Reminder that the NWSL tournament kicks off tomorrow after kicking out Marta's team because she and like 5 other players on the team tested positive.

What is the NBA going to do if someone like Lebron, Kawhi, or Giannis tests positive?

I mean, maybe they already did

Regardless, there should be no American sports happening right now. Its risky, unnecessary and sends the wrong message ... but we all know why its happening, because of massive corporate greed.

Just imagine if a player gets a serious case of it after the season starts and ends up having their career shortened or ended due to lung damage, it's so not worth the risk.

It's comical to think they're pressing for the NFL to have games this year.

I'm a NY Giants season ticket holder and they've already offered full refunds on season tickets while retaining seat licenses for 2021, I was actually impressed. Either they know games aren't going to happen with fans or they are trying to get more seats open to the idiots that would actually go to a game. We were just going to eat the costs and not go.

Oh wow I'm really surprised about that. Figured they wouldn't offer refunds until the NFL officially declares the season dead, or w/e.

They have been a great organization to hold season tickets for. Haven't raised prices since the new stadium opened in 2010 and actually adjusted prices of individual games, with a net zero effect for the whole package, to benefit re-sale value for season ticket holders (based on our feedback). And now this.

Not sure of their true motive, but it's a good gesture to season ticket holders, especially out-of-towners like myself that travel a long way for games.

Not sure if any other teams have made similar offers. I know my friends that have Bills season tickets are still on the hook.

Go to New Zealand. They have basketball courts too. And they even have fans who can sit in the seats at those courts.

can a player sue the league if the virus causes permanent damage to his career?

Probably not. Part of most sports CBAs prevents players from suing the league due to health risks / injuries caused by practicing, playing, etc. Occasionally a suit will come out of a player suing a team or the league over negligent doctors, but it's pretty rare and they're usually settled.

In this case I'm not sure if any of the 16 players who are positive got it "while in the bubble" or from wherever they've been living, practicing, etc.

I'm honestly surprised it's not higher
yeah it's even below the current national rate of 6.4%

The overall percentage of respiratory specimens testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 increased slightly from week 23 (6.1%) to week 24 (6.4%), driven by increases in five regions. National percentages by type of laboratory

And the NBA wants to have the season over in Florida, of all states?

They either need to cancel or have it over in New Zealand.

Yeah, that sounds about right. They expected positive tests (I mean, they already had a bunch test positive around the time of the shutdown) and they're testing early so they can quarantine players and let them recover over the next month.

Tbh I think the only way they shut down again is if a player dies or gets some permanent damage like that Broadway actor who had his leg amputated.

I think some of the teams are hedging their bets on the season being cancelled. Which is the reasonable way of going forward.

If you're going to get a mask for gym I'd recommend one that you can put a filter inside of the mask

Also watch out for people at the gym that where ones with valves. That doesn't protect others and is actually banned in some states right now

the reason for the fabric mask is less about preventing you from getting it, its from preventing you from spreading it if you have it.

The only masks that protect from viruses are N95 masks and the breathing through them is absolute shit.

so something like this

Oh damn, sigh I'll just stick w the n95 mask since I'm not playing a sport at a world class level and don't need top top athletic performance

why the fuck is the season supposed to resume in Florida of all places
Because Disney is an isolated private property inside the state. They can shut off Disney, or portions of Disney, to the public and limit exposure to non bubble personnel to a great degree. It's much harder in an actual city like Vegas where you walk outside and are immediately in casinos.

Beyond that, positive tests are expected at this point. Players aren't magically different than the public. The issue for the NBA is if we see results like this in a couple weeks once the players are in the bubble. It's not just the owners that stand to lose a ton of money if they can't pull off this season, but the players will also take a HUGE financial hit.
