest, but it features somewhat prominently). But I seem to like it more than most. Might slot it around Hoenn by the end? We'll see.

I'm also aware I like Alola less than most. That cast mostly sucked IMO, the slice-of-life thing fell flat as a result.

I still watch and enjoy the series, but I watch fansubs over the dub now because the dub makes some really weird choices with music and other stuff that just makes it worse imo.

Alola>Journeys>Kalos>Sinnoh>Kanto>Johto>Hoenn>Unova for my rankings.

Im honestly surprised that Pokemon blew up to the mega franchise it is today. I was getting in to anime around that time with my friend bringing me DBZ on VHS and then I discovered Evangelion after that.

I was kinda excited to see Pokemon as it was the first anime on network tv but after watching some episodes, it felt too childish for me as I was a teen and looking for more DBZ type of action.

What's amusing is that I first watched the anime on vacation in a hotel, one of the local channels had it on really early in the morning.

Had no idea what it was either, was such a trip to watch.

TPCi retained most or all of the Japanese music for the post-4Kids! days of the dub for several years. As far as I know, they only started creating new tracks when the company that handled ownership of the Japanese music raised the prices. This only affected the show for a time as the movies retained the Japanese score until around 2015 I believe, but then they went back at some point and I don't know what happened from there.

Anyways, happy belated 25th birthday to one of my childhood favorites. I do need to catch up with Journeys. It was easier to watch this show when I had cable and it aired weekly to give me a comfortable rhythm.

I was 6yrs old and I remember collecting cards from the start. To this day I have nightmares of the original Charizard card I got and immediately put into a sleeve. My pride and joy. I fucking lost it and now that card is worth thousands depending on condition. I also had a notebook of rare original holographic cards worth thousands in total that I lost track of.

I punch myself everytime I think of it. Gonna do it right now after I hit enter.
