Interesting that a quarter of Chinese voters are undecided.

The Chinese side of my family is all in on Biden but my family's pretty much all generic Democrat voters so not terribly surprising.

Man, socialism needs a rebranding.

I feel also like people could do a better job of assuaging peoples fears (regardless of whether they are founded or not), but that may just be me ignorant on that subject.

Surprising to see that many Chinese undecided. Trump flat out hates them. I mean he hates everyone, but he flatout caused a huge amount of racism to them at the start of the pandemic.

parents are planning to vote for the first time ever this fall. Its more likely the undecided arent planning to vote anyway. Most care about chinese and hong kong politics than anything here, least thats true of my parents and extended family

Unfortunately my FIL is digging in his heels and is claiming that anyone who supports Taiwan needs to vote for Trump. He hung up on hubby last time they talked on the phone over it.
Yeah older Vietnamese folks heavily lean Republican.
Many gen X/older millennials in the active community around Austin seem to lean R as well.

My dad is a hardcore Trump supporter because he supposedly doesn't take any shit from North Korea and stands up to Kim Jong-Un, lol. Fortunately my mom will vote for Biden.

The problem is people put everything on a single linear spectrum when that doesn't work. People associate the "economic left" with authoritarianism when in the US, the GOP is the "economic right" and authoritarian, while the Dems lean more "economic left" and more libertarian. Which is kind of funny since most so-called libertarians associate with the more authoritarian GOP.

Most Vietnamese families (who am I kidding) all Vietnamese families I know voting for R.
There will be more if Trump creams the words "communist", "socialist" loud enough.
I imagine Cubans are the same.

Not surprised Filipinos are second highest. Got my mom and a few relatives as proper examples of your typical Trump supporter. Also Duterte supporters so go figure.

As for why the Vietnamese americans favor trump more ?
I think it's more than just Republican (Nixon ended the war after all) - they were just right wingers.
Not everyone, but America's allies in Vietnam war were by and large right wingers. America's allies are pretty much always right wingers.

Well my people aren't big enough to be listed by ourselves so we're shoved in with the rest of the Asian Americans. And I'm kind of bummed that that makes us 5th by default lol. At least it's still a clear majority for Biden.

That Vietnamese number is a shocker though. I had no idea they or any Asian American group leaned that heavily conservative.

Many of them are older, first generation, 'bootstrap' folks. Also communism.

As a Vietnamese American this shit just drive me crazy. Luckily my families and friends are voting for Biden.

They are trump for several reasons.
1. Old/middle age Vietnamese tend to be ignorant of politics and think Trump is good for business.
2. The well off ones, especially business owners have this got mine fuck you mentality.
3. They tend to be conservatives and superstitious so yeah.

Genuinely shocked Indians are most pro Biden

Representation on the ticket is a big deal, but the amount of green card and work visa fuckery that Stephen Miller has been driving through the admin is absolutely outrageous.

Legit years/decades for people who have made their home in every functional way to get permanent residence in the US.

Everyone in my family leans left. In-laws are a different story, though, but I try very hard to avoid talking about politics with them. They like Trump because they idolize businessmen.

The thing is, as an Asian American, I feel like while Biden and Democrats are clearly better on several issues, they aren't actually better for things that pertain to Asians specifically. For example, look at Biden's ad blaming China for coronavirus.

No surprise here. Vietnamese Americans are more conservative, there's also the whole American War rhetoric. Communist bad. My mom is a rare one on hating Trump, but she goes off about how her boss talks about Trump all the time. Kind of proud of her when she tells her off when Trump fucks up.

A lot of chinese people here, esp the ones that have naturalized, really detest the chinese government, so trump fucking with them is good in their eyes. I mean, I somewhat enjoy it too, but I think they don't see that the republicans would like our government to be more like the CCP which they hate.

For those of you surprised about the Indian American numbers - Indian Americans have consistently been one of the most Dem-leaning groups for a while now.

My mother is pro-CCP but Trump's good for the economy and taxes so she would vote for him if it weren't for me pushing her on Republican lies.

Republican rhetoric on the economy is so goddamn strong.

Yep, my wife's Vietnamese and a lot of her relatives are pro-Trump. Her parents (both immigrants) have been walked off the cliff with reminders of how pure evil the GOP is and how Trump doesn't give a shit about them. And thankfully we're in California, so the votes of her other relatives aren't gonna matter anyway.

Yes. All of my aunts and uncles and my parents are Trump supporters. It's horrible. They just parrot empty Republican platitudes like "China bad, immigrants bad, abortion bad, communism bad" And the ever-present "Republicans are pro-business." I fear with more and more of them discovering Facebook, they will be influenced even more by right-wing propaganda. My father literally said, "If Biden wins, you might as well learn to speak Chinese." Like WTF Dad.

Eh, I wouldn't call them idiots. China has been awfully overreaching in their nonsense over there. That and they don't really report on whats going on overseas with Trump, just that he's doing to China. My GF(who's over there), had no idea until I told her about what he does domestically in the US.

Ya'll should be more alarmed. Trump has made gains with every single polled Asian demographic since 2016.

Compare the data to that of around the same time four years ago (page 18).

Indian Americans: 70%/7% -> 65%/28%
Japanese: 53%/22% -> 61%/24%
Koreans: 73%/12% -> 57%/26%
Chinese: 53%/12% -> 56%/20%
Filipino: 57%/27% -> 52%/34%
Vietnamese: 46%/20% -> 36%/48%
I think like Latinos, the undecideds shy Trump Voters prob are more straight forward this go around too. But with both groups, neither are monolithic.

Yeah maybe you're right but still I really cant stand people support Trump. One of stupid things I have to hear from most Trump supporter in VN is "He is rich so he wont be corrupted"... like wtf?

Might have to do with Trump's actions/statements against China. Vietnam and China are having quarrels around the South China Sea.

Big reason why my parents are Trump supporters. In general though they're not very well versed in politics but what they do watch is local Vietnamese news stuff and I have no doubt it's creating a feedback loop for them.

Disappointing, I try and push back as best as I can but I could probably do more. They don't tend to vote at all.

A lot of vietnamese people support for Trump come from the fuck you got mine attitude. Don't contribute it to them not knowing what's socialism vs communism, they know quite well, they just don't give a fuck. A good majority of influential people in the Viet communities are business owners too, they love tax cut/loop holes.

This seems bad. Why is the Biden campaign struggling with Asian (and Latino) voters compared to Hillary in 2016?
