It's been a Nintendo thing until now. Super, 64, GB (yep, Game Boy), Wii, U...

Somehow the GC was spared amidst all of the nonsense and the Switch only has like, what, one or two games with "Switch" in the title.
GB was rare, Wii was also more the gimick based games (and mario kart).

It was mostly: is it short and sound clear?
Super, 64, Wii, U, DS

Gamecube was normally not abreviated like the ds, so it was to long. 3DS was more rare since 3DS was not clean.
And with switch... im actually supriced that its not more used, but also happy. Maybe because it would be confusing since it would be expected that it describes the gameplay, while the others would not have that problem.

Well, some japanese releases do have the infamous "for Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch Ver." subtitle.

DS did it best as it was subtle.

Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Bleach: Dark Souls (yes, the DS had dark souls!)
Contra: Dual Spirits
Dig Dug: Digging Strike.
Mr. Driller: Drill Spirits

If the Wikipedia list is anything to ctrl+f with, there were 39 games with it, 2 of which got released outside of Japan using GB in the title anyway. The GBC added at least another 20 or so. Compared to the full game list for the GB itself, yes, it's quite rare, but then so is "Super" and other such titles.

Well, some japanese releases do have the infamous "for Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch Ver." subtitle.

Dammit, I KNEW there were some I just couldn't think of them. It's kind of like the "GB" was used in Japan, they generally dropped it when bringing it over here.

I also loved the Mega Drive/Genesis games that tried to make "Mega" a prefix to some games, like "Super" was on the SNES. Mega Bomberman was the most noteworthy game to do it, but I think there were a handful of others.

Genesis/Mega Drive did have "Super" games (as was common with video games since '70s games like Super Breakout) like Super Thunder Blade, Super Hydlide, Super Shinobi but mostly stopped doing that when it became associated with the Super Nintendo.

Now we need %of GBA games with Advanced in the title, SNES games with Super, PSP games with Portable and DS games with titles or subtitles that abbreviate to DS.

Why should those count? Super Heroes and Super Bowl are their own words and have nothing to do with SNES.

Well, for the Tecmo games there's also Tecmo Super Baseball and Tecmo Super NBA Basketball and the previous game that was released on the NES was just called Tecmo Bowl
I'm not disputing those. But Tecmo Super Bowl is different since it's the game focused on the NFL winning the Super Bowl. Its not just a sequel to Tecmo Bowl with an added Super in it.

Mega Bomberman and Mega Turrican are the ones that always come to mind for me.

Bomberman in particular is pretty unique in that a lot of it's entries have a title clearly indicating its platform (Mega Bomberman = Mega Drive/Genesis, Super Bomberman = SNES, Pocket Bomberman/Bomberman GB = Game Boy, Bomberman 64, Saturn Bomberman, etc.)

Also, now do the math for how many SNES games begins with ''Super''
I actually got bored one day & did this.

It may be a bit inaccurate, but this is based on the book Super Nintendo Anthology, which details all 1,700+ released games in all regions. Also some homebrew/unofficial but I didn't count those.

I counted 193 titles. 1,757 titles were officially released. That's just under 11% of games (10.98% to be more exact)

That's it? For some reason, I thought the percentage would be higher...feels like anything released back then had the 64 name in it haha

I knew someone would have done that lol

That's less than I expected, but not by much

And thanks to your hard work, I really do appreciate it
