I see this game recommended a lot but I have a questions about what I'm reading in here before I add it to my radar of games to eventually pick up.

These jiggly boobs, up skirt panty shots of high school girls or any of the other pervy stuff. How often is this thrown in front of you?

If it's like out in front of your face all the time then it kills any potential purchase from me.

It's very minimal. Nothing gratuitous. The story is simply incredible.

Coming in the mail from Gamestop as we speak, had it for half off this weekend. Friend raving about it got me interested.

you'd think 13 sentinels is straight up porn reading some posts lol. Danganronpa was wayyyyyyyyy worse and I saw less criticism about that.
Probably because 13 Sentinels has a prevalent serious tone to it that any sexual stuff that even just tries to be light hearted and not provocative comes off as weird. Danganronpa is already so off the wall any sexual stuff doesn't even register. Like I know there are fan service CGs in Danganronpa but I don't recall them really because who cares.

All the characters are nude when in their sentinel and a few are in extremely sexual positions.

There is also a character with comically huge breasts and wearing a skin tight outfit often seen in a very provocative pose.

I'll probably play it at some point, it's just seem a bit too expensive for me right now.

Yeah, I think it's mine as well. The story exceeded my expectations and went places I would have never expected. Also, the art style is absolutely gorgeous.

There's one character with ridiculous proportions in a skin tight outfit, but it's honestly not emphasized as much as you would think. The focus is thankfully on the amazing story.

Yeah, the needless sexualization is probably the low point of the game. But at least it is front loaded, meaning if you can make it through the first hours or so, then I can't recall there being some new horniness that took me out of the story. Basically if you get past the secret agent girl and the cockpit views, there's nothing further to be wary of.

Fantastic game. Even the combat section grew on me, which isn't something I was expecting.
Same. I did end up enjoying the combat, even though I played on Easy because I'm not generally an RTS fan. But I like that a lot of these big Sony games aren't locking platinums behind difficulty levels.

I've played 20 hours. There is one character in particular with "heaving breasts". She isn't one of the main characters, but she will show up a decent amount. None of the other characters are as egregious as she is, other than the shots when they're in the mech, though those aren't super salacious.

I've only seen one panty shot in the game period, and it was blink and you miss it, though perhaps there are more in the stories I haven't dug deeper into.

This. I'll admit that, had a friend not warned me about the opening 1-2hrs, I probably would have fallen off because it's pretty gratuitous. However, it's nowhere near as bad as Dragon's Crown IMO.

it sucks the game performed as badly as it did because i think it would be more popular on Switch than PS4.
Speaking of performing badly, the final missions made my PS4 sound like it was about to launch into space. I think having all these enemies on screen is part of the fantasy they are trying to fulfill, but it's a shame what it does for the prospects of porting it to a handheld.

I took a leap of faith with this one and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The combat looks really simple and chaotic but once it clicks it a ton of fun. I spent hours just replaying the first set of enemy waves alone because it was fun.

If it helps anyone who is reading this. I am enjoying the story quite a bit while not being a big anime fan. I played the zero escape series and I found a lot of it eye roll worthy when it came to story and logic. This so far has a more serious time and nice approach to storytelling. There are of course some crushes and simplistic highschool romance motivations but it's easy to forgive given everything else. As far as visual novels go, this one is broken into bite size pieces introduced out if order so it never fails to grip you with their mystery and surprises. Don't worry about walls of texts. All the scenes are beautifully presented and animated and never overstay their welcome length wise.

I think I'm about 30~40% in so far and can't wait for the heavy surprises and reveals to start hitting.

TL;DR: it's Evangelion minus the unnecessary edge and with an actual coherent plot (so far).

If it isn't on PC, then it doesn't exist to me. :| Glad to see stuff like this still popping up and challenging the "AAA" games, though.

Sony's involvement probably made the game exist in the first place.
There's been a number of interviews about the game and none of them really mention Sony being involved or helping. It was originally PS4 + Vita because...that's just what Japanese devs did, and the Switch wasn't around when they started IIRC, then they cancelled the Vita version and focused solely on PS4

How is the pacing of this game? Looked up on Howlongtobeat that it takes 30-40 hours to beat.

I'm past the prologue and I find this game dull as hell so far. The look and art is amazing but when does it get good?

I've done a few battles and story stuff after the prologue bits but everything is just confusing as hell and the constant time jumping with characters etc just makes it even more confusing. I have no clue what is going on with anyone nor does the game try to engage me as why would I want to find out what happens next when the plot is so convoluted and confusing?

The battles so far have been boring too there's no visual representation of anything.

does the story get better? Because all I'm doing now is seeing cats and people speaking softly to each other but none of it makes sense.
This is the best endorsment I could possibly imagine for this game. Buying it now.

Every thread that is made encouraging people to buy this makes me happier. I hope it continues to see the great word of mouth spread. The game is a masterpiece in literary design. It's not that the story is so great (it's pretty great), but the design of the narrative and how it's told is simply unparalleled in what it sets out to do.

took me about 40 hours and I got the platinum in that time.

Same-ish.

While it hasn't sold huge numbers, the game did celebrate its 1-year Japanese release anniversary with a celebration stream and showcase for new merchandise. So there's a big enough fan base (at least in Japan) for additional revenue streams.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim 1st Anniversary Stream Summary: Seiyuu Comments, Character Popularity Poll, Figures, New Manga, Remix OST Album With New Miyuki Inaba Song

Announcements and everything that happened on the 1st anniversary stream of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, newest masterpiece by Vanillaware.

My hope is that 13 Sentinels remains a cult classic with long legs at $40, especially since it sold out everywhere at $30. That's a very reasonable price for this unique experience IMO.

PENCIL CASE?!

13 Sentinels is Vanillaware's Magnum Opus. I really do not know how they can top this story. More people getting exposed to this amazing game the better.

I loved it! I was really impressed with how endearing each of the characters were, despite such a large cast none of them were tropey or one dimensional in the slightest.

A special mention for the incredible soundtrack as well.

I agree, I'm almost done with the game and it's just incredible. I love everything about it. It sucks that it didn't sell that well but I hope it'll do better overtime with people talking more about it like this thread, it deserves the sales. Also to everyone considering playing it, if you do, pick the dub not the sub, the dub is really good, even if they do one of my pet peeves of using Japanese honorifics
