Hello and welcome to the OT for the 135th edition of The Championships at Wimbledon! Beginning serve on the 27th of June and ending on the 10th of July, the world's most prestigious grass tournament is back. Lots to talk about here, such as the fact that, because the tournament has banned Russian and Belarusian players, the ATP and WTA has stripped the tournament of any ranking points. Also, there will be matches scheduled for the middle Sunday, so that's another new change.

Ready for the draws? Because here they are, starting with the gentlemen's draw...

And here is the draw for the ladies'...

Will I be using threadmarks to mark the start of each day of action, as always? Absolutely!

I thought Nadal had bowed out in solidarity with the Russians.

That is a fucking disgrace btw. This isn't hurting Putin. It's just making this tournament suck.

Yeah I would understand it in team sports, but individual athletes? Also if those tennis players spoken about being pro russian invasion, otherwise let them play.

Is there a list of players who are not in this tournament because of the ban?

Customary fuck Novax.

And yeah, Wimbledon looks pretty dumb being not just the only GS to do this, but the only tournament in general (right?).

Is there a list of players who are not in this tournament because of the ban?
Not sure if this Sun article is complete, but they have:

Medvedev
Rublev
Karatsev
Khachanov

Sabalenka
Azarenka
Pavlyuchenkova
Kasatkina
Samsonova
Kudermetova

The West is inflicting all sorts of sanctions on Russia causing massive economic turmoil. The effects of these sanctions are not necessarily 'fair', but they are a means to try to limit or even bring an end to Putin's insane regime. Banning sports people and teams from tournaments is hardly out of step with this. Excluding Russia from the international community sends a clear message that their invasion will never be tolerated.

Djokovic is disgustingly good on grass. Hard to see past him. Would love to see him get wrecked by some grass court specialist but i doubt it.

I guess if it were a concerted effort among the Grand Slams and ATP/WTA, but Wimbledon is the only GS and tournament in general (afaik) doing this. In that sense, it seems to be both pointless and not a good look.

They can already do this by making them renounce their "team", and give no money to the home country.

Doesn't it send a better message that WE own Daniil Medvedev (God I can believe I just said that), than he belongs to THEM?

If not, when does he get to play Wimbledon again? When Russia leaves Ukraine? When all of its people are dead? When they've surrendered? Never?

Happy to see Nadal giving it a try. Hope Querrey doesn't upset him.

You mean out of solidarity? Doubt there are any?

No, just the list people already made. For some reason my phone sends me all these clickbait articles and one of them was Nadal not playing due to the Russia ban.

Pray that Felix steps up and has a perfect tournament.

He plays a tricky serve and volley opponent in the first round who just played the finals at Eastbourne. If he gets past his first match, I can see FAA making a deep run.

Iga v. the field? I'm taking the field this time. For some reason my gut feeling is Halep will take the title. Novaxx will probably win on the mens side

It was just an exhibition match, but he went down 6-2, 6-1 to Djokovic the other day. He did beat Nadal though (and made it to the QF last year).

Iunno, Djokovic could be blitzed by a big server having a perfect day like anyone else on grass, but it's unlikely. I think winning this would also push his Wimbledon winrate over Federer Actually, he already has this (88.76% vs 88.24% for anyone curious - both absolutely absurd numbers).

Glad to see Nadal playing, wasn't sure he was going to, obviously love that Serena is playing but a shame Naomi isn't. Cool that Swiatek is the number one seed but other than winning junior Wimbledon not sure what results she's had on grass or faster surfaces in general (especially with that extreme western forehand grip). Would love to see Raducanu make a deep run but i think even her first round will be tough against the Belgian Van Uytvanck, who is tough on fast surfaces. Some former champs (Muguruza, Kvitova, Halep, Kerber and Serena of course) and players that are playing great on grass going in (Garcia, Ostapenko, Cornet, and my favorite, Bibi Andreescu) should make this a very interesting women's tournament. I say that, and then Swiatek wins the entire thing without dropping a set.

Hopefully the Djokovic match goes short or long, I don't want to be travelling from work when Raducanu is on!

Centre Court feeling super slow. Very strange.

Also, ADF goes up two sets on Hurkacz. That bit of the draw is wide open for the winner.

Wimbledon already kicking off with a rain delay! At least middle Sunday is already guaranteed, so organizers won't feel excess pressure to squeeze matches in

Good win for Djokovic.

Of course he wraps it up just before I leave work.. so I'll be commuting during Raducanu's match. Sigh.

Glad Gilbert mentioned that this trouble for Novax is SELF-INFLICTED.

Hate it when commentators act like the idiot is overcoming adversity.

Murray winning at Wimbledon once again.
Raducanu rolling back the year.

You love to see it.
